Teacher suspended for showing high-school students infamous body-parts video

A teacher has been suspended by a Montreal school for showing Grade 10 students the infamous video that shows a killing allegedly committed by Luka Rocco Magnotta.
The teacher showed the students the grotesque scenes on June 4 and was immediately suspended that afternoon — with pay.
Staff at Cavelier-De LaSalle High School in Montreal’s west end say they quickly informed the students that a team of psychologists was available to deal with any problems that might have resulted from watching the video.
“We condemn with one voice the actions of the teacher who showed students a video whose content was as inappropriate as it was offensive,” the school board said in a statement Wednesday.
“The incident is being taken very seriously.”
The teacher had been under contract as a replacement through the end of the year, for a 10th-grade history and citizenship education class.
The teacher apparently apologized to the school by email and is now scheduled to lay out his version of the facts before a labour-relations board Wednesday. A decision is expected by the end of the school year, but could also come during the summer.
Magnotta, a male escort and porn actor originally named Eric Newman, is awaiting extradition from Germany and faces murder charges in the slaying of Chinese exchange student Jun Lin.
A memorial is planned in Montreal for Lin tomorrow night.
A video circulating on the Internet — called 1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick — is believed by authorities to show Lin’s murder in Montreal several weeks ago.
It shows someone stabbing a man and dismembering him. It then shows the killer committing acts of sex and cannibalism on parts of the corpse.
Another Montreal high-school teacher, speaking to The Canadian Press, says he has heard from several of his students who have watched the video at home and immediately regretted it.
Education Minister Michelle Courchesne expressed anger over the incident.
“It’s horrifying,” Courchesne told reporters in Quebec City. “It’s a very, very serious and total lack of judgment. I don’t see any educational value in that (video).”

What the fuck could this guy possibly have been thinking. What a fucking retard.
I remember watching some messed up shit on RS(-offtopic when NWS was still allowed) back in high school. It was of some guy cutting up his own testicles, piercing his own penis, doing some super f'd up shit (some kind of body sport olympics?)... that kind of desensitized me to a lot of things I ended up seeing later on... With internet these days, gruesome movies easily downloadable to watch, its not a big surprise that this video doesn't phase kids as we expect it to
[edit]
For those that want to read about the video (and not watch it), I found a description of it:
Very hard to find, the 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick Video took the internet by the storm as the most horrific shock video to have been released to date. There are speculations that One Lunatic One Ice Pick may be an actual snuff film – produced by some crazy psycho who was paid to murder a person and film it on camera. Though as with everything that starts going viral on the internet, the chances of the reality being blown out of proportions are quite substantial. As a result, it’s quite possible that 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick is not a snuff film at all, but rather a home made recording of a psychopath who filmed his sick deed on camera the same way thousands of other murderers did, utilizing whatever technology allowed at the time.
Some people say that the 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick Video was produced in San Francisco, USA, others say it’s work of some crazy, 20 year old Russian who got paid 6 figures for it. To give his clients their moneys worth, the 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick Video contains murder, beheading, dismemberment, cannibalism and necrophilia (it doesn’t appear as though castration took place in this video, though).
The 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick Video is filmed in a dimply lit room. A naked male is seen tied to a frame of bed while his captor stabs him in the abdomen with an ice pick. The victim is them seen with his throat slashed as his captor proceeds to slowly slice various parts of his body with a knife.
Later in the video, the victim is entirely decapitated and the captor uses his kitchen knife to cut into the muscles and dismember one limb after another. The murderer plays with severed limbs and even rubs his crotch area with them. It must have turned him on because the next thing he does is flip the dismembered, decapitated corpse on its front and fuck it in the ass from behind.
Using a knife and fork, the murderer then slices a piece of fatty flesh from victim’s ass and presumably eats it before bringing a hungry dog in to also feast on freshly killed man. The black and white pooch could not resist the smell of raw flesh and bit right into the stump.
Once pooch was done, the murderer stuck a bottle neck up dismembered man’s anus and repeatedly assfucked him with it. Putting the severed hand into use once more, the murderer laid on his bed pantless and masturbated with it.

I don't know man, by the time you reach the age of 15/16, you're almost fully developed and I suppose you would already have knowledge of really fucked up shit so I can understand how this wouldn't have a lasting effect
Any of the 10th graders who've experienced any psychological or traumatic issues after watching it haven't been exposed enough to this kind of stuff .. I grew up watching horror movies and some really gory shit. Exposing this video to 10 year-olds would be different ..
idk this is just how I feel about it, since I'm still a teen myself

To everyone who commented saying how it's not that bad, or how they admit they are desensitized due to growing up in this time and age, you guys are exactly what the fuck I'm talking about.
There is supposed to be a line drawn. That line may change slightly by "era", yes, but when the bar is set so low that a video of an actual murdering of a human, decapitating, defiling, and eating the corpse, setting a wild animal upon it, and then sending various body parts by mail is not enough to cause "lasting effects", you know the bar is set way too fucking low.
Just hearing and reading about this makes me sick. I can't even imagine watching it. It doesn't make you hardcore that you can watch sick shit like this and not feel bad. It makes you sick.
This entire incident, and some of the reactions following it are exactly why

-school board was too lenient on this teacher. How the heck does the teacher still get paid after being suspended? -poor judgement shown by the teacher. He'll have a tough time getting his contract renewed at the end of the year.

Other article said that most of the students urged him to play it. They took a vote, and it was 22 students that wanted to see it, and 3 that didn't. It also said the teacher was still reluctant, but ended up doing it.
At the very least, he didn't just decide to play it for the hell of it... but still wasn't a bright decision to go by majority.

The teacher was a moron to have shown the video.
If the students want to look at corpses, then let them do it on their own time in their own home.

I think he's at least equally idiotic for going with a vote. If he just showed it, yeah, he's an idiot with bad judgement.
If he listened to a student vote, he must think it's ok, and that listening to students tell him how to do his job must be a good idea.
:considered: Hmm.. show students ridiculously gory inappropriate video?

I'm old and I don't even want to watch that video. I know it's fun to watch stupid thing when you're young but shit, I don't think 16-year old me wants to watch that video either.

^+1.. morbid curiosity what can i say
edit: k well found it and watched it.. i would say i expected worse although this isn't pleasant by any means. for me i was actually more afraid of the victim kicking and screaming than the gore and i didn't see any of that. cause to me, mutilating a dead body is wrong ethically and morally but it doesn't hurt the victim anymore cause they're already dead. so it's easier to watch than one of someone clearly in pain before they die. this guy seemed like he was drugged out and passed out when he got stabbed.

The woman that taught me in kindergarten a couple of years later re-enacted the holocaust by playing the blue eyed/brown eyed game on remembrance day. The kids did not get the meaning of it at all. In fact, they were quite horrified by the experience.
She was stripped of classroom duties and later made it to the National Enquirer as the worst teacher in the world.
What goes through these people's heads?

MONTREAL — A Montreal high school teacher was fired Thursday for showing a Grade 10 class what is believed to be the video of the infamous body-parts killing.
The school board issued a statement saying the 29-year-old teacher, who was under contract until the end of the school year, was terminated — effective immediately.
The teacher at Cavelier-De LaSalle High School showed the video on June 4, apparently at the urging of students in his history-and-civics class.
Students said that during a discussion of current events, and the Magnotta case, they had asked him to show the video and he apparently relented after they voted 22 to 3 in favour of watching it.
Widely available on the Internet, the video allegedly depicts Luka Rocco Magnotta killing, dismembering, and committing horrific acts Concordia University student Jun Lin. Its contents are so disturbing that even veteran police investigators have been rattled while viewing it.
The teacher has been suspended with pay since June 4 and he offered his description of the events to the school board on Wednesday.
One day later, the board made its announcement. It said it took a number of factors into account including the seriousness of the gesture and the impact on the students involved.
"The unacceptable nature of the action by the teacher demanded an unequivocal response," school board president Diane Lamarche-Venne said in a statement.
Many students had defended the popular young teacher. Earlier Thursday, several held a rally around lunchtime. The student body has created a petition calling for his reinstatement.
He has been described as a longtime volunteer, a hockey coach, and as someone students could always turn to if they needed to discuss problems inside or outside the classroom. He recently had a baby.
One student told The Canadian Press that the popular teacher made a mistake and should be allowed to return to his job — a view apparently held by many others at the school.
Before the announcement Thursday, Chloe Silvano had said she hoped he might keep his job.
"I will be sad (if he's dismissed) because he's the best teacher in the school," said Silvano. "Everyone finds he's a good teacher and everyone loves him...
"He's always there for us, listening to us when we need to talk... He's funny and we love him."
But not everyone held the view that he should be allowed to return. Another student agreed he should have been fired for his lapse in judgment.
"He's a great teacher, but what he did was wrong," said Brittany Henriques, "so firing him is the ideal thing to do."
Henriques agreed the students are not completely innocent in all this.
"The teacher is at fault completely, but so are the students." Henriques said. "They knew this was a real murder, they knew what was going on and they begged for it (to be shown)."
Students in the class said the incident began during a chat about current events — which is how the history-and-citizenship class often begins. Many students had already seen the video on their own.
A video circulating on the Internet — called "1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick" — is believed by authorities to show the 33-year-old Lin being murdered in Montreal several weeks ago.
It shows someone stabbing a man and dismembering him. It then shows the killer committing acts of sex and what appears to be cannibalism on parts of the corpse.
What disappointed Henriques was that the majority of the students wanted to see the video — and that none of them stood up to say no.
"It's horrible, disrespectful and disgusting to me," said Henriques, who was not in the class and has not seen the video.
"Never would I disrespect someone's family like that. I find it disgusting. It brings me to tears to think about it."
Henriques says students did the right thing by eventually telling school authorities.
Both the teacher and students will be offered counselling to deal with the stressful events of recent days.
