Just a heads up if you have not trien go karting at F440 in Tsawwassen.

They are going to shut down for good in four months.

Went there Wednesday night and had a blast. I would definitely recommend you bring your own helmet like we did.
You do NOT want to put on one of their helmets

I heard that too. They are keeping the water slides and building a mall around it like West Edmonton Mall or something like that and thus that means F440 has to go.

No way? They are going under? That totally sucks...

I know their karts are a little tired, but the course is fun and grip levels high. Being outdoor is a major bonus as well. As good as TBC is, I really like F440 a little more.

Not going under, but they are re-delveloping the area and they decided to keep the waterslides.

Outdoor tracks > Indoor tracks.

Sad to see F440 go. Many of my first motorsports memories were made there.

Noooo!

F440 > TBC by a fucking mile. There's nothign quite like sliding your karts around in the pissing rain or the snow :lol

Hopefully they'll be able to relocate somewhere else...

It was great, though TBC is definitely cleaner by a long shot.

Won't be the same if they move indoors though. For me at least, their single biggest advantage over TBC is being outdoors.

Also, if they re-locate to an indoor facilities, they really need to either replace their whole fleet, or at least significantly re-vamp 90% of their old, beat-up engines. Last time I went karting there (like, 2 months ago?), my kart's engine didn't sound all that healthy, and things looked more or less the same for the other karts. One kart, in particular, was belching some thick smoke the whole time when we were waiting in the pits. I was surprised they let that car ran. Having that kind of emissions indoors would be :failed:

Remember, most of F440's "faster" carts are TBC's old carts.
So their "slower" carts are their realy old carts.

Time to go electric. I used the electric karts at an indoor place in Vegas and they were awesome. With electric there is no such thing as fast or slow karts. they also had a great timing system. Got a print out of everyone's lap times at the end and you could see your lap times as you went by the start finish on a big screen after every lap.

All I remember about karting at F440 is that you could full throttle all but maybe one corner in their karts. Maybe the karts got faster since I last went, which is around 10 years ago. The track was really built for the bigger cars & racing karts.

Hahah same here. Lock up the wheels to induce counter steering and gas balancing to stay in drift :fullofwin:

Anyone have any time/weekend/date suggestions? It would be rad to make it a semi legit event. I'm good pretty much every weekend this summer other than great canadian VW show

if it's a weekend only sat after 6 works for me

SumAznGuy

Other than the first 2 weekends in July, I am free any other weekend.

Hondaracer, any motorcycle, karting helmet will do. They don't check the helmets like they do at a trackday. But bicycle helmets and beanies are a no go.

Raid3n
06-16-2012, 09:36 AM
beanies are okay as long as they are DOT i believe. i see ppl at TBC with beanies a lot. pretty sure i saw them at f440 too. not my choice of helmet for sure though lol. i wouldn't recommend an open face either. particularly at f440, rocks in the face suck (i know this from working at f440 and driving the karts with no helmet lol)

Definitely taking this chance. I've always wanted to go to F440 but never did

The outdoor go karts on Sidaway might be super slow (I swear I've ridden lawnmowers that are faster lol) but it's a hell of a lot of fun with a couple buddies when you've really got to negotiate corners properly to overtake. Had a ton of fun last weekend

Thanks for the heads up, gonna pick this one up i think.

Tired of tailgating all the noobs at TBC and their super narrow track that you cant even overtake properly on. Accidentally pit maneuvered somebody on the last hairpin turn too! :ilied:
