Hi guys, I'm going into second year and I'm planning to major in Econ. I am kind of torn between Econ301 with Neary and Econ325 with Kasahara right now....and possibly econ255 with Kotwal. Do any of you have experience with these courses and/or professors? And if any of you have some general advice that would be really helpful too. Thanks!

Oh, and what are your guys' thoughts on eosc114, ling101 (ling101 easier or ling100?), phil120, fmst210, and fmst238?

Also planning on taking Econ355 with Malhotra (waiting for a spot right now, its full :( ) Any thoughts on this one?

Hmm you can't take 325 without first taking 301. 301 is a pre/co-requisite for 325.

edit: I just checked apparently 301 isn't a prereq. Lol I guess I'm forgetting this stuff already.

ECON355 is the international trade one I think?
it was a pretty interesting course, her exams are fair and the homework is challenging but definitely doable - but I found Malhotra's style of teaching not to suit me very well...

thats actually was an prereq for 325. I guess theey changed it now.

@OP, I havent taken any of those courses, but theres an sfu thread. Maybe people there can give you some insights

Econ 355 is intro to international trade. I took it but with Kotwal not Malhotra.

Nisha Malhotra is a good prof, very understanding. If you go to her office hours it will help you a lot! I had her for my Econ 490 seminar and got an A+ with lots of help and guidance from Nisha.

Econ301 is a faculty requirement for a degree. So is Econ325

my advice is if you're considering pursuing econ phd then try econ325, if you're still not sure about econ and just want to try it out take 301

in general though the required econ courses weren't the really interesting ones -- take money and banking with Newman, you'll have fun!!
