| Iphone 4 button problem
Anyone experience the home button not responsive in their iphone 4? I have to repeatedly press my physical home button like 4-5 times before it works.
Is there a fix that I can do at home or do I need to shell out some cash for the Apple store guy to fix it?
Do you guys know whats the cause of this? I owned the phone for 16 month, never been dropped and never spill fluid over it , its always got a case and lcd protector on it.

My power button is "stuck" @ about 16-20 months. Also have heard stories about the home button not being responsive.
I think there's a shop on the 2nd level near the cement stairs in Crystal Mall that fixes iphones, maybe give them a try?

Had the same problem with my iPhone 4 with the home button. Took it to the Apple store (it was still under warranty) and they had a look at it then replaced my phone!

It is a common problem, I sold my iphone just because of that, it's annoying as hell and I don't feel like enable the onscreen button function. Same thing is happening to my friends and family's iphones.
You need to replace the button with a new one. Apple store will charge you A LOT, you can try to buy the parts and install it by yourself. It's only a 30 minutes job.

Seems like apple designs these phones to last exactly until after the warranty period. My first iPhone 4 needed replacing almost after one year. Lock button died and the home button was becoming unresponsive.
Phone feels slower and slower as time goes on now. And now my battery life is not the greatest (I've had my replacement phone for almost a year now.

have you guys recalibrated the home button? some say it doesnt work, but it worked for me and some of my friends.
Step 1: Navigate to, and launch one of the stock applications on your iPhone. If you don’t already know, the stock apps are things like weather, YouTube, stocks, settings etc (any that come as part of iOS).
Step 2: When the app is launched, press and hold the Power button located at the top of the device until the ‘Slide to power off’ appears.
Step 3: Press and hold the iPhone home button. Keep the button depressed until the Slide to power off slider disappears and the application quits back to Springboard.
Step 4: Your home button is now re-calibrated and should be more responsive for you.

Damn I came into this thread looking for iPhone design news; thinking that you meant having the 4 buttons on the iPhone was a problem.

I too had this problem. I was under my second year of AppleCare but the Apple Store still gave me a hard time, telling me time and time again to do a complete reset as it was a software problem. I complied but the problem still persisted.
Then they cleaned the 30-pin connector of dust, saying that should fix it... it didn't.
I went to Toronto soon after where the Apple Store was happy to replace my phone even though the issue I presented to them was a network issue and not phone related... seems to me that the Metro Vancouver Apple Stores are a lot more stringent with replacing iPhones. They used to do it so freely, but not anymore.

my sister's bf's iphone 4s is already developing problems. He only got it 3 months ago. I noticed though his home button did feel different from mine to touch.
my gf with her iphone 4s with a home button that does work also feels different from mine. Is this supposed to be the case? Or am I missing out on something?

Its a well known issue - the only way to get it resolved is to have the button replaced.

Like mentioned it's a known issue and the bottom needs to be replaced. I had the exact same issue last month and swapped it at the Apple store for a refurb.
