| what phone should i get
So i have a lot of fido dollars, like 450 or something. I've been using this crappy phone for years and it finally broke down so it's time for an upgrade. Unfortunately, i know NOTHING about phones. I didn't even know my current phone could go on the internet.
Anyways, I don't know which phone to get out of the selection. I usually just use my phone to text, take videos/pictures, so the camera quality means a lot to me. I like to film my friends and compile them into videos (i use windows movie maker) - but some video formats cannot be imported into that program. If there's certain phones that have formats that can't then it'd be nice if someone told me :P
here's the selection of phones: Smartphones and Mobile Internet Stick | Shop | Fido.ca
I was also thinking of getting an iPhone. My friends all tell me to get it. I guess I'd be willing to fork over another 200 dollars on top of my fido dollars to get one, but I wanted opinions from people who have more knowledge on this stuff. The main advantage I'd get with using an iPhone is that I don't have to carry both an ipod and a phone with me. But all phones can play music too, I'm just wondering if they're AS convenient to load songs into. I'm used to using itunes and ipods ect
all comments are appreciated. thanks

The galaxy nexus is a really good phone. it's $600 outright on fido right now and ~$400 on craigslist bnib. so if you want to spend your money at fido then get that. I'd avoid contracts as much as possible. the new desire c is pretty nice too. a new iphone should be coming out in the fall so many you should hold off on the current model if you want an iphone.

i have a 5megapixel phone atm, but the photos it takes aren't that great.. same as my old one with like 3.5 megapixels. is the nexus's 5megapixel realy good?
my friend keeps emphasizing on how great android is. what's so great about it though.

iPhone 4S base on the stuff that you want from a phone.
Here's why:
- The 4S uses a Sony backlit camera sensor (same one in the Samsung Galaxy S3). It provides you with pretty good pictures and videos.
- You are used to using iTunes for your iPod, loading music to the iPhone is just like loading it into the iPod.
- Higher resell value in the long term if you plan to sell it in the future.
The only thing I don't know is that I'm not sure if the iPhone videos format can be put in Windows Movie maker. The iPhone uses .MOV for video taken with the phone camera.
As for Android.
The Galaxy Nexus is worth a look because it uses the pure google android software with no add-ons from the manufacturer. It also gets software update first. But if you have friends that live in the states you can ask them to order one from Google directly at a much lower price point.
However, the Nexus camera may not be as good as you may want.

If you use gmail and other Google products, Android is way better. I love how my Gal Nex auto syncs everything from my gmail to apps and contacts. Everything is very well integrated and cohesive. My iPhone was a pain in the ass for everything.

No , if u buy the phone outright u don't need to. At least I'm not aware of it. Since ur contract is still on going and u buying it outright i doubt fido would mind... Not 100% sure though

megapixels don't mean fucking anything.
also take it from someone who has been on android to blackberry to iphone and I can honestly say the galaxy nexus is handsdown the best phone out there, even better than the s3.

Yup, MP is like horsepower figures. It gives you a rough idea of one aspect..but it doesn't tell you everything. The 5MP in the Gal Nex is quite good. It also has zero shutter lag and takes HD video. It's good, not as good as the 4S or S3 camera though.

Cameras: Photo Compare Tool - GSMArena.com
Honestly, I love my gnex. Especially with jellybean, it's heavenly. Solid, smooth, reliable, and faster than anything I've ever used. And the screen on my phone is pretty much the same size as the entire Iphone 4S. Go Gnex.

Okay so I've narrowed it to Galaxy Nexus or the HTI One
just wondering. how's texting with those things? I'm so used to texting with a physical, slide keyboard. i'm not used to touch pads (not yet i guess). when i use my ipod touch i can barely type anything without hitting the keys next to the one im trying to press.
I'm considering the Galaxy nexus because of the praise everyone is giving it. I'm eyeing the HTC one because of the Beats audio thing (although I dont know much about it). I love to hear good quality music, where u can hear the seperate instruments, bass ect. Does Beats audio do that?

OneS>Nexus imo better build quality, its thinner and isn't huge in the hand, aluminum case
screen they're both pentile and the nexus has a higher resolution but the OneS is smaller which, for me, is a positive (cant stand huge screens)
more ghz in the CPU better video card too,
camera quality they're basically the same but the oneS does allow you to record video and take pictures at the same time
but the nexus does have NFC if thats important to you
in regards to beats audio its just a gimmick

no in fact ive read people saying the sq is worse compared to non beats android phones
NFC is short for near field communication it basically allows you to connect to other nfc devices without having to login or press buttons (the command within the NFC chip does all that for you) all you do is tap/touch the devices together and you can transfer a file/send a command etc its more a novelty atm imo (but you can have fun if you know how or have other nfc devices)
for instance there are NFC equipped speakers and you can tap your phone to it and your music will start to play out of the speaker (if you have 2 speakers you can have stereo sound) or you can tap your phone to a bluetooth headset and they're connected or tap another phone with nfc to transfer a file automatically etc (it can become much more in depth on the things you can do)

Beats is basically "bass boost" that has been around for decades. Sounds good for some music (rap) horrible for others (just about everything else)

Galaxy nexus > htc one S any day of the week. Higher resolution screen, and way better OS support which is always the most important thing when it comes to Android phones. I would never go any other route again. The gnex is just a solid phone overall and the jellybean update makes it smoother than any android phone currently. Killer price/performance ratio if you can buy from the US play store.
Texting is fine on it but i highly recommend a 3rd party keyboard (ie. Swiftkey or swype)

Well in terms of build quality the HTC may have better materials but the qa is horrible. I hope all the issues have been fixed. And yeah. I'll take a stock unmodified android any day over a layered one like touchwiz or sense.

I've been using android since G1. Then dual wielded an iPhone Berry and then berry android. I've only ever owned a nexus phone and I haven't looked baCk
The responses I get from working the field since the jellybean announcement has been released are astonishing. I've seen some people wait for Samsung to release JB for the s3 or has decided to see the playing field of the next or first jellybean compatible dedevice.

I'm pretty sure my next phone will be Google branded. Although not a big deal really, I am not fond of waiting forever for OS updates, only to have it canceled (Desire HD here)

I had an Xperia X10, then an Xperia Play. SE is the WORST when it comes to shafting people on updates
