Anyone know where i can find a knee support? something that's of the compression nature to just wrap my knee while it's healing.

I bought mine at shoppers drug mart... they also sell the same ones at superstore.

i used to get generic ones from sportschek but their selection started to get not that great over the years.

The mueller compression type, I buy online from amazon or similar.

open patella is for people with a specific type of knee problem (like me :okay:)
open patella keeps the patella aka knee cap in place because it is misaligned when bending it (goes to the side). so when you bend your knee it keeps it in place from going off track and grinding/wearing your joint in an improper way.
i'm no kinesiologist (can't even spell it :lawl:) but i don't think open patella would help you if you don't have patella issues...it'll just leave a red ring indented around your knee cap for an hour after done using it hah.

i also like to get ones with neoprene material. anything that absorbs sweat is :heckno:

good ones are not cheap. works like a charm!

don't most extended coverages require "support" within the brace? meaning strictly a sleeve won't be covered? I know they sell ones with metal lining on the sides to get around it to say the metal wiring is "support" when it doesn't do a whole lot.

if OP is just looking for cheap - I think superstore has them too.

If you can get a doctor to prescribe it, then you can write it off on your extended health.
Otherwise, I have bought mine in the USA at Big 5 sports in Bellisfair for a lot cheaper than up here.

i got an nba sleeve that was pretty nice off of ebay for $20 a few years back. couldn't find another one so i tried out shock doctor one off amazon for $18 for the other knee because the back had open mesh to breath. not back, has 'hooks' to pull it up when it slips down...and that's kind of the downside...it does slip down...even with the open patella. overall not bad for something not prescribed...

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a custom knee brace? Any experience with these guys: Burnaby Orthopaedic & Mastectomy? I had a knee surgery done on oct5th and they removed a loose body (haven't got told if it was a cartilage or a bone) and the surgery didn't go as well as i thought.

2months later my knee is still swollen, it clicks like a mofo and pain can be pretty excessive at times... i've been back to work within 3 weeks but my knee keeps buckling and i dont see much of an improvement :(

Any places you guys could suggest would be of great help. Thanks in advance

i visited a place in the mall above safeway at cambie/12th in vancouver that seemed like a nice place. looked higher end and i remember them mentioning custom braces. they said a lot of their clients were professional athletes, might wanna swing by and check 'em out.

i didn't end up using them because for the type of knee issue i had i visited a kinesiologist i believed was referred to me by someone i forget who. in the office building on nelson across from metrotown. he just looked what the dr diagnosed me with and sized me up and got a normal knee brace off the shelf

Thanks bud, any chance u know the name of that place? Anyone knowledgable on what brands are popular and effective? I read about donjoy, breg, townsend and bledsoe... Is it all pretty much the same crap, different mfg? Guess i can ask that question in the clinic too :P if anyone has any input about these brands would be awesome anyways... Thx again

no it's been many years ago, sorry. same with brands, haven't shopped for heavy duty knee stuff in a while so i can't remember. i think your dr/specialist can point you in the right direction. i know i felt a lot more confident i was getting what i needed and not just the most expensive thing after talking to a specialist whom then forwarded me on to a kinesioligist. different braces support different knee problems - muscle, bone, area of the knee, etc.

I have a torn acl but it doesn't look like the specialists will operate on it. I'm a hockey goalie so knee support it pretty important to me. i've tried the cheap sleeve you get from sportschek or whatever, it doesn't help much. Current I'm using a breg shortrunner I bought online, and so far it's been holding up alright. It did cost me 100+ but it would've cost more locally. The website I got it from was the braceshop if I remember property. They have a pretty large selection of braces from different manufacturers. They also categorized it into the different types of support required.
