: X-Men: Days of Future Past (First Class sequel)

First, we told you about the rumor about it being based on this story arc. Then we followed up with why it would be a brilliant thing to do. Well, now it looks like it is official. Twentieth Century Fox C.I.S. have reportedly confirmed and a Russian news site has posted information stating that the much anticipated sequel will be lifted from the pages of the Marvel comic’s and be titled X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Now while this will not be a direct adaptation of the storyline (cue: angry internet nerds and people who liked First Class but will not admit it) this is probably one of Fox’s best moves they can make with the franchise allowing them to introduce fan-favorite characters quite possibly without having to totally disregard stories they have already told. Well, minus X-Men Origins: Wolverine which I wish I could disregard from my own memory. With the film going into production in January we should definitely be expecting a flood of news starting soon.

iirc they were shipped to subscription holders also for comics that were packaged in bags of 2 or more where a barcode wasn't needed or a separate one was used and also those comics sold in comic book stores rather than retail outlets like a safeway/save-on (not too sure about this last one its been so long)

marvel also used the area to show anniversaries like those for spiderman or marvel (recall some 30th? anniversary spiderman images shown in place of the barcode)

Prepare your nerdy selves for the following hype news.

Hugh Jackman was rumored last month to be joining the cast of director Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, but now the filmmaker has made the casting official via his Twitter account.

"I would officially like to welcome @RealHughJackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited! More to come..." Singer said.

Jackman is joining a cast that includes James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

Scheduled for release on July 18, 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past features a script by Simon Kinberg and is said to be inspired Chris Claremont and John Byrne's comic book storyline that ran in "Uncanny X-Men" #141 and 142 back in 1981. "Days of Future Past" introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

In addition to playing a key role in the comic book version of the story, Wolverine has appeared in every live-action "X-Men" film to date and will star in his second solo adventure with the July 26 release The Wolverine.

X2/First Class are tied for best X-Men movie IMO. First Class would be No.1 had it had more badass action and badass Wolverine and better supporting characters.

The Mansion fight scene in X2 is the best scene in the franchise.

I hated the fact that they centered around Wolverine so much in the first X trilogy while butchering important characters like Cyclops and Storm. But I still love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

That said I can pretty much guarantee that this won't be another Wolverine-centered movie like all the rest. Professor X and Magneto will still be at the forefront.

Regarding "Days of Future Past," Jackman says he "first heard about it around October or November [2012]. I was literally finishing 'The Wolverine' and dreaming about lasagna, and about three weeks before the end, they told me." The role is large and will reunite him with many of the original cast. "There was no way I was not going to be part of that."

He added that he has not read the finished screenplay and has only seen a synopsis of about eight pages long.

The trade notes that shooting on X-Men: Days of Future Past will start in mid-April in Montreal. After that, Jackman wants to be home with his family in New York's West Village for a while.

As we reported yesterday, "Game of Thrones" actor Peter Dinklage has been added to the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The initial announcement by director Brian Singer gave us no details about which character he would be playing in the film. Many speculated that he would play the dwarf member Alpha Flight, Puck, but Variety is now reporting that the role Dinklage has landed is the film's main antagonist, which leaves the 'Puck' theories out in the cold.

montreal?? awwww wth thought it would be vancouver

Nothing is filmed in Vancouver any more. Our tax breaks caused the TV and movie industry to leave. I have friends in the industry and they have or will move away.

Vancouver use to have anywhere between 30-50 projects running at any given time. Now we are down to 6 projects and 4 of those projects will leave at the end of this season.

I'm not surprised that this is being shot in Montreal, since Wolverine 2 is being shot in Ontario.

Today, MTV Geek is reporting that a source of theirs claims Dinklage has been cast as Bolivar Trask, the creator of the mutant-hunting Sentintels. This is by no means a confirmation on the actor's role, so treat this as a rumor for now. If true, it does present a few problems for director Bryan Singer (who claims to be using "Days of Future Past" as a way to "fix" the continuity of the X-Men films) because Trask appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by actor Bill Duke.

POSSIBLE SPOILER but not really at all...i'll spoiler tag it just in case.

With Bryan Singer at the helm of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the prospect of seeing both young and old versions of our favorite heroes in one movie is very exciting. However, as James McAvoy, a.k.a. the young Charles Xavier, revealed earlier this week, the actor probably won't be working directly with Patrick Stewart in the upcoming sequel.

"It'll be cool, but I don't think we get any scenes together, sadly," McAvoy told Empire (via ComicBookMovie.com). "I don't think there's any future self talking to past self."

"Ellen Page returns as Kitty from the Brett Ratner–directed X-Men: The Last Stand, but this time she uses her powers to send Hugh Jackman's Wolverine back into the past, where he encounters the younger mutants played by James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender. However, something bad happens to Kitty during the time-travel trance, and while Wolverine is still under her spell, the other X-Men must race to find a mutant who can siphon Kitty's powers and bring their friend back to the future."

WTF

First Class should have just wiped the slate clean and started fresh.

They are trying to shoe-horn in the original movies as the same universe and the same actors. It's ridiculous.

Compare all the other Superhero movies to the MCU.
Marvel took their time, retconned the Hulk movie and takes their characters seriously.

The other movies are either full of cheese, or tries to fit in far too much.

Read an article that they're expanding the X-Universe. I think it all starts with Days of the Future Past.

Because the timeline is already FUBAR (2 beasts, dead Cyclops, wtf Deadpool, etc.) I think the time travel in the next movie is going to reset the universe.

They already said they are looking into X-Force movie (Cable woot!). I'm kinda excited and it gets rid of some of the dead weight from the messed up timeline.

Agreed. Just watched First Class this past weekend and story was pretty intriguing. But was it just me or did the visual effects for First Class look kinda dated/fake? X1 and X2, even though older, seemed to have nicer effects.

Also the Nightcrawler opening scene in X2 blew my mind when I first saw it.

Ya the X-Force movie is in early production which is awesome.

The great thing bout x-men is that mutants are a race filled with interesting mutant characters. It really doesn't do it justice to ony make x-men movies if u think about it. I'm glad they are doing this.

God damn. Marvel Studios and the Avengers really started something.

What I'm curious about is how Sony will expand their Spider-Man universe and whatever other marvel properties they had. Is it even possible?

While 20th Century Fox prepares for their Hall H panel at SDCC, the press got a chance to chat with actor Hugh Jackman. One very interesting topic of discussion was how Logan evolves from the beginning of The Wolverine to the end of it.

First off, Jackman says that Logan is approximately 200 years old during The Wolverine and is battling his own immortality. However, the Logan that is seen at the beginning of the film is not the same as at the end of the movie.

What this exactly means remains to be seen, unless you've already seen an early screening of it. Jackman also alluded to the fact that the Logan at the end of The Wolverine is the same seen at the beginning of next summer's X-Men Days of Future Past.

SDCC 2013: Hugh Jackman Quickly Teases WOLVERINE in X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/TheDailySuperHero/news/?a=83771)

ox shocked the media at their press conference when they walked out the entire main case of next summer's X-Men Days of Future Past. Everyone from Hugh Jackman to Patrick Stewart to Michael Fassbender to Jennifer Lawrence were there with everyone else who plays a major role too!

One of the biggest questions surrounding the next X-Men movie is who the time traveler is and that has now been confirmed to be Wolverine.

"Kitty is the one who sends someone back in time and so as people will see... Wolverine goes back in time," said Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg.

Director Bryan Singer went into a bit more detail regarding next summer's time traveler.

"Basically the notion is Hugh of the future is sent … his conscienceness... is sent into his younger self [and] Hugh gets to play both parts because he is ageless," Singer said.

In the comics it is Kitty who takes a trip back into the mind of her younger self but this adapted version has Wolverine and it just makes sense since he is Fox's X-Men poster boy. Now fans have to wait until the first trailer for X-Men Days of Future Past is released and should hope they'll also get a first glimpse of the Sentinels.

Peter Dinklage is such a great idea for Trask. Having dwarfism is kinda like being a mutant with really shitty powers. It adds an extra bit of motivation for the character to detain or kill mutants since he got screwed over while other mutants can do cool things like fly and move stuff with their mind.

Peter Dinklage is such a great idea for Trask. Having dwarfism is kinda like being a mutant with really shitty powers. It adds an extra bit of motivation for the character to detain or kill mutants since he got screwed over while other mutants can do cool things like fly and move stuff with their mind.

So not directly related to the DOFP film but it's been let out that in 2016 there's going to be another film titled

X-Men: Apocalypse

?X-Men: Apocalypse? Coming Summer 2016 | /Film (http://www.slashfilm.com/x-men-apocalypse-coming-2016/)

Wonder if he's going to look like this

Nothing less than a giant apocalypse will be acceptable.

If they have some actor in a normal sized suit or only in the suit at the very end then that would be laaaaaame.

If Marvel had the rights to FF and X-Men
They would toss out all the old movies, and no more legacy continuity crap.

Find a new wolverine actor.
And do Apocalypse right.

...

And there would be Celestials.

It's suggested that Apocalypse will play out like Onslaught did in the comics except instead of Magneto+Xavier = Onslaught it's going to be Magneto+Something=Apocalypse

Sorry Rogue/Anna Paquin Fans her scenes from DOFP have made it to the cutting room floor

'X-Men': Major change in 'Days of Future Past' -- EXCLUSIVE | Inside Movies | EW.com (http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/12/20/x-men-days-future-past-rogue-anna-paquin/)

http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2013/12/20/X-MEN-ROGUE.jpg

There will be one less mutant in this summer’s highly anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past, which combines the casts of the original X-Men trilogy with those of 2011′s First Class. Director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects) has revealed to EW exclusively that a rescue sequence — shot early in the film’s production and featuring Magneto (Ian McKellen), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Rogue (Anna Paquin), and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) — has been cut from the final film. Sadly, this means that Rogue’s screen time has been significantly chopped down as well.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” explains Singer. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

Singer emphasizes that the decision had nothing to do with the Oscar-winning True Blood star, who was on set for only week of Days of Future Past, or with her performance. “She did a fantastic job,” says the director. “She was awesome in the sequence. She’s a brilliant actress. I would work with her in a heartbeat.”
Singer, who is still editing the film in advance of its release on May 23, 2014, has already broken the news to Paquin. “She completely understood,” he says. “It’s very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve.”

That's because at this point Wolverines claws are bone again and would probably break. I'm sure in the next one Stryker will fuse him with adamantium again and he'll be able to go to town on the Sentinels.

Dont get your hopes up. I'm sure this is the last we've seen of the sentinels already especially knowing that the next movie will be apocalypse.

Also mystique was disguised as Stryker at the end of the movie so perhaps the way he gets metal claws is different.

Not gonna lie, easily the best X-Men film I've ever seen (even better than X-2 and First Class, and I loved them both!), and arguably my favorite marvel film of all time. I definitely can't wait until the extended bluray is available since they (not much of a spoiler, more like a heads up) cut out all of Rogue's scenes from the theatrical release.

Well, not all of them :ilied:

To me, this was slightly better than First Class, which I found better than X2 (which I caught again on TV before watching DOFP). Really enjoyable movie, though to be fair I would probably only pay to watch it again just for that Pentagon scene. Such a fun scene.

I'll buy the hard-copy though. Great film.

Halle Berry said in an interview "there's something very shocking and revealing about Storm in this movie. There are some things you find out about her that I think give you much more insight into who she is. "

Anyone else miss this completely in the movie? Likely scenes left on the cutting room floor?

Also very disappointed about a lot of the First Class characters

Like why so many were specifically mentioned killed off: Emma Frost, Azazel, Angel, Banshee. They spent so much time fleshing these characters out in the first movie (including Havok) and they're all ignored in this one.

Also about Kitty/time travel

It was poorly written when they provide no explanation at all for why Kitty suddenly has time travel/mind powers.

For the cameos

Was that Kelsey Grammer as Beast near the end in the new future, or a different actor?

If I missed something with Storm, they really did a poor job trying to make her reveal new and shocking layers to her character lol

Mystique needed a reason to hate Bolivar and want to kill him. No better way to do that than to have her really good friends killed. Plus you could argue that it leads the viewers to understand Raven's plight, since we all knew these characters from First Class. They weren't just random mutants killed by Trask- they were somewhat important mutants to the plot.

You're right- Kitty's time travel/phasing ability is glossed over. But imo it didn't really take away from the movie. They are mutants, after all. We don't need an origin explanation for their powers (be it born with or honed over time).

And I'm pretty sure that was Kesley Grammar. At least it looked like/sounded like him.

I thought it was really good overall. All the characters powers were cool, except Storm but that's not unusual.

One thing I really thought was stupid though

was how everyone was so willing to freak out over seeing a naked blue girl and a monkey man fighting in Paris. Was it so bad that they needed to build these giant monster robots to hunt them down? And people are all there cheering for these robots that look like technology that is half a century too new? I thought that part was stupid. Otherwise it was fun.

Also, Peter Dinklage's American accent was horrible :lawl:

hehe your name is Sentinel and you're talking about sentinels :toot:

Perhaps they went a little overboard with the look to make it seem like they're way ahead of their time (which they were). Given the fictional materials of a "special polymer" and "no metal parts" since they knew of a metal manipulator already in Magneto, I think they were still onside with what they did regarding the sentinel look.

Personally the thing that bugged me (aside from Peter Dinklage's psedo-Tyrion) was the ability for Hank's serum to reverse paralysis. I didn't think psychic powers and the physical ability to walk were so intertwined... :suspicious:

The timeline is all screwed up. It's more screwed up than F&F franchise lol.

changing the past does allow them to reboot the entire franchise and bring back jean grey and cyclops.

I heard the next movie will be in the 1980s so not sure if they are going to recast cyclops and jean grey into their younger selves.
