mobilicity noob question

How is mobilicity unlimited data speed compare to rogers none LTE speed? (I only do random web browsing and some youtube and social media stuff, or ESPN app)

How is reception compares to rogers if I live in the Mobilicity zone (red)

New unlimited back to school plan $35 including north american text and 30mins roaming. Does this mean I can use it when I go shopping in the states for 30mins every month?

your answer is appreciated.

P.S.
Will mobilicity Samsaung S3 work on Roger/bell network for voice and data? and vice versa : will Rogers/bell GS3 work on Mobilicity voice and data? I was told the Galaxy Nexus works on all carriers for voice and data because it has pentaband.

Obviously you get what you pay for, you cant really expect a 35 dollar plan to match a 60+ dollar plan's speed. It IS decent though, and you can do youtube and stuff pretty well.

Reception has grown much stronger in the past year and is pretty stable for me so far, there are times like when you're in an underground parkade or canada line and reception completely drops.

30 Mins roaming means yea basically you can use 30 minutes of talking in the states per month.

Mobilicity's data is fine for web browsing, checking Facebook, Twitter etc but a little slow for Youtube. You might pause for a little bit to let it load. What I do instead is I download the video and watch it.

Reception is not a problem unless you're in a building, if you're at the bottom chances are you won't get good reception. If you are in a house then pretty much full bars. Malls don't get very good reception either.

North American text means you can text in NA but I don't know if that means you can text in the states or not. Roaming I've never used so I don't know at all.

Hope it helped. somewhat haha

It WILL work, but only after you unlock it. IIRC all phones that have the AWS frequencies also have the normal Rogers/Bell frequencies. But thats for the first question, im not sure if a rogers/bell will work on mobi.

You just have to make sure it's a pentaband phone. Just google the name of your phone with pentaband somewhere in the search query. I'm not sure if you can unlock it after you root it but it worked on my Panache. Free unlocking

I switched from Rogers to Mobilicity, and short story short.... I'm going over to Wind now... only been with Mobilicity a few months....

before I switched I thought to myself, I don't care if I get a few dropped calls a month, don't mind it when I'm saving $70 a month, but dropped calls are the least of my problems with Mobilicity...don't let the reception is ok talk fool you, Mobilicity reception on my phone Nexus S is horrible.... when I wasn't busy getting 1 or 2 bars in main parts of town, I would get lost reception that's been getting worse and worse over the last month....
Sometimes I get full bars but they are shaded grey and without the 3G symbol which means I can't use data whatsoever, but txts and calls go through.....
the most frustrating thing is that I lose my signal about a dozen times a day and most of the time it won't just reconnect automatically, I have to go into settings find Mobilicity and connect to it, a process which takes up to a few minutes most of the time...

anyway, you're in the same shoes as I am, the switch from Rogers to Mobilicity is not gonna be pleasant for you, just go with Wind, their connection is known to be noticeably better than Mobilicity

I think only Voice and EDGE data will work. 3g/4g/lte are different frequencies IIRC

they have different model numbers too?

as myself and a couple of others have stated, even wind has network issues. my texts werent going through with wind and i had problems with calls as well. in the end i switched to bell and am now paying $75/month for a service that actually works all the time, everywhere.

Yep, you can only connect to Rogers/Fido on 2G with a Wind/Moblicity S3, a Rogers/Fido S3 won't work completely on Wind/Mobilicity.

yea i wasnt saying wind is perfect, I know the big 3 companies have very reliable services, but wind is noticeably better than mobilicity as far as the issues I have posted about, not perfect and reliable as my old rogers, but hey i'm paying like $35 a month every month exactly that same amount for unlimited, while my rogers would vary between $80 and $100+ for a very limited data plan which was bullshit....

i was so fed up with rogers i actually paid $150 to get out of my contract....

I just hope that these smaller companies doing unlimited plans don't sell out to big 3 because unlimited plans are the future, and if rogers or telus or bell buy let's say mobilicity or whoever else offering unlimited.... they'll kill it and try to keep to market far away as possible from unlimited plans for as long as possible

again with wind/mobi you get what u pay for, but if you're not on your phone a lot, and you are not using it for work, i would say its a great alternative. I don't use my phone all that much so its great, works whenever i need it to work. The only person that really calls/texts me is my gf anyways.

AND now i have an excuse incase my gf says she texted me something or tried to call me and if i dont respond i can just say "oh sorry, i didn't get it, i probably didnt have service then "

don't do mobi, go with wind.

but to answer your question, i don't know about the speeds for mobilicity, but there is a speedtest thread on here that you can look at to get an idea of the data speeds achieved.
from what i've seen, mobilicity is the slowest, and least stable. if you're opting for a cheap plan, while still retaining most features/options, i do highly recommend wind. i've been with them since december. and in my opinion, the service was essentially the same as fido (was on fido for 5-6 years) both in reception and data speeds. i did have the odd dead spots, and areas where fido would have reception and wind wouldn't, but they were areas i dont go to often. i'm a fairly heavy phone user and have been very impressed with the reception, while i've heard nothing but complaints about mobilicity. mind you, im sure there are good things to be said, but i've only heard the negatives

as for the 50 minutes roaming, i do believe that is how it works but you might wanna double check with a rep just to be sure.

also, as someone mentioned. if you get the phone from wind/mobi you can use on all carriers BUT, if it's not on wind/mobi you will only be on the edge network for data, which is extremely slow/non-existant but you'll be able to make calls and text. but if you have a phone from the big 3, you will NOT be able to use it on wind/mobi at all because of the different frequencies
