iPhone 4 Help: Lost all contacts after IO5 Update

Hey guys,

I tried to search this topic, but there were too many pages to go thru in the iphone thread so i thought I would just post and ask.

So I finally updated my iPhone from ios 4.x.x to ios 5.

I backed up my iPhone 4 prior to updating to ios 5.

Please Note:

- I never backed up contacts using outlook, gmail, etc
- I only backed up the iphone through iTunes prior to the ios 5 update
- I've never used iCloud before

So after backing up the iPhone, i updated to ios 5.

Everything is fine. My text messages are there, my email accounts are there, my notes are there.

Even my "Favorites" list is there, but there are no names associated to the numbers in my text msg, or my favorites list. In the contacts list, it's blank.

Is there a way I can get my contact list back?

Will Apple's Genius Bar help me?

Or am I shiit out of luck?

Thanks everyone.

You backed up your phone prior to the update right?
then just restore your backup to your iPhone and everything should be fine.
Don't worry restoring your backup won't revert your firmware back to iOS4

Its a known issue when updating to os 5.

Ask this question in google, and you'll get several diff methods that worked for other ppl in recovering the contacts.

theres software you can get that takes the backup file and extracts it on to your HDD, then from there you can transfer it into address book and sync it to your iphone.

i don't know how to fix it, but after you do, enable contact backup on icloud. use icloud.

Backed up phone using iTunes not long ago. Then got a new iPhone 4, restored it and it was fine. Might be a problem with iTunes.
