I remember when I finally made it to Mars I was so fricken happy. I'm not big into games but this is one I would buy just because it's X-COM and nothing beat's memories from childhood

LOL Gotta admit, the revised "improved" versions never quite seem the same as the originals.

It's like playing the new CS, just isn't the same as the original. But playing the original now for me isn't the same either. I tried recently, just wasn't as fun as I remembered. Maybe cuz I'm horrible at it now and too spoiled by the new technology.

yo man syndicate was awesome.

i'd love autodestructing my agents cuz it took out the whole screen.

or using the persuade thing and persuading every single civilian to follow you, arming them and getting in one of those slick hover cars.
then you blow up the hover car and its like a million burning people running out in all directions. LOL!!!

evil.

The demo is available for download...

Man the developers must think the game is good shit if they release it weeks before the actual release date!

Anyone playing this game? My friend bought it for me as a bday gift. It's got a classic X-Com feel to it, but with a whole lot of improvements. The removal of action points is interesting. The game has a faster pace, but I kind of miss the fine-tuning that action points offered. Grenades are a nice go-to weapon, initially, but you'll need avoid blowing up aliens, if you want their equipment intact. Can't wait to play some more tonight!

i'm loving it so far, but DAMN its ridiculously hard even on normal difficulty.

i'm about to start over because the macro side of things is going to shit despite me doing well in the missions. Going to try focusing more on satelites i guess.

Snipers seem fairly OP... i was running 3/6 snipers and in longer outdoor areas they can just wreck things. My biggest problem is that elevation does not equal cover, so even though i get elevation bonuses by going up on top of a truck, every enemy gets flanking shots, seems like a stupid design decision. I really think it would have better with a fallout style stand/kneel/prone system.

Ya the game is REALLY good... I'm only a about 3 hours into it but loving every minute of it... You sure get attached to your squad members especially after you name them after family and friends LOL

Ugh... fuckin' Chrysalids. Research laser rifles asap. I ran out of money and was only able to get 2 laser rifles for my squad, and trying to take down an alien base with conventional weapons sucks. Especially, on the boss that tries to mind control your guys. I've named my soldiers after friends and family. Even with constant saving, I still end up losing people. Narayan's right. It's tough when you lose 'em. On average, soldiers have a 2 mission life expectancy.

What difficulty are you playing? I'm doing ironman normal and havent lost to many soliders. I believe I have like 4 majors and 2 captains for my main squad... I did just lose one of my best heavies last night who had 17 kills... Poor Grant... I cant wait to tell him at work today how he was vaporized LOL

I didn't have any problems until I hit a level with a lot of Chysalids turning everyone into zombies. I just got my grappling hooks too :fuckyea:

I'm playing on normal. I don't think I should have took on the alien base so soon. I'm only in my 2nd month.

It's kinda shitty that aliens get a free move when you get initially get in their LOS. Those Chrysalids cover an insane amount of distance.

I think I am going to start a new game, paying more attention to building satellites right away. Combat is easy, but I am starting to lose countries fast. This is because I built up my weapons, but not satellites... good for a quick start, but sucks later on!

Never EVER "Dash" unless it's an emergency. They get a free move, but not an attack. That's the same as your dash.

So don't dash... you can retreat if you have to, or use overview

:werd:
That's the way to play the game. Let them come to you, and they'll get picked off on approach.

I think I'm at near the end. If it is, then this game is a bit short compared to the original X-Com.

I just sent my best PSI soldier into the Gallop Chamber. Now, it looks like I'm supposed to take on the Temple Ship.

Frick lost 2 of my Majors when I was playing over the weekend... Last mission I had I lost my best heavy and half my squad was hurt, loving it though!

and on a total side note I was just made aware that there is a ton of stuff you can sell on the black market that you dont need... I made over 1k in cash by doing so which helped alot...

Just experienced my first Sectopod

Took it out without getting hit (used a few saves though, but still!)

Heavy with HEAT ammo ftw :fuckyea:

The AI is kind of fucked though, the thing can shoot at you all the way from the other side of the level :fulloffuck:

I finally finished the game. My campaign lasted 333 days. All my soldiers were top rank. I had 2 snipers, 2 support, 2 assaults. 2 of 'em had PSI ability. The last stage was very long. I think my final battle was a bit easy:

I mind controlled a Muton Elite, and sent it into the final room. Once I got into the middle, an Ethereal came into LOS, and started a cutscene. 4 other Ethereals spawned in the room. They killed my mc'd muton. I had all my soldiers outside the room, and just kept setting them to overwatch until an Ethereal came into view. It took 3 soldiers firing at it to kill it. It must have been the leader because as soon as it died, everything else despawned, and triggered the ending and final cut scene.

One big thing that was missing in the game, imho, was free-aiming. I liked being able to shoot out walls in the original game. Then you could also shoot mc'd aliens. All in all, it was a short, but enjoyable game. Time to restore, and finish off some more achievements ;)

Once everyone is up to Colonel it actually gets very easy../ I haven't had a guy die since one of the first 5 missions or so.

Still cool though! I like how the story keeps things going just enough to keep it from being repetetive

I am pretty close to the end I think. I only had 1 veteran with abilities, so I am bringing up rookies to build up a crew of psychos :)

I beat the game a few nites ago too. I agree with what Presto said. In the old xcom games, I would blow up walls or objects too to give me line of sight if I needed to. Speaking of turn based strategy games, you should check out an older game called silent storm if you haven't already.

I am at the end level, but I am actually considering starting again at hardcore difficulty without saves :considered:

I am a few months into classic, it is more fun IMO. Much harder. You really have to be more defensive. Finding it tough to get enough satellites in the air, and already let one UFO escape. At normal I was so overpowered, now I feel weak :okay:
