Hi guys. So I drive a accord hybrid 2007 V6 sedan. Recently I started to hear this metal scraping sound coming from the outside. It kinda sounds like if a metal sheet is dragged alone the pavement. It's probably either the brakes or the rotors that need changing. I believe its the rotors as the sound comes out even when I am stepping on the gas. It also comes out when my car is turning right or titling the the right. It comes out at intervals basically.

Last time I check my brakes was ~5500km ago and I had about 40%. I'm going to change my brakes for sure but wondering about the rotors.

My main question is do you know if its the brakes or the rotors? Where's a good place in either Vancouver/Richmond/Burnaby that do honest services like these for the lowest price? I understand these are easy to change and honestly I would do it myself but my car is special in the sense that I need the hydraulic lifts mechanics have and I can't use my own portable ones.

Also and recommendations on what brake pads or rotors? I know its alot of questions so please bare with me. Thanks!

sounds like your breaks are low. probably need new pads. just make sure the rotors do not have scrape marks on it and you're good to go.

for pads i would recommend any Honda/Acura to get aggressive pads, may be a little bit more expensive but a lot better for the brakes in the long run, i believe its called EBC Green Stuff.

do it yourself... literally 20 minutes a wheel, its very easy. if you don't know how to, grab a friend that does, tell him to show you.

most disc brakes are the same so you can use the new skill for every car you get!

When I jack up my car with my portable hydraulic jack, I don't have an area where I can insert my jack stands. It leaves me with enough room to insert one thing at a time. The way I do my oil and transmission fluid change is through a ramp which I had to buy again. Btw I checked out the EBC greenstuff brakes and the reviews are good. They are organic pads eh? Honestly I don't mind paying an extra few $$ for good brakes. Have you tried the website autoanything? Are they reliable?

my suggestion is order brakes from rockauto, and ship it to point roberts. rockauto has great prices. with forums these days, u can find diy with pictures for nearly all jobs on a vehicle. just log on to the forum pertaining to honda accords and u should b able to find instructions for brake jobs.

On my '03, I use the area where the lower control arm bolts up to the frame.

Alternatively, there are two proper jacking points on both the front and rear of the car when you use an actual floor jack.

He had 40% remaining, 5500kms ago. You read that wrong.

Sounds like the squealer on the pad is starting to touch, its a warning that your pads are almost done.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. I asked Canadian Tire for pricing on changing and they said they prefer not to do hybrid cars (which is what I have) because its alot different. He told me to bring it in to a honda service center. Any thoughts?

Just take it to place that can do brakes. There's nothing funky about brakes on hybrids, except that they'll last a lot longer than a conventional vehicle's brakes. And I agree, you dodged a bullet by not taking it to Canadian Tire. They're all slackers there.

Also, if you look carefully on this certain search engine I believe you may be able to find a haynes manual or a factory repair manual for your year accord

It doesn't look different. I called Honda just in case and they said there's no extra tricks. I called a few other auto places for quotes and they said the same thing.

Yea I might look around. How do you manage to put both the hydro jack and jack stand together? My hydro jack just gets in the way of my jack stand. I guess this is good reference for the future. Yea to do my fluid changes I bought a ramp so thats been doing me pretty well.

If your brakes are already making a metal on metal scraping sound its quite possible that your pads have worn down too far and damaged your rotors. Rotors arent cheap for your car so I suggest you have them looked at immediately. Our shop is in Richmond if you'd like me to look at them and let you know whats going on. I can give you an estimate for repair as well.

^^Actually rotors are cheap, cheaper than getting them resurfaced.

^ it actually depends. You can get cheap rotors (ie under $100 for all 4) but as the name implies they are very cheap and warp quite easily. I've dealt with them on a few of our older cars and IMO unless you want to replace them every 18 months just spend a little more and get something thats good quality

Thats true, considering stopping is pretty important :fullofwin:. I wouldn't skimp on brakes or pads and not sure on the price of machining them but im guessing at least $50 each.

Brakemotive rotors/pads are a great option though. Heard good things and great product for the price.

I dont know about the newer honda rotors, but damn.....the for the older ones
those seized screws that hold the rotors in place are a PITA

if you don't feel like doing it yourself (hey, some people are just not cut for it).

might I recommend gold wrench automotives, in north vancouver.

They give honest advice, good prices, and can machine your rotors if they are still within thickness.

Usually the front rotors on a honda accord are quite thick, and heavy. So they might be a little costly.

To be honest I replace my rotors everytime with pad replacements just to eliminate any noise you might get down the road.

I wouldn't recommend making rotors either because it could make them more prone since they are designed to be a certain thickness.

As per warping. This is from a member from a different forum who seems to be more familiar with how brakes work.


Rotors don't warp if they're installed correctly... (course with the timing in this case, perhaps they weren't)

Pedal vibration that's usually mis-diagnosed as warped rotors is uneven pad transfer but if you do a proper bed in, which you said you were doing at the time, you avoid that issue-

Depends, if you go with OEM expect to pay that much, but there are aftermarket rotors out there.

But depends on what the customer wants I guess.

Got rotors in the states from autozone for mama's corolla for something like 40 bucks a piece :lawl:

Heck, OEM rotors for my Civic were $50 apiece from the states. And my last pair lasted for over a decade :lol
