i wonder if tarantino's movie will still have the same finesse now that his editor died

anyways i'm thinking of picking this set up...excellent box art but too bad kill bill vol 3 can't be a part of it.

I saw this preview before watching Skyfall last Friday. It looks pretty sweet! I wonder if its similar or a remake of the original that came out in 1966. But I'm not even sure if the two films are even related. According to Wikipedia Django Unchained is inspired by the 1966 film, with Franco Nero having a cameo.

IMDB says this movie comes out Christmas day of 2012 but the preview that I saw in the theatres said January 2013. Either or this film looks pretty sweet. Should be good!

It's a loooong movie.

My friend also pointed out that it's kinda weird sitting in a theatre without a single black person, and laughing when every other word is "nigger" in the movie.

He didn't really like it. I loved it, but it was very long. Christoph Walz makes the movie, again.

I saw a Jamie Fox interview when he said it was very hard for him to play a slave in the roll and hear that word so often. Leonardo also had a really hard time saying it to Jamie and SJ made some kind of joke about it which made things easier.

I didn't like the movie, it's way too long and felt it overstayed its welcome. I think it could have easily been 20min shorter.

That being said, I loved inglorious basterds.

Some parts of the movie were unnecessary and could of been edited out but it was a really entertaining movie. Christoph Waltz... what an amazing character

I really did not like how the ending dragged on, but you do need to realise Tarantino needed to complete the Siegfried and Brumhilda storyline.

i enjoyed it gave it a 7/10

but, as some have stated, some parts could have been edited out

Im a fan of Christoph Waltz, I always get him confused with Lambert Wilson though (french guy from matrix) lol

I thought it was a great movie and a perfect length if you are watching it at home which I was. Jamie Foxx is such a great actor and no questions asked Waltz made that movie.

it was either life of Pi or Djanjo

to be honest, Life of Pi was a much better movie now that I've seen both.

Djanjo went thru a LOT of editing and they cut out TONS of useless parts, eg// the girl with the bandanna's face etc.

it was entertaining, I thought Waltz was great, but he wasn't epic, the script gave him the character but i thought DiCrap was much better. Waltz was epic in Ing. Bastards and not even close in this one.

it was long and it wasn't bad. Sam Jackson did a pretty good job I thought.

OH, did NOT like the ending with Waltz, i could understand, but did NOT like the ending.

wow christoph waltz got the oscar nod over di caprio. i thought di caprio overshadowed waltz in every scene. the dinner scene was acted out so greatly and that blood on his hand... ya, that was real.

good movie, but i thought it was a bit long and the end was bit rushed.

murd0c
01-10-2013, 03:15 PM
I think it's because Waltz had a way bigger role. Leo wasn't on the screen all that much but he did do a steller job.

di caprio lost out due to his role he played the slave killing naughty boy not the happy slave freeing good guy.

HOLY FUCK

I did not want that movie to end :tears:

Even though the theatre experience was SHIT, I just did not want it to end. At one point, I almost jumped out of my seat and cheered! I know people do this at movies when they are in a crowd of other people doing it, but there were like 10 people in the theatre...

Fuck I want to go see it again tomorrow!

At first I wondered if this was of my favourite QT movie after Pulp Fiction.. thing is, how can I say it's better than Reservoir Dogs? Or Kill Bill 1 or 2? I guess the answer is, they are ALL my favourite QT movies.

Obviously 10/10

I just saw it a second time, while on vacation in Paris, everyone was clapping at the end, and I'm sure the translations are never as good as understanding the full meaning
of the script in english.

Yesterday, 1st time I watched it by myself cause my girl wanted to go shopping. 2nd time, just earlier, I forced her to come with me, she doesn't speak a lick of english but even she liked the movie. Just the acting and cinematography alone were spectacular to her.

I agree with some of you, DiCaprio was fuckin' awesome. I felt the intensity in that dining room scene. I almost saw it again just for that scene. It was crazy good. Not surprisingly, I think he made the movie.

Jamie Foxx was awesome throughout the movie, especially when he's being cocky to DiCaprio. He took such pride to be the Eric Bana of Munich.

Waltz, he was good, but not as epic as his role in Inglorious Basturds, to me, he didn't MAKE the movie, just provided a good supporting role for Jamie. I dunno, it was mixed for me, it was weird seeing him play a good guy, his smooth talking was good, but it didn't enthrall me as it did before.

And Jackson, he seemed a little bit out of place in this movie..

This movie was great, no doubt about it, but I agree there were some scenes that didn't need to be there. At the very end when he's bout to ride off, there was a flash, and the Dr. stated "You'll be known as the fastest gun in the south, or something along those lines"
What the hell was that about?

Overall, the usual greatness of Tarantino movies: witty dialogue, style, revenge themes that uplift you, and most important of all, remarkable acting from an all-star cast.

Even if you're not a QT fan, go check it out, I only know about the slavery period thru educational means, but this movie depicts it very vividly.

Quentin has worked with nothing but the best of the best, so I'm eager to know who he'll be working with on his next project.

Hats off to my man Quentin

Not sure if I want to bother with this one.... I like DiCaprio, but not a fan of Quentin Tarantino at all.
I thought Kill Bill was ridiculous, and Inglorious Basterds was one of the worst (or maybe overrated) movie I've seen in the past 5 years.

Guess I just don't connect with his humor or dialogue.
Watching Inglorious Basterds reminded me when I was forced to read a Charles Dickens novel in highschool...

I know his movies are quite successful in the box office, so I must be the exception.

I'm all for the 'to each their own' philosophy, and thnk it's good that everyone has different tastes.

But when I try to put myself in the head of someone who thinks all QT movies are bad, I just can't comprehend it. When someone says they thought Django was "too long" or "boring" or "drawn out"... what it must be like to see the world through your eyes... Again to each their own, but I kind of feel sorry for you for not being able to enjoy it...

Leonardo DiCaprio cut his hand while the cameras were rolling on the set of "Django Unchained" and kept moving through the scene, never breaking character. His real-life bloodied hand made it into the final version of the film, The Weinstein Company has confirmed with Yahoo! Movies.

The roles that come to mind for Dicaprio are

Basketball Diaries
Titanic
The Beach
The Aviator
Gangs of New York
Shutter Island
Inception
The Departed
Django Unchained

I can't see a single thread between any of those roles (maybe his acting in The Beach was similar to Titanic, but you can understand why, these are two of his popcorn films though I really liked The Beach)... guy is extremely versatile...

Some of the most famous actors tend to do the same type of character over and over (look at Mark Wahlberg who came up around the same time as Leo), but I don't see it here...

That's my really long winded way of saying I completely disagree with you :)

This sums up what I was gonna say. Also, surprised no one mentioned 'catch me if you can'. Come to think about it, Leo is a pretty good actor.

Other then kill bill and reservoir dogs, I'm not a huge QT fan. Fell asleep in ingloriuos bastards, and although I was kinda young, didn't enjoy pulp fiction all that much. I should watch it again.

I can see though how versatile QT is though. All of his movies have a different setting and theme based around them. I'm gonna watch Django Unchained, wasn't planning to though.

Finally got around to watching this movie. Let me first say I'm not a big QT fan. I understand his work but his editing style and camera work grates on my nerves a fair bit, at least in some of his older flicks. I'm also not a big fan of the constant flashbacks he loves to throw into many of his movies. That said, I gotta say Django was pretty damn good. Christopher Waltz, Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio all played their roles very well. Great use of Blazing Saddle-esque comedy mixed in with the rest of the dramatic scenes. There were plenty of quite obviously QT action scenes (read: over the top, super bloody, puts Jerry Bruckheimer to shame :lol ) but I think they all fit the overall movie. Well, except for Laura-Lee's flying-through-the-door-after-being-shot-in-the-side death. That one simply made me facepalm and groan.

All that said, I'm a little disappointed with myself that it took so long to watch this one. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

9/10
