: Which is better, More ram at slower speeds or less ram at faster speeds?

so for everyday uses (slightly more gaming and with some web/office and watching movies)

im was looking at maxing out my ram slots at 32gb ddr3 1600mhz or going 16gb at 2133mhz

On current CPUs, the difference between 2133 and 1600 is very small, especially at stock speeds.

On the other hand, 16GB is also sufficient

But if you are going to benefit from one, I would go with more ram. You could even set up a RamDisk if you wanted to

more ram is better.. but what are you running that requires 32GB??

Can't think of a game where you'll need 16GB for it. In most cases, even 8GB is plenty. As another fellow has pointed out, your $$ is better spent on a graphics card if you are trying to maximize your gaming performance.

Assuming that you are running on Vista/Win7, you can easily monitor how much RAM you are using with desktop gadgets (http://addgadgets.com/). Unless you start running out of real physical RAM and notice the PC swapping stuff to/from the HDD when you switch between programs, there is no benefit in having more RAM sitting around doing nothing.

When I am not playing games on the PC, most of the time I am only using around 2GB's worth of RAM.

better off investing in graphic card, cpu, and ssd (for faster load times...etc)

Unless you're using 64-bit software or running multiple 32-bit applications at the same time, even 8 GB is quite sufficient.

Nope. Should not affect their lifespan at all.

But I never understood the point of using RAM disk in a home PC environment. In the past, the price-performance ratio was too unfavourable. And now, we have so much RAM and affordable SSD that I don't even know why we still need RAM disks.

Home PC with ram disk is like a 1000hp camry with stock suspension and wheels, very impractical.

why not...it's far from being used to its potential just for typical system usage
