Andriod noob question?

I have recently got a S3 from rogers.

I downloaded a task manager app (GO task manager)

It has a meter saying 0.9gig / 1.58gig ( free/ total memory)

IT also has a box showing all the apps running in the background (which is alot).

I restarted phone and it still shows I have over 12 apps running in the background, even after i use the task manager to clean them all, they all automatically reappeared in 10 sec.

Is this normal for android to have so much shit running the background, even the apps that I never use , like the Rogers bloatware ( live TV, rogers 1, and visual voicemail?).. Others like the movie player, google+, chaton, playstore, game center, music player.. None of them I use and I dont even turn them on myself...

Can someone explain if I can permanatly shut them down or free the RAM without having to force stop using task manager every minute.

Last thing, I thought the S3 has 2gb ram, why does it only show 1.5g

Lots of programs run in the background, especially if they're set up to push data or update automatically.

the phone is still fast, some occassional animation lag like going into app drawer, but coming from Sony Xperia Arc , this IS super fast, Arc was a piece of shit, lag-tastic junk

the gotask manager can slow your phone down. Why do you need to download when you can do the same with holding the home button. Task manager clear ram.

My S3 does the same shit but I think it's normal. Apparently we need to root our phones to solve these issues.

That's where custom roms comes into play my friend. At this point there should be quite a few for you to chose from. Otherwise you can flash the stock G3 rom if you can find it. Keep in mind, it might, the rom may not know what the internet settings are off the bat, so you will have to manually input them when you flash your phone.

root phone, use Titanium Backup and "freeze" or remove the offending apps.

1. Get rid of your task manager - it does my harm than good.
2. Like I said Task Manager's are bad, they cannot permanently kill apps because the Android system is designed to re-start it. Only way to remove those apps is to uninstall them. Althoughsome apps may be shown as running in the background, they are cached if not used. So it doesn't consume much battery life.
3. It is not normal for Android OS to be running so much bloatware. Your remedy is to flash it with a custom rom, or delete it manually (assuming you know what to delete) with Titanium Backup.
4. 2GB Ram is whats installed, 1.5G is whats useable. It's normal. Even computers are like that.

If you can't even delete it then you need to flash it with a custom rom like CM10. Mind you, it voids your warranty.

The s3 has a built task manager like the guy above just hold down the main button. In general android is capable of managing memory on its own and it's regarded as a bad idea to force close apps.
