That's actor James Badge Dale ("The Departed," TV's "24") as Eric Savin, one of the villains of "Iron Man 3." In the comics, Savin is a soldier who is gravely injured in a land mine explosion and reanimated as a cyborg called Coldblood-7. It looks like the movie merges his character from the books with the Iron Patriot armor (which was worn by Spider-Man's nemesis Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin).

You can spot in the photo that Dale only wears the armored suit from the waist up. He wears motion capture sensors on his legs, which will be used to create computer.

Disney and Marvel have also announced that Iron Man 3 (arriving May 3rd, 2013) and Thor: The Dark World (November 8th, 2013) that both films will arrive in 3D. No word on whether Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4th, 2014) will get a 3D release, but since the first film threw Cap's shield into the third dimension, I'd say it's pretty much a guarantee. It will make the box office numbers bigger around the world, and after the storm of cash that erupted from The Avengers, it just makes sense.

I'm not a big fan either, I find that you miss quite a bit of whatever is going on in the background because so much focus is put on one thing in the foreground. Ruins the "atmosphere" of the scenes.

China to Get Its Own Special Version of Iron Man 3

n this era of director’s cuts, extra DVD footage and “special editions,” it’s not exactly a big deal for there to be multiple versions or lengths across its different theater and home viewing iterations. Far less common, however, is a studio making two different versions of the same movie for its theater releases in different countries, which is about to happen when Iron Man 3 opens in the U.S. and China on May 3.

In an announcement from Marvel Studios today, the company revealed that the Chinese version of the movie will include “significant Chinese elements” created in co-operation with Chinese media company DMG, which is distributing the movie in China.

“Both versions of the film include Iron Man 3 footage filmed in Beijing in December,” the announcement explains, but “the Chinese version of the film will also feature a special appearance of China’s top actress, Fan Bingbing, and will offer specially prepared bonus footage made exclusively for the Chinese audience.”

This is another example of American studios becoming more aware of the importance of China as a foreign market, and with good reason; last year, China became the second largest international market for U.S.-made movies (behind Japan) after box office receipts rose 31 percent to around $2.75 billion, and is expected to overtake the U.S. market by 2020.

While the Iron Man 3 variant edition is one of the most extreme changes made by U.S. moviemakers to date for Chinese releases, it’s far from the only one; the Chinese version of last year’s Looper similarly featured additional scenes in Shanghai, a location replaced with Paris in the version released in the rest of the world.

Similarly, scenes that were deemed potentially offensive to Chinese viewers from Men in Black 3 were removed from the Chinese edition of the movie, and in a larger example of studio caution, MGM chose to digitally alter the nationality of the invaders in their remake of Red Dawn from Chinese to North Korean for all editions of the movie, through fear of alienating a potential audience.

When the news broke of the MGM alternation last year, one Hollywood producer spoke anonymously to the L.A. Times, calling it “a clear-cut case – maybe the first I can think of in the history of Hollywood – where a foreign country’s censorship board deeply affects what we produce.” It may have been the first, but as today’s Iron Man 3 news suggests, it may not be the last as American studios try to become far more conscious of where the money is these days.

I would say slightly better, but the comedy got a little out of hand sometimes. And it felt more like Lethal Iron 3: Diehard Batteries rather than Iron Man. The one-liners were good, but it didn't quite have the superhero Marvel feel, if you know what I mean.

WTF HAPPENED TO THE MANDARIN BEING THE MAIN VILLAN. I was so choked when it was revealed that the (real) Mandarin wasn't going to be a the film. I was already suspecting it since there really wasn't an origin story at the beginning but I thought it was going to be at least a weak terrorist origin for the Mandarin. At least Ben Kingsley was hilarious.

The biggest problem for me wasn't even the Mandarin. There were so many other just plain stupid things in that movie.
1. He clearly has a whole Iron army below him but decides to use the PoS Mark 42 and almost dies in the helicopter attack.
2. Why does the extremis make Pepper master Shinobie?
3. Why would the Mark 42 run out of power when it is POWERED BY HIS CHEST REACTOR!!!
4. Why didn't he remove the arc reactor in the second movie when it was KILLING him?
5. It was Christmas time -_-
6. Iron Patriot did nothing the whole movie
7. Gods and Aliens yet Tony somehow manages to create 42 pieces of crap
8. He slides 20 feet on METAL GRATING during his Guy Pierce fight
9. So these Ex US Military heroes are now evil because?.....

This is a spoiler worthy post btw. Not like you should come into a thread when the movie is already out anyways.

I can explain this one. I'm pretty sure Tony forgot about that night with Maya and Killian where he fixed the Extremis formula. From what I remember at the ending, Tony had use the perfected forumla on himself before getting the shrapnel out.

One thing that really irked me besides most of the points in your post was how Killian came back alive from a massive explosion from the suit, but dies from Pepper throwing a missile at him. What's the difference?

I don't mean to be a dick about it, but if you going to throw around claims about how the Marvel Universe works, perhaps you should do a bit of background studying first.


The Marvel gurus seem to know what they are doing. The Marvel Universe is going to be like DBZ pretty soon, power levels won't mean a damn thing.
The heroes' powers are going to keep growing, exponentially so.
If you think Thor is god-like now, wait until Disney can wrestle back the X-Men/Mutant rights back from Fox. Consider Omega-level mutants.


If you're complaining about breathing fire, how will you cope with Rachel Summers, Franklin Richards, Apocalypse and Nate Grey?

If you are complaining about breathing fire in a super hero movie, then you're missing the big picture.
There are obviously plot holes, but consider the wit, pacing and action vs the negatives. I would argue the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

1: It's a toy. He's playing with his most recent one (it's a beta) because that's what he's working on now. His armours are down below and since 42 is the only one that can be remotely controlled (or assembled) he's just sort of...got it nearby.
2: Extremis (original source) enhances you and makes you the biggest, best, strongest that you can be. It's the new Super-Soldier serum that made the Cap.
3: It seems as though none of them are powered by his reactor anymore--they all had independent power sources, enough so that they were able to be remotely controlled and fight without Tony being in them.
4: IIRC because the shrapnel (at the time) couldn't be removed and so the magnet was an absolute necessity for him not to die. Extremis helped him heal better/faster so that he wouldn't die as they pulled it out.
5: So you don't complain about movies set in the summer during December, but you complain about movies set in December in May? My guess is that the movie was originally set for a holiday release but got pushed back (Hobbit?)
6: He works for the government, he's a soldier. Army guys do what they're told.
7: Pieces of crap relative to superhuman nightmares that have never been seen before.
8: Come back and talk to me after you've watched any Die Hard movie. It's called "Suspension of disbelief"
9: Because they were thrown to the wayside and essentially told "we can't use you any more because you're wounded" (it's a real thing for a lot of soldiers) and are now incredibly grateful to the man/organization that has given them a purpose and reason to live again. Oh, and also their bodies even better than at their peak.
10: That was a bit messed up. My thoughts: the original suit that was stolen was not tuned to Tony. Rhodey "borrowed" it and then it started to get used by the gov't. AIM upgrades added some software allowing overrides (ie: remote flying to kidnap the president). The only part that made no sense to me is how Rhodes got the suit working again when the prez was strung up. How could he not have done that when they were trying to unseal the suit?

I watched it again hoping I'd like it the second time around but I didn't.

I kept thinking why his all his suits were suddenly so crappy. There's no consistency in the movies. In the first 3 movies his suits were practically indestructible. Especially in avengers when he takes on an entire army and was left with nothing but scratches on his suit.

I appreciated Ben kingsley's performance as both the mandarin and Trevor but I still wanted to see a real straight up bad ass mandarin. The first half before the twist was nothing more than a tease for me. He's such a great actor and played the part as the terrorist so well that I felt he could have been a memorable movie villain for a long time (ie. joker, magneto, maybe bane).

I've read extremis and loved it but I didn't feel like it translated well to screen.

Also didn't like how convenient getting in and out of the suits were. They opened from the front AND back. It wasn't too long ago (avengers) where he still needed robotic arms to take it apart piece by piece. He'll even the army was able to give the iron patriot the same technology.

Also how did the us army not know that Rhodes was taken captive? You would think they would be constantly monitoring his missions and hearing everything that goes on.

I felt they put way too many comic relief moments. Everyone including the henchmens would make a joke of some sort. It felt like a Jude apatow movie...but not nearly as funny. It had some good moments though.
