Chevy Unveils New LT1 Small-Block V8 (http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/corvette/2014/general-motors-unveils-new-generation-small-block-v8.html)

http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/chevrolet/corvette/2014/ns/2014_chevrolet_corvette_eng_ns_10241210_717.jpg

The new LT1 for the 2014 Corvette is projected to develop 450 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 450 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm versus the max 436 hp at 5,900 rpm and 428 lb-ft at 4,600 rpm available from the current Corvette's LS3 V8. The fuel cutoff is at 6,600 rpm. Chevrolet said flatly that the latest LT1 is "the most powerful and efficient standard engine ever" in the Corvette's six-decade history.

Although GM admits the LT1 is heavier than the outgoing LS3, the new small-block is nearly 40 pounds lighter than BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8.

Despite the power and torque upgrades from the new LT1, fuel economy for the 2014 Corvette is expected to remain essentially the same as the current base Corvette's 15 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for the manual transmission.

Pretty disappointing if you ask me. With DI, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation, you'd expect more gains in power and/or fuel efficiency. It sounds like they just maintained status quo.

I'm a Viper fan boy so screw Vettes!:fullofwin:

It's the same thing with there trucks, The N/A Chevy engines just aren't getting THAT much better. I mean comon. 14HP and it weighs MORE? You could do that with an exhaust on an ls3...

moar shitting on the vett which holds one of the fastest lap times on the nurburgring. Pretty good for a pushrod engine with overhead valves.

Is a pushrod a disadvantage?

Depends on who you're asking. Its older tech, but a disadvantage I don't think so. But many people use that in a negative connotation towards the vette, lol.

OHV engines are hard to rev high

I don't think they were being negative. You interpreted as negative.
Vexor was asking if the Vette still got pushrod, and skyxx said yes.

The Vette is cheap, got leaf springs, made of plastic, still got pushrod(???), etc...

However it is still fast enough to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini.

that is because it still needs a cam to actuate the pushrods to move the rockers to open valves.

yeah I never looked into how OHV engines work.

I know for RC cars with 4 strokes engine (perhaps lawmowers?) they're gear driven so I kinda assumed the same.

They use an OHV pushrod motor because it keeps the weight much lower. Same reason they use leaf springs, lower and lighter.

GM's R&D department is way, way bigger than ferrari's. It's not like they don't know how to use more modern tech, they choose not to. For good reasons.

They build a car with 80% of the performance, at 20% of the price with way more reliability and a fraction of the cost of ownership. That is bloody impressive.

Hard to tell from this angle but the attachment on the hood looks like the hood spoilers that people used to attach to late 90s/early 00s Celicas and Preludes.:suspicious:

I wouldn't say the Vette only has 80% of the performance of other super cars, at least, not for the C6. In fact, I'd say that performance-wise, other than the crappy pos OEM seat, it is every bit as good as the other super cars out there.

The Vette is bloody impressive.
