Spent the whole night trying to figure out how to access my laptop's wired internet connection from my Samsung Nexus S cell phone. Please help.

Laptop's Specs:
Sony Vaio vgn sz650N
upgraded to Windows 7 Professional
Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (Driver 13.4.0.139)

Cell phone specs:
Samsung Nexus S (I9020AUCKJ1)
Android 4.1.1


Attempts

1. use Windows 7 ad hoc to create an ad hoc network. Turn on internet sharing for ethernet adapter.
fail -> androids cannot detect nor use ad hoc networks

2. use Connectify to create a virtual access point (AP)
fail -> connectify has abandoned supporting Intel Wifi Link 4965

3. use other third party software to create a softAP
fail -> either software did not work or cell phone still can't detect any network

4. force create a Microsoft virtual network adpater by:
*run* cmd.exe as administrator
*enter* netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Samsung key=12345abcde
-The hosted network mode has been set to allow.
-The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
-The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed
*enter* netsh wlan stat hostednetwork
-The hosted network couldn't be started.
-The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.
fail-> I don't know why this failed. Could someone please explain?

hmm. problem found.

ran cmd window as adminstrator and typed: netsh wlan show drivers

just to realized my driver doesn't have hosted network support.

Is there anything I can do at this stage?

I think I have the latest updated driver for my wireless adapter..

Why not just buy a router? They're so cheap these days and you can use it with other devices without needing to keep your laptop on or mess with settings.
