My friend is getting married next year, she wants a hall where the catering and decorations are NOT a part of the package.
Essentially she just wants a bare hall to rent to suit what she has planned.

Any suggestions?

contact Lisa at Shing Weddings. She's a wedding planner, but i'm sure she can make some suggestions.

Was recently at a wedding at Performance Works (http://performanceworks.ca/pw/home.htm) on Granville Island.

Bride and groom hired their own catering company, bartenders, DJs and were allowed to setup their own decorations.

Which hall is it? Did you have a specific one in mind?

Have you considered picking up the phone and giving them a call directly?

These halls are used quite often for weddings:

- Heritage Hall on Main & 15th.

- Ukranian Cultural Centre

- The Metro: The Metro Wedding Hall: Wedding Receptions Halls, weddings, wedding receptions locations - Vancouver (http://www.themetrohall.com/wedding_reception_hall.html)

Some churches may do that as well.
