Quarter panel scrape. Worth getting fixed? Or how can I fix/hide it myself? PIC

My sister somehow backed into a concrete pillar in the Metrotown parking lot a few months ago and we've never really gotten around to doing anything about the damage because it's not so bad. How much do you think it would cost for this to be fixed professionally? Or how would you suggest I fix/hide this myself? (if possible). Thanks in advance.

Edit: It's a 2008 BMW 323i
Looks like it'll need to be repainted. Hit up Boyd Autobody, highly recommend them and they're an RS sponsor.

I know, right? I could barely see the damage. I thought it was just a reflection.
You should just call ICBC and get them to fix it.

How about vinyl wrap the whole car by yourself

its not bad now.. but if you keep holding off, depending how deep, and with winter rolling around, it could rust if not treated...
You should just call ICBC and get them to fix it.
If he doesnt mind his rates going up.. I would hold off, If you can pay if off yourself, dont bother with ICBC...

Looks like it needs more then just a repaint. The crease around the wheel looks uneven from the middle of the arch to the door.

I'm not gonna lie, i thought about it :p
And yeah, some of the scratches are almost, if not already, reaching the metal. I'd like to avoid dealing with ICBC if possible...

ya that looks like a simple fix
just needs a little body work, that spot would get painted, and blend the clear coat on that pannel.

sand it down with a sanding block with 180 grit till the scratches are as blended in as possible put some filler for the deep scratches then sand that down, work your way to 320 grit then blend in the paint, if its almost down to the metal or down to the metal you cannot just buff it out lol.
Like mentioned above it will rust slowly, at the very least sand it down then spray etching primer on it so it wont rust. wont look nice but will save you time and money down the road once you get around to fixing it. (its hard to tell how bad it is by that pic though)

Just drive over to Canadian tire and buy a can of spray paint that matches the best. Also a can of clear coat if u want it to look good. Its a easy fix and it will look good as new when finished.

+1
Don't fix it yourself, it's too big of a project to do, repaint, dent on the wheel arch etc...

don't be like the guy who drove the supercar and put white tape on the dents lol
take it to a couple bodyshops to get an estimate and before we get snow/ice conditions cuz many accidents will cause you to wait longer to fix

who cares about the minor surface rust...let the bodyshop take care of it.
If your paying cash...i'll take it to a small shop.
These big corporate bodyshops don't like to give deals and prefer insurance work only.

OP If you want a quick fix just go get a touch up pen from BMW ($10-$20)
First wash the area with some kitchen detergent to get rid of the grease/crap from the paint.
Get a pencil (old school yellow pencil) and some sand paper. Cut the sand paper to the same size as the eraser on the pencil, glue sand paper to the eraser. Use this to take off any rust/contaminants from the scratches and fill it in with the touch up pen. If it is a a really small scratch, get a tooth pick and dump some of the paint on a bottle cap or something and 'paint' the scratch with a tooth pick.
Obviously not a 'looks like new!' fix but it'll definitely look a lot better + won't rust. Plus, you don't have to be in a rush to fix it if its your DD, just do it when you have some downtime
I've used the above method for rock chips and they come out looking really nice, but eventually I get the hood repainted anyways.

just bring it to a few shops to get it quoted. That looks like it'll rust if you wait!

320 is way too course a grit to paint over.
OP, don't fix it yourself, it'll look like ass no matter how good a job you do. Without the proper equipment, technique and materials, it's too much trouble for a result that will look worse than the actual scratch. You drive a bmw, don't cheap out and get it fixed at a shop. Probably run you around 500 for repair and paint+blend 2 panels.

^ maybe OP doesn't have time or the funds right now, i see no harm in a temporary fix just to protect it from rusting + make it a little more aesthetically pleasing

Save yourself the headache and trouble. It wont hurt to take it to a body shop for an estimate.

doesnt hurt to do an estimate
because if you do it yourself now and it starts to fuck up, you'll be saying "damn, why didn't I just pay them $XXX to fix it"

Can't really tell the extents of the damage, but I recently just had something like that fixed for my car, but it was just paint. There was no dent.
Fixed it at FasTrack Autobody, would suggest going in to getting an estimate done. Can't hurt since they're free.
It'll look like ass unless you get it fixed professionally.
Damage looks to be on at least two panels. My limited knowledge of automotive repair tells me they may have to repaint some of the panels around it as well so the automotive painter can blend the new paint with the original.

I think I'm going to go around to get a few quotes and if it's too expensive for me then I'll just use some touch-up paint and primer and live with it. :okay:

you drive a BMW, and are complaining about the cost to repair it properly?
Have you even tried to get an estimate from a reputable shop yet?

Gawd dayum...he starting to sound like a broken record...every reply has been telling him he's got no choice but to get a free estimate and fix it properly...it's a BMW.
Just ask your mother to pay for it and never let ur sister drive it again.

you should definitely get an estimate soon just to know the ballpark on fixing the car.
in the mean time, go get some touch up paint from the dealer, clean the scratched up surface well, and apply the touch up paint. it well help for appearance and also rust protection.
This should hold you through the winter. Just in case (i hope not) there are any more oops'. Once spring time comes around, think more seriously about having the car properly repaired.

It shouldn't rust that quickly anyways. Even if it did - it would only be on the surface, and would be cleaned up if/when the panel is repaired/painted anyways. Most, if not all new vehicles have an e-coat applied to the inner and outer surface of panels to inhibit rust.
I swear I didn't do it!

Good try, but do you like to read the news and take everything at point blank?
There is a difference between not being able to afford insurance and forgetting to buy insurance. If you read the actual thread, someone who knew the guy posted that the owner actually just forgot to purchase insurance. The news is notorious for sensationalistic reporting and attention grabbing headlines.
And, there is a big difference between someone being able to afford a 323i and a Aventador on price, maintenance, depreciation, and gas. If you can afford a Lamborghini you are already in an exclusive class, not to mention this is an Aventador (LP700). I had a 2007 323i back in the day and I recall paying over 44,000. They can be had today used for under 15k. Go check your local lambo dealer pricing and that's probably the cost of an oil change :spin:

personally I think the "forgot to buy insurance" is a cover up. the Lamborghini dealership would have surely offered to sell that guy insurance on the spot, at time of vehicle delivery.
to the OP, get some quotes they're free. make your sister pay the repairs, or at least majority of it (60%+).
I think he meant he forgot to renew it lol

I doubt local or provincial laws even allow one to drive the car off the lot without insurance. The dealer might even be held liable if there is an accident.
Like MB pointed out, probably a renewal.

you clearly didnt understand my sense of humor, was just trying to say rich people are not all generous, infact some are so cheap you cant even imagine..
^I missed your sarcasm - can be difficult to detect without facial expressions.
I agree, it goes both ways for both rich and poor: generous and cheap.
Honestly, I think the repair here is going to be around ~$1000 so it isn't going to break the bank and if you choose to drive a BMW, you should be able to afford it or why buy one in the first place?

doesn't insurance typically last you a year?
Aventador hasn't been in town for that long yet

You don't have to buy a full year. Might not be the same at every dealer, but I've purchased 3 day insurance before and then driven off the lot.
-1-15 days
-3-7 months
-8-11 months
-1 year.

Anything to do with the quarter panel will be costly to fix. Honestly, I would just leave it and let it be. Or if you want to ghetto it, you can always just bondo and paint it yourself. The dent doesn't look that deep.
