How hard are these to install on your own? i have a 2005 F150 automatic and have been looking into getting one, seems like both futureshop and visions occasionally have deals for $199 installed or even cheaper sometimes

any tips or advice on autostarters?

There's a Compustar in the classifieds for $80 if you're DIY.. I was gonna pick it up but I don't really need it.

You should get something with alarm and starter so you don't have to carry two remotes all the time. If you only get the starter, it's cheaper but you'll have to carry two remotes

I have a full-blown compustar two-way in my car, the previous owner spent around $500+ on it. With the remote start, especially around this time of year, it could make your life more convenient, and stepping into a warm car in the morning is just :sweetjesus:

I'd recommend you get the guys at futureshop/best buy to do it, I wouldn't rely on my own workmanship for these kind of things lol

You might need to buy a immobilizer bypass too, so factor that into the price.

I gave N-Motion a shot wasn't really happy with the service when I got an autostart installed on the Corolla.

Need to get one installed on the S2K so just waiting for sounds good to have a wicked sale. I hear nothing but A+++ reviews from their customers.

Please god dont go get it done at future shop!!!! ive had multiple compustar pro alarms with remote start done at soundsgood and they are great and hook everyone up but more importantly they back up there work if anything goes wrong which it never does!

Its definitely doable to diy if you are capable of, but with compustar brands, it looks to me a little more difficult than your average basic alarms. I would rather pay someone to install and if lucky, you can always ask if its ok to learn on the sideline?

Dont forget, installing the autostart requires giving up your spare key (valet) so that it can autostart by remote, hide that well underdash.

I have auto start in all my cars and its worth every penny. nothing like AC precooling the car in the summer and heated seats and heat auto defrosting on in the winter :sweetjesus:

Can anyone chime in if this is true? I've been thinking of getting one for my dad's truck for Christmas and I definitely know he wouldn't be cool with that type of setup.

There are some universal bypass module that requires giving up a spare key to use the chip inside your key allowing to autostart.

Worse gas mileage from starting and letting it idle for 10 mins every morning. Hahahahaha. But you get over it quick when you a$$ is toasty warm driving to work ;)

well here is why I tend to stay away from them now, back in the day when I was a noob at car audio (not saying I'm a pro now but I have higher standards and demands now that I know a bit more) Yes, all I wanted was cheap speakers + bass, ( ie, alpine, bazooka, jenson) so I went to shops such as FS/ BB/ Ralphs for my stuff.

But now I'm more into sound quality and I realize that products I want is not offered at those stores. + I can get higher quality brands and models ie, amps, speakers, decks at cheaper price at smaller car audio specialist stores.

and those $299,399 deals you see for compustar 2 way + auto start installed only includes basic install if you read the fine details EVERYTHING is additional, ie trunk pop, hood latch sensor, tilt sensor, and it all adds up. So I only go to smaller specialist shops now to get my stuff done, and I get better discounts too cuz I know the installers personally (I've seen their work and know that they are capable) and they know exactly what I want.

Hmm not that I know of... my car would be started remotely and I set it to run for 15 minutes max, then it'll turn off if you don't stick the key in by then.

thats what they all say, but once you've heard and had quality its hard to go back cuz everything else sounds like crap :okay:

Definitely convenient during winter seasons or after a long day at work and car has been sitting there for too long. Have a smoke while idling beside you, smoke + smoke :P
