Firstly,

RIP to Constable Adrian Oliver.

I'm not too familiar with this intersection. Thoughts on what could have happened here?

Police vehicle involved in serious Surrey crash
SURREY (NEWS1130) - An RCMP officer was killed early Tuesday morning in Surrey, B.C. when his police cruiser collided with a tractor trailer.

Constable Adrian Oliver was on duty at the time of the crash at 148th and 64th Avenue. Paramedics found the 28-year-old officer pinned and unconscious in the shattered, grey, unmarked cruiser. They managed to pull him from the crumpled wreck and rushed him to hospital, but he couldn't be saved.

Oliver was a second-generation Mountie. His father is a senior officer in Ottawa; his brother is also on the force.

Oliver began training with the RCMP in 2008, and was first posted to Surrey in 2009.

I think I may have been around the area after it happened too because I saw all these police vehicles rushing to the seen unless they were responding to a different call

RIP... I wonder what the cause might be... Cruiser speedin without sirens? It just doesn't look right... It's 100% plausible that neither driver knew the danger... It's like they didn't touch the brakes at all...

why make an assumption like that ?

Especially when the facts that were released already show that he was minutes away from his police station on the way back to end his shift, no reason for him to speed and I doubt he was looking down at his laptop while driving like most cops do when they're in the middle of their shift or working, he was pretty much off shift.
He was simply on his way back to the station to finish his shift, normal assumption would be he was driving normally

looks like the truck was turning left while the cop car was going straight judging by this picture because of the position/resting place of the vehicles

I live right by 64th and 148th. Thats an industrial section and a lot of truckers frequent the area. no one can assume anything until all the facts are laid out. But the only thing that is certain is that speed had a factor in that wreckage. Rip

We need better driver education/training (regardless of who was at fault) in bc.

This life shouldn't have been lost. Safety starts with all of us, everyday, real tragedy

Most new RCMP vehicle got dash cameras. They should check the camera and see any clue in the video or not.

ive been trying to figure that out for a while. i live pretty close to the area and actually drive by the accident scene often.

it makes no sense because 148 is a very narrow road, with 152 just down the street i dont see why a truck that size would go down it. i doubt the police car could move the truck to a position where it looks like he was heading in the on coming lane and i dont think the truck rolled back much because the car is still in the front of the semi in the pics... weird

its hard to say who is at fault from the picture but life was lost none the less.

oh no, I totally understand that.
What I'm saying was that Crown Victoria has "poor" rating on side impact.
It is the most dangerous car in its class.

If the officer was driving a Mercedes, Lexus, Volvo, etc...maybe he might have got away with serious injuries. Not death.

do u want your taxes to be raised and have them all drive around in high end luxury cars like benz, lexus, volvo?

If its so dangerous to drive in, ban it from being sold in canada.

uh no. if a car collides head on with a semi at anywhere near an average city rate of speed, it's pretty safe to say the people in the car die upon impact, and those that don't usually won't make it to the hospital. have some common sense, it's a truck, it's basically a wall on wheels

He's an officer. He runs the chance of any one of his calls to be his last. It was just an unfortunate event.

Judging by the force of impact, he could have been in a G Wagon and still have the same outcome. Just unfortunate.

Reports on the news say the semi driver states the officer had his signal on to turn and was slowing down so the semi began it's turn and then he says the cruiser sped up and drove into his truck.

I dont know about that. You would have to be going pretty fast to cause that kind of damage. and who was turning which way.

sounds like a bs story. if the truck was just beginning his turn then how did he end up so far out of lane?? and cant you tell if the guy is going to turn, i mean the cop wasn't even in the turning lane

The point of contention is going to be whether the police officier was really signalling for a turn. But unless the forensic unit can plausibly prove / disprove this point, the truck driver's recount of the incident is going to stand.

the truck must have been going down 64th since i dont think any truck would be going down 148. The cop was probably heading back to the station on 142, so he must have been going west on 64th and making a left to go south on 148 and got tboned in the intersection.

Only other way would be if the cop blew the stop sign going south on 148 which seems unlikely. Or the truck blew the light on 64th which also seems unlikely since it was dry, the truck was unloaded and 64th is perfectly flat.

I think it is more frontal offset crash rather than side impact

this is the frontal offset crash test at 40 MPH
2003-2010 Ford Crown Victoria - IIHS Crash Tests - YouTube

the car must be travelling faster than that to get that much damage

No. The semi was coming the other direction, so its not like hitting something that was stopped.

A semi truck is 16 to 20 thousand pounds. any car getting hit by that isn't going to survive.

youre an idiot...someone lost a life in the line of duty and you say he deserves it? and now you want people to focus on you?

gtfo!

that intersection is where they have the garbage recycling area...i think the truck was going to the truck parking lot on the other side. the impact was hard enough for the truck to move and eventually rest where it is.

andof course the truck driver will say thise things he said...that's his only defense but he is still at fault as he was turning and did not turn in a safe manner...

Yes because any cop involved in speeding, is clearly a cop that has beaten someone without just cause. You are so fucking stupid. So any citizen with a run in with the cops is innocent until proven guilty, but any cop is guilty until proven innocent right?
