RCMP have issued an Amber Alert. They are looking for three year-old Alvin Barnet last seen in Elk Valley. He is 3 foot 2, 35 pounds and was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

The suspect is his father - 39 year old Robert. He is 5 foot 5 with reddish blonde hair and a scar above his right eyebrow. When last seen he was wearing wearing dark sweater, blue jeans, runners. Police say he could be unshaven with some facial hair. He has

Police are looking for a 2002 blue Subaru Outback with BC license plate 347SBL.

They may already be in Montana.

AMBER ALERT update

RCMP confirm the vehicle carrying three-year-old Alvin and 39-year-old Robert Barnet has crossed into the USA. RCMP say they're in a blue 2002 Subaru Outback with a BC license plate #347SBL.

AMBER Alert is intended only for the most serious, time-critical child abduction cases. It is not intended for cases involving parental abductions, except in life-threatening situations.

and yet many times over we've seen it used in parental "abductions" which were not life threatening; suspicions cry out that this isn't a life threatening case either (since he left the country)

ELK VALLEY (NEWS1130) - Elk Valley RCMP are issuing an amber alert for a missing three-year-old boy.

Alvin Barnet is believed to be with his father, 39-year-old Robert Barnet.

Alvin is described a 3-foot-2, 35 pounds, wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

Robert is described as 5-foot-five, Caucasian with green eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark sweater, blue jeans, and runners. He is possibly unshaven with some facial hair, has reddish blonde hair, and a scar above his right eyebrow.

RCMP say the pair have crossed the border into the USA in a blue 2002 Subaru Outback, BC license plate #347SBL.

According to police, the young boy was spending time with his father during a supervised visit at a hotel. They say the two left the room and when they failed to return, police were notified.

If you spot them, RCMP are advising you do not approach them and immediately call 9-1-1.

Must be some kind of danger if RCMP is telling you not to even approach them.

he's long gone now anyhow, it's been 7hrs+ since he crossed into the usa he could be anywhere

Judge probably denied joint custody favoring the mother, though I can appreciate the father's ambition to be there for his son growing up, it's just a shame that he had to resort to this way of getting that.

...Or he's mentally ill and does not have the capacity to raise a child and may not even know why he's taken his son away. I cannot appreciate the father's "ambition."

If a judge has ruled that this man is not fit for custody of the child, there has to be some rather serious reasons for this decision. The court's priority is to come up with a parenting plan that allows the family to stay as close together with the children as possible and if he's been denied custody then it's usually for good reason. Ambition lol.

Moskaluk said the child and father were together during a supervised parental visit, indicating the father had limited access to his child, and as a result the incident met the criteria for an amber alert.

He said he didn't know why the father may have been on a supervised visit.

Viets said as soon as officials in her state were notified of the Amber Alert by the Mounties, the criminal justice system broadcast to all state and local police and sheriffs agencies the information and to be on the lookout for the vehicle, child and suspect.

At the request of the Elk Valley RCMP, officials then issued the Amber Alert, notifying the public and press.

"We have shared out Amber Alert with the state of Idaho and they're re-broadcasting it there," she said. "We've also done a multi-state broadcast to all the western states like Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nevada so that other states are aware of it in case they pass through Montana undetected."

She said Montana is a big state that takes several hours to cross but because Barnett is believed to have crossed in the afternoon it's possible he could have made it into another jurisdiction.

I can't watch TV because they keep poppin' the Amber Alert on. It literally changes the channel, plays the message for 2 minutes, then flips back to your channel. 6 minutes later, same thing...for the last 1.5hrs.

Washington and Idaho are their areas on interest right now I believe.
