New Linux OS - Sailfish from Jolla Mobile

The former Maemo/Meego team from Nokia started their own company called Jolla and they were infused with money and support from Nokia and investors

Supposedly the next big thing for China and also the rest of the world (concentration on china)

The'll be showcasing their OS/UI in about 10 minutes

if you want to see it live you can go here Jolla

http://www.katsomo.fi/?progId=154747 <<< video demo of the os

and a youtube intro

you might notice an Android droid @ 0:50 and that's because android apps work seamlessly, supposedly, on SailFish OS but if they wanted to make use of sailfish features they'd need to be converted etc with QT/QML

another demo

their phone has been revealed today and here's a demo of the phone and the OS

the OS looks a bit boring imo but it seems to run very well and the seemless transition from watching a video to the homescreen/apps menu looks great (4:00 mark)

i dont know if this'll get any traction though :/

Wow that's a beautiful phone.
I love more competition in the market, but I just wish phone manufacturers would stop gunning for the thinnest phone on the market, and instead put more emphasis on battery size.

Sorry, I didn't watch the videos or read any articles but who manufactures the phone?

you can ignore the first post its old the 2nd one is the new one :P

and to answer i dunno i guess Jolla manufactured it

they're an offshoot of Nokia a lot of the old Nokia people are working there and they were given funding from Nokia to get them started

and a HK tycoon is a major investor they'll be targeting China with their OS

i think this phone is merely a concept though iirc they're only going to be making the OS and offering it up to manufacturers

I'd probably give this a go if they decide to reach out to North America. Still loving my N9.
