Are they always on? Or do they have some kind of sensor that will snap pictures if someone is about run a red, etc?
I made a left turn as I was approaching the intersection and the light was orange but turned red as I was halfway into the turn and the camera snapped some pictures which never happened until today... will I get fined? If so how much and how long does it take for the ticket to get to me?
Thanks!

No, they are not always on.
Only on Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. They are also turned off on weekends and any public holidays.
Last time I checked, we have red - yellow - and green. If the light was already yellow when you were approaching it....and you still decided to dash for it, then chances are you deserve that ticket.
Fines might vary in amount and length of time to get sent to you. But in the meantime, you could make a donation of $50 or more to RS and it might help speed up the process.

Sorry I mean the big white boxes where you can see the flash when it happens, this happened at 5AM on grandview highway.

They need to take a picture of you behind the stop line when the light is red and another picture as you cross.
If you were already in the intersection before the light turned red, you have a case.

If you were already in the intersection while the light was yellow, the camera wasn't snapping you; it was probably someone else that triggered it.

how it actually works is if you are approaching an intersection at speed and the light is late yellow or red it will take a picture of you before you enter (in this case you turned left at a fast rate of speed) so it took the snap in case you were to go through the intersection, and because you didnt, it will be reviewed and thrown out...
and i have seen camera flash go off at 2am on a sunday before, they are triggered to go off at anytime assuming someone is running a red

Some good video links there - nothing like having a cop for a crash witness: Burnaby Crash - YouTube

Hard to take OP serious when he also started these two following threads:
http://www.revscene.net/forums/672598-leaving-cars-outside-garage.html
I was wondering if leaving a car (brand new) overnight outside and not covered in like a garage would damage the car? Some mornings its all frosted over, will that do anything to the paint etc?
THANKS
http://www.revscene.net/forums/676467-translink-people.html
I've heard from a few friends that the people who work for translink who do fare checks and walk around etc make 90,000 a year? Also bus drivers making over 6 figures according to a friend whos uncle works as one...
This is hard to believe, does anyone here have any knowledge on this?

I was the only one there, it was still yellow as I just crossed the intersection line and I saw the flashes and during the turn it turned red and flashed again

Ok. You are excused after providing those two funny links. :fullofwin:

More than likely, those lights are meant to catch people running through red lights.
I doubt you will get a ticket.
even if the camera did flash, it doesn't mean you will get a ticket. each camera flash is actually reviewed by someone and they decide whether or not you deserve the ticket.
i once was turning westbound onto 41st on cambie and some dumb bitch was yapping on the phone and started crossing when the light was flashing don't cross. i was already in the intersection waiting to turn but for her sakes i waited it out. i got flashed as i completed my turn but i didn't get a ticket.
