: Avatar 2... and 3.... and 4...?

James Cameron will begin filming 'Avatar 2' next year.

The Oscar-winning director has revealed he is working on the scripts for the second movie in the franchise, as well as the third, and wants to start shooting 'Avatar 2' by the end of 2013.

He said: ''I want to get these scripts nailed down. I don't want to be writing the movie in post production. We kind of did that on the first picture, I ended up cutting out a lot of scenes and I don't want to do that again.''

James previously admitted he only plans to make 'Avatar' films for the rest of his career.

He explained: ''I'm in the 'Avatar' business. Period. That's it. I'm making 'Avatar 2', 'Avatar 3', maybe 'Avatar 4', and I'm not going to produce other people's movies for them.

''I'm not interested in taking scripts.... I think within the 'Avatar' landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it. And doing it in an entertaining way.''

The 2009 3-D sci-fi film was a huge hit and told the tale of humans exploiting the natural resources of the planet Pandora.

wonder if Abadah 2 is going to be as mind blowing and game changing as the first. Or if it's going to be a letdown Transformer's style where the first was just SO good, it isn't possible for the second one to compare.

Yeah, and it showed.

I genuinely don't understand what the big deal was about Avatar. Sure, it was the first "popular" 3D film, but by no means was it the first one to be shown in a theatre. Oh, and both the script and half the actors were terrible.

I hated Avatar so much, don't understand how people liked it. It was such a hippie, hug the tree and love the cats bullshit.

I couldn't see how the Earth forces couldn't just carpet bomb or unleash a bio weapon first then send in the ground troops. Totally didn't make any tactical sense.

i think one of his points was to show how settlers come and occupy territory and terrorize/murder the natives (like palestine/israel)

but the story was meeeeehhhhh zzz

it looked really nice though and i think thats the reason for the majority of his earnings

Avatar was a good movie for the 3D in theatres, nothing else.

My other favourite 3D movie in theatre would have to be Coraline, which came out before Avatar and all of these bastardized 3D trend movies came along.

I enjoy 3D movies in theatres when they give me a sense of being captivated, as if I am a part of that world. This only works for first time viewings, after that I want it to remain as a fond memory and nothing more.

Although I did enjoy Avatar the first time that I watched it in theatres, I feel as if making sequels to the first movie would totally ruin it for me.

Don't worry. Avatar one was all hype. People will go and watch Avatar 2 and be like "wow, this wasn't as good as Avatar 1". Avatar 3 won't fool anyone, and Avatar 4 will be a straight to DvD special.

I think Avatar is the single most overrated movie ever made.

Ya, the story was pretty pocahontas and watered down generic, but you cant sit there and tell me you weren't :ahwow: the whole way thru it. The visuals in that movie were mind blowing next level. I loved that movie, Id never seen anything like it before or since. Hell, it's grossed like $3billion, it has to have be appealing to at least someone!

But I very much doubt they will be able to pull off a few more movies without it seeming like they are just milking the franchise for money.

But alas, this is RS where most say nearly every movie and TV series is boring and a 7/10. Sometimes I cant believe how nothing is good enough to anyone here lol. I've never seen so many people post "I got up and left half way thru" absolutely epic blockbuster movies as Ive seen here.

I just realized I haven't seen a single movie he's made since T2: Judgement Day.... I never saw the first Avatar, I thought it was way over-hyped for what the plot summary and trailer was. I expect the next one to be just as hyped, but the number on the end is inversely proportional to the quality of the film.

I'm not going to take anything away from Avatar's visuals. Other than that? I personally thought it was pretty bland and mediocre at best in terms of everything else.

Oscar nomination for best picture? Give me a break. I was so happy The Hurt Locker won that year.

Cameron's Titanic grossed a shitload too, and that movie was ass.

Sorry, I'm just a really big Avatar hater. I didn't think it was a shitty film. I just thoughtit got waaaaay too much credit than it deserved from both the box office and from all it's nominations/wins.

I think this speaks for itself though...

Not even Titanic... that was the biggest movie back in 1997...

Titanic was a grand technical feat though...even more so than avatar imo

He's still planning on making 1 other movie (that he has stated publicly anyways) called Battle Angel Alita. It's an adaption of an anime or something. I'm sure he won't just make Avatar his whole life... he is old though so I wouldn't hold it past him. Kind of disappointing though its release date is supposedly 2015? the fuck man

Man the people on RS are worse than critics..sometimes a movie is just a movie..doesn't need to be analyzed to death..if you were going in to see it thinking it was an epic story then you would hate it

Maybe not, but here's the thing. Yes, the movie was a visual orgasm. I have no qualms with admitting that the there were some fantastic CG and, while I despise 3D films with a passion, it was at least acceptable in this movie. However, that's all it had going for it. Don't get me wrong; I love Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez. Hell, I even worked for James Cameron many years ago and while he was an ass, at least he was a nice one. But even with all that, it still had a shitty storyline and poor acting. I'm positive that, like Titanic, it was one of those word-of-mouth movies that got everyone going. Teens would see it and tell their friends. Then when it became so popular, their parents would go see just what all the hoopla was about. I've seen far better movies tank at the box office simply because it never got off the ground with a good target audience.

And that's what disappoints me the most; everyone wants to see the Jerry Bruckheimer-esque action movies or American Pie style comedies (don't get me wrong... I love those as well), but to hell with a good drama.

I blame today's youth. :D

For those who hated Avatar, what movie would you recommend that is along the same line of movie? Don't say fuckin the shawshank redemption. I mean a full blown action/adventure with groundbreaking visuals? Avatar isn't remembered, and Im pretty sure I dont recall it being advertized) for being the best original story or having the best acting. It is remembered for being visually next level. Is Terminator2 considered an acting masterpiece? lol

Everyone should watch RLM's Avatar review. He hits the nail on the head with everything.

Avatar blows.

I'd argue that Inception has all 3: Story, visuals, and superb acting.

T2 had a fairly original story and had solid action sequences. Avatar had visuals. That's it. Plus the theme and overall message was so preachy.

In the end, the story always makes the movie, not visuals; well for me at least.
