Yup, a power surge is usually indicative of a failure somewhere else on the grid, either a transformer blowing up, power line pole being hit, or a substation somewhere going offline.
More of you guys need battery backup systems for your computers :p

Didn't notice anything tonight. I'm in the Broadway and Clark area.
Power was out early this morning for a few(random?) businesses though. The screens and the hot holding stations were out at Timmy ho's. No breakfast items :( Van Whole had no power as well.
I think a bunch of people on facebook saw the sky light up white like lightning. Then heard fire trucks, assuming something lit up at the power station behind KFC.

Looks like it hit a pretty big area. I saw that huge flash and power went off and on, but everything stayed on luckily.
I thought someone was doing a grow up again or something.
Had it happen to me at 33rd & Nanaimo last night.
Surge for 1 second and came back on.

Had a power surge last night so today I go on my treadmill and run for 30 mins, get off and I'm cooling down when I hear a big bang, i'm like wtf so I go to power on my treadmill, nothing. So I look down at the power bar and this is what i see;

That's why you need a really good surge protector or else you risk damage, thankfully my treadmill is fine.

we're fortunate enough to have a nice and stable power here in the lower mainland...when i was in chicago...power poles have voltage on the outside and the only thing stopping people from getting shocked was the paint...

Had it happen, near Duffins. I noted it because my phone beeped like I had just plugged into my charger. That and the lights went bright for a split second.
