I love Star Trek, especially TNG. What I don't like about the movies is that they are always about war and conflict. Some of the best TNG episodes had no war or conflict at all. I wish they would make a drama starring the TNG crew, before they get way too old :(

Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home - Trailer - YouTube
As far as the villain in this one, this trailer suggests mostly Gary Mitchell to me... I've heard of some other slips that lean in this direction as well. But as is usually pointed out in these articles, Abrams is famous for misdirection, so pretty much anything you THINK he's "letting slip", you can probably assume the opposite is true.
The next mystery is, who is the hot blonde in the trailers?? She's Alice Eve, but IMDB doesn't list a character name for her. Is it Rand? Or is it Dr. Elizabeth Dehner? The latter would confirm that the villain is Mitchell, which would definitely be why her character isn't listed, along with Cumberbatch... there wasn't really a woman of the same significance in the Khan storyline, not one whose character name would give away the secret. Well, there was Lt. Marla McGivers, but then they'd have to be going all the way back to the original Space Seed story...
Either way... would smash.

The ship lifting out of the water appears to be the NCC-1701 (2009 ver.), the nacelles are almost identical. Therefore, it would appear as though the earlier scene comes after the later crash landing scene. Strange, because the later crash happens in a populated area, yet the earlier one looks to be out at sea.
So unless the Enterprise can maneuver under water, there is some strange shit going down. My theory is that the later crash is not the NCC-1701 (2009 film), but one of the other versions of the Enterprise from another dimension, that came through a wormhole and crash landed on earth. Perhaps it's just another federation ship?
Notice that the nacelles do not look the same as the 2009 rendition, and that the supports are bent in the middle. The nacelles are also further spread apart, and the saucer looks to be much lower than the nacelles.

well John Harrison is a clockmaker and invented the Marine Chronometer
John Harrison - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harrison)
John Harrison (24 March 1693 – 24 March 1776) was a self-educated English carpenter and later a clockmaker. He invented the marine chronometer, a long-sought device in solving the problem of establishing the East-West position or longitude of a ship at sea, thus revolutionising and extending the possibility of safe long distance sea travel in the Age of Sail. The problem was considered so intractable that the British Parliament offered a prize of £20,000 (comparable to £2.87 million in modern currency) for the solution.[1][2]
connection in anyway? offer any clues?

Now, we have been given some additional information over the last week. After the incredible teaser trailer dropped last week, the Bad Robot website revealed the names of two new characters for this movie. Alice Eve, who some have suggested was either Nurse Chapel or Dr. Elizabeth Dehner. Now we have learned that she will be playing the character of Dr. Carol Marcus, who in the other timeline was Captain Kirk’s former flame and mother of his son, David.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s character has been under much tighter scrutiny. First people believed him to be a new take on Khan, who many would argue to be the most infamous villain in the Trek universe. Then people (including myself) believed that he could be a new take on Gary Mitchell, another villain from the original series. Now we know that Cumberbatch will be playing John Harrison.
Co-writer/producer Roberto Orci initially got those rumors going by saying that the films villain would be a character from the original series. What none of us ever expected was that it would be someone who was a very small part of the original series.
In the original timeline, John Harrison was a "redshirt." In this one, he’s a one-man weapon of self-destruction. How’s that for a butterfly effect? We should all give it up to J.J. Abrams and crew for keeping us guessing and stringing us along. The man is a master.

JJ Abrams did a great job on the star trek revive. As an 80s child i grew up watching Star Trek series cuz my dad watches it every night so i can appreciate the character introductions. I can see this franchise growing cuz Abrams did the timeline right with the introduction of Khan which will eventually lead to his Wrath. Then the brief introduction of the klingons which will eventually lead to Commander Whorf, and of course this whole series could possibly lead to the next generation and introduce a young Captain Picard.
I can only see great things leading as long as Abrams keeps doing what he's doing now.

Who thought this was basically a recycled version of the first Star Trek ?
like what the Hangover 2 was to the Hangover 1 ??
It was a really fun movie I really liked it, but that's just the Trekkie in me getting his fix talking, we put that aside the movie was almost identical to the first minus the origin of Kirk storyline.... if this movie series is going to turn into a strictly Villain oriented theme like James Bond, I guess they're doing it right.... but the Trekkie in me wants more, I think I speak for most Trekkies when I say we would like more on the side, not a 100% focus on the Villain no matter how good he is portrayed or acted out.....
and no don't bring the "oh but the character development blah blah" crap into the discussion, because by now we all know who is who and how they do.... would like to see more mind blowing Trekkie stuff I used to see growing up watching TNG
like for example when the Klingons came out, I sat up on the edge of my seat with excitement, I was a little boy again for a few minutes literally......
I now go to my kitchen to make some earl grey, HOT, in ode to Picard, g'day trekkies

I really liked this post on Quora (http://qr.ae/pCzL5) (you need to have an account to read, but it's quick, easy, and free), dissecting the movie - I think the answerer nailed pretty much everything he addressed.
The thing is, a lot of the complaints like G-spec's are fitting if these were to be the only two movies... but if you assume Abrams is trying to create a whole new branch of this storied franchise, with the potential for multiple future movies and possibly even new TV series, then he needs to take the time to first introduce all our relevant players (first movie), then to flesh out their personalities, relationships, and so on (note in the Quora article, the poster's thoughts on the Kirk/Spock relationship, Kirk's quick advancement to the Captain's chair, etc.). Keep in mind that they're trying to appeal to a whole new generation of fans who AREN'T already intimately familiar with the main characters, but may only know them as cultural memes ("Beam me up, Scotty!" and so forth)... plus, the formation of many of these relationships, as well as the two main characters' backgrounds, have been significantly altered from the ones we're familiar with.
You notice at the end of Into Darkness, Kirk gives the little "five year mission" speech as the Enterprise warps out for places unknown, which really sets up that they're embarking into what's no doubt hoped to be a lengthy (and lucrative) movie franchise. Now that both new and old fans alike have a better idea what makes everyone tick, it leaves them free to really open up other storylines, and we won't be left wondering, "Gee, why did Kirk decide to do that instead of this?"

Yeah dude...I got the connection :):)
But in STII, spock died...and you cared. They didn't magically bring him back the next scene. And you had one of the saddest character funerals in a movie. And STIII sucked because they took away from the emotional connection of STII.
I'm a huge star trek fan. And I've been disappointed both outings on these.
I am sure that for people that never liked the original ST, that these ones probably work. How you screw up a character like Khan, I have no idea. You can call Benedink Cumberpooper many things, but none of them actually convince me in anyway that he played Khan in a Star Trek movie.
I know that casting always has a component of name recognition in combination with ability to play the part, but in some of these movies lately, I think we've completely forgot to ask if these people can play the role.
I'm actually angry that the character was whitewashed.

I'm actually angry that the character was whitewashed.
And I'm perturbed that people insist on injecting this racism where none was required or intended.
Go look up some of Abrams' comments on why Cumberbatch was chosen - none of them (at least none I've read) have anything to do with wanting to make Kahn "more white", and everything to do with his acting.
Gridlock
07-22-2013, 02:13 PM
Well, if we picked him for the acting, we failed there too.
I'm not saying its a racist decision. I'm just saying he was a horribly bad casting for the role.
He used to be brown. Now he's not.
If Abrams wanted to re-do the original movies like it was - he would've cast a horrible actor like Shatner as Kirk. But he didn't - he wanted to do something original - but keep a little taste of the old series/movies. He didn't cast a brown guy as Khan, because he wanted Cumberbatch - it has nothing to do with race.
Honestly, I quite enjoyed the movie - even though I was a huge fan of the original movies.
