I don't normally make a habit out of posting news stories, but I came across this today and it really made me pause and go "WTF". It just sickens me to see how low some people can stoop.

An 18-year-old man is recovering from second- and third-degree burns on his back after he was set on fire after passing out at a house party in Kelowna, B.C., Friday night.

The man was lying on the kitchen floor when a liquid accelerant was poured on him and then lit on fire, police said. The incident was filmed.

Matthew Sweet-Grant, 20, and Joshua McWhirter, 18, have been charged with aggravated assault.

The victim is still in hospital with "very serious injuries," said Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clarke.

"It's certainly very disturbing that somebody might do this to somebody that's incapacitated by drugs or alcohol. They're defenceless," Clarke said.


"But if you do a quick search on the internet you can certainly see this isn't the first time that it's happened and it probably won't be the last."

Clarke said investigators believe one of the suspects may have done something similar before, and RCMP are asking anyone with information about previous incidents to come forward.

One of the men charged in a bizarre crime that left an 18-year-old man with second and third degree burns to his body has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

A lawyer representing 20-year-old Mathew Sweet-Grant entered the plea this morning at the Kelowna Court House.

The incident happened at a house party on Dec. 8, when the victim passed out on a kitchen floor and was set on fire after a flammable liquid was poured onto his back.

Sweet-Grant will make his next appearance on Feb. 4, after a pre-sentence report and a pysch report has been completed.

The other man charged in the crime, 18-year-old Josh McWhirter is charged with aggravated assault and will be back in court on Jan. 8.

Both men remain in custody at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, the victim remains in hospital.

I kinda agree with you but I also don't. There's no way anyone could possibly explain a specific behavior because there are sooooo many different influences that we can't even think of. So you can't say it was a result of shitty parenting and you can't say it wasn't a result of it either.

Nothing is 100% but there definitely is a correlation between doing fucked up shit when you're older as a result of trauma suffered during childhood.
