This morning when I got to my car I realized that it has some damage on the front bumper on the driver side. I am 95% sure that the damage was not there last night because I put gas before heading home and I would of noticed. I park in the underground of an apartment complex next to an older van. I noticed some damage on his van but I am not sure if it adds up. I called ICBC and made a report and an appointment. They told me to file a police report against the mini van, but before i go accusing him to the police, I want second opinions. I will try talking to the building managers tomorrow to see if the cameras reach the area.

honestly, never really payed attention to the van. I would of thought the damage on the van is older, but when you look at the third picture I posted, the colour on my car looks like it matches up to the van. I just don't understand the white scuff marks on my car.

Measure the height of his damage to yours, from the ground. Compare. Take pictures of you doing so.

Don't wash your car, as there may be paint transfer from his car to yours. It looks like his car is older, which means paint may be softer, in which case it'll transfer to your car.

The dent on his car looks to be on sheetmetal, and yours is on a plastic bumper...in which case your bumper should be deformed somehow, as there is no way metal will bend from plastic. Unless that part of the van is also plastic.

Sorry to hear that, dude. Your vehicle's damage spot looks lower than the mini van's bent spot. The headlights on your vehicle didn't damge at all, right?
Using a flexible rule to measure the height of the damages on both vehicles. If they are almost same height, then you can go for paint match to see if the paint left on your car is the mini van's paint or not.

If you have another car, you can driver the other one until ICBC do the color match. BTW, Strata usually doesn't offer any videos. There was 10 vehicles got broken in at one night happened in my complex. The victims reported to our strata, and they don't even offer any videos. Damn. Anyways, good luck. Keeping updated.

good luck with the strata video, I never got mine when my bike was stolen. ICBC and cops should know to deal with it.

Anyway, that big dent on the truck doesn't seem to be made by your bumper, but again, for sure the inspector at ICBC should able to tell right away.

The dent on the van doesn't look like it came from your car, but the two scuffs above and below that indented bodyline look similar. Like other have said, measure things and get the paint scuffs checked out for colour matching.

i can almost 99% say that the damage on your car was not from that van. That's crazy damage!

No scrape from a car looks like that... there's cross section scuffs everywhere. Almost looks like someone purposely and repetitively scrapped your car with something

I've never seen damage like that from a vehicle to vehicle scuff, the scratches are in a cross hatched pattern, not in straight lines.

I don't think the van did that.

Okay, so the manager said the cameras only record the entrance gate, so im shit out of luck there. I am not sure what to believe anymore, I'm not sure if it is a work van and perhaps he was hauling something out when he damaged the car but I do agree that the scratches seems odd.

That does not look like it was from a car to car accident... It looks like something really rough was dragged back and forth across it... Cement breeze block? A brick?

White scuff marks doesn't necessarily mean white paint. When you scuff up the clearcoat, it'll turn white - I learned that from a previous hit and run.

yea the scratches are diagonal doesn't look like a even scrap from a single hit. but its odd. if someone was to scratch your car wouldn't they do a more obvious spot than the corner of your bumper

It's possible that the damage was done by his bumper (it seems closer to the correct height) so measure the bumper corner height as well. If it's the right height that odd cross pattern might have been caused by his bumper corner rubbing against your car as he drives into it and then driving away from it.

Yeah, and if you look at the trim piece above the lip, it almost looks like it was crumpled and straightend back out... like someone pushed it in and then pushed it back out in hopes nobody would notice.

Anyway... did ICBC look at the car yet? Their estimators are usually pretty good at figuring out the source of damage - they've seen it ALL, many times over, as well as some of the BS stories people come up with to explain it (not saying OP's story is BS, just that they're used to figuring out the real cause regardless of what they're told happened). We just have pictures to go by here; they'll be able to examine it closely, check any residue, etc.

The van wasn't home all day for me to use a tape measure. My appointment with icbc is at Jan 10, hopefully nothing washes off that could help pin it on the van. I still would like to file a police report, should I try contacting the van driver first?

I'm thinking there might be a chance of the van scrapping you when he/she was trying to back up to the stall..
