thought I start a thread for those following CES
Nvidia trying to push cloud computing with a new overambitious android handheld console
-tegra 4
- 5" 720p touch display
- "base-reflex" audio
- xbox-like controller
- 4K video output via HDMI
- 5-10 hours of gaming...24 hours of video
- stream PC/Steam games to display or TV
ugly and probably gonna be priced over $350

Yeah not interested in Shield. Ugly, don't care about cloud, don't care about 4K (the demo was done in 720p btw)
I do like the real time HDR though

If the screen is bigger than 42" or so and you're close enough, for sure

i applaud them for being the first big company to try cloud gaming...Sony will soon follow with the Gaikai acquisition
but I personally never had the need for a mobile device to specifically game on the go...so even if I like the idea of continuing a game exactly where you left off on PC...I'll never buy one unless it's on clearance sale.
I also dunno how latency will perform even if you have the best LTE connection
System Requirements for PC Game Streaming*

OS: Windows 7 or higher
Router: Router: 802.11a/g/n

how is sony's 4K tv getting so much attention, when LG came out with its 84" 4K OLED at last yrs 2012 CES?
Because Sony has content and a way to deliver it.

Isn't there a viewing limit on the benefits of 4K over 1080p? Like...you can't tell the difference unless the distance is far enough and you have good enough eyesight.

For 4K you can actually sit closer to the TV and the picture quality will still be crisp and sharp.

Some sick tv's but doesn't mean much to anybody until the prices can come down well south of 10 grand.

I think using a 4k monitor that's about 46 inches in size and is 1.5-2 feet from you will be reasonable.
Assuming that most people find 23 inch 1080p monitors are good enough.
I'll have to admit that playing SC2 on a 28 inch 1920x1200 monitor is tough because it's easy to lose the orientation of the map due to the monitor being so big. But for movies, that'd be crazy, it'd be like a wall of video.... Imagine that with well done 3D... one step closer to holodeck. haha.

Ye I can't game if the tv is bigger than a 50~inch (far or close). Hell I don't think an 80 inch TV will even fit in my living room (or even most peoples), but then again considering its price point; people with small houses most likely won't be able to afford it lol

4K will still be a premium product, but that means the current "Premium" television features we get, will be passed down to cheaper sets this year and next.

This just reminds me of DVD transforming to HD.
Sony is giving away 10 4k movies in a HDD player when purchase with Sony XBR-84X900.
Myself has got some 4K video samples.
I have tried to play them on Dell U2711 at 2560 x 1440 is already stunning.
The Amazing Spider man 4K file is 56.6gb, I guess its time to get more HDD. XD

Blue ray does not support 4k
That is not true, Blu-Ray is capable of supporting 4K. You will need new Blu-Ray players that will decode/read the higher bit-rate files. Blu-Ray can achieve 4K file sizes easily. The amount of layers you can produce on a Blu-Ray disc far surpasses any other disc medium on the market.

4k will help with 3D
and 4k blu-rays will be coming out this year
and there are 4k youtube films already
and blu-ray players with 4k scaling
but it doesnt matter unless you can afford a 4k tv anyhow :)

Sony is releasing some of their Sony Pictures/Columbia films in 4K...I think they said there's like 20+ titles now that will come with the TV.

I think that stand is just for demo/temp purposes. Sony TV's and projectors that are 4k come with a loaned media server. PS4 will defiantly be 4k but who knows what type of media it would use. I don't think it will be called Blu-ray. Red the makers of red cinema camera's used in TLOTR and other movies has a media player that you can pre order right now for around $1000. A company related to red called Odemax? will be starting a 4k download rental service to go with the player. Red is also releasing a 4k laser projector that should be out in the summer for a price of $10k.
every time i think of CES i think of another convention that happens in january :ifyouknow:

That is correct. That is why I said you need new Blu-Ray players that will decode and/or upscale the content that you provide. In reality, most "4K" Blu-Rays we buy will just be higher bit-rate versions with probably a newer codec and compression format. In the end, you'll still need a "Ultra HD/4K" TV to play/upscale media.
Apparently that samsung 84" TV WILL be utilizing that stand. They call it some BS art gallery inspired stand. LOL
