I'm heading to Beijing next week, and the air there is pretty polluted, are there any places locally that I can purchase a decent mask for protecting against polluted air? thanks for any information

that's not fog and it's not nighttime
Beijing residents have been told to stay indoors as pollution described as the "worst on record" - 30 to 45 times above recommended safety levels - left the city shrouded in dense smog.
Earlier, the US embassy in Beijing tweeted that their own readings were 'beyond index'.
One pollution reading shown on the embassy website showed PM2.5 levels of over 600 micrograms per square metre.

Man up and live a little. You'll look like a boss struttin your stuff without wearing a mask. It's like smoking, the image is all that matters.

Hazmasters - Safety Products - Safety Training (http://www.hazmasters.com/)
Might be a little far for you, located in Burnaby.
They have a bunch of masks and they do fit tests too. No point wearing a mask if it doesn't fit proper.

To be honest, I rather not risk getting sick to look good. Besides, I think those masks don't look that bad at all.

To be serious for a moment.
The air there is nasty.
Look 2 blocks in the distance and the smog is very visible.
I blow my nose, and it comes out black.
