Revscene ORIGINALs... what did you drive THEN and NOW? [Archive]

It's hard to believe that I have been on Revscene for over 12 years.... I remember the EZBoard days as if it was yesterday... IC vs RS, Vancouver Imports, etc..., countless courses with lower grades in University due to RS as a distraction, the media's fascination with street racing, etc....

What I am very curious about though is what the RS originals (those who were around back in 2000) were driving THEN and NOW... obviously everybody who was on RS then and now at least have some affinity for cars....

When I first started on RS I had...

2000-2002 : 1997 Pontiac Sunfire
2002-2006 : 2003 Hyundai Tiburon (entered in a bunch of import shows)
2006-2012 : 2004 Subaru Impreza STI (entered in a bunch of import shows)
2008-2010 : 2000 Acura Integra Type-R (entered in a bunch of import shows)
and now...
2012-present : 2009 Range Rover Sport

Curious about everybody else (I remember an awful lot of Hondas back then... and Celicas.... and Type-Rs....) :)

well i started later than you originals, but i like to think of myself as a RS long term slave, spending time in the top 25 posters for sooo many years.

so i'll keep it quick, started with a 1990 eagle talon tsi (as my username has suggested for so many years) and now i'm driving a safe 4 door sedan the 2011 cruze eco, with a yamaha dual purpose bike in my very near future

Supersport: you might be one of the few members who still drive their original car when joining RS. I can think of one or two lesser known members that still have their rides. does jace still have his Celica?

also, this thread is calld Revscene ORIGINALS. I think that only ppl with 2003 or earlier join dates (10years) are allowed to chime in. :p

here's my little contribution. I started off as an EZboard RS member, showing up to meets in my dad's mk3 golf hehe. I guess I'll start with that

1998-2003: 1998 golf GL

2003-2010: 2003 Jetta 1.8T (this car went to my brother/family after I bought my AE86. it was technically still my car until it got totaled in 2010)

summer2008: MR-S (4month ownership)

2009-2012: 2002 s2000

2004-present: AE86

I also had a few secondary beater cars like an EF or 2nd rusty AE86, but they weren't anything nice.

First car, kinda my 'dream' car as I always wanted one. Only had it for 8 months or so; wasn't pleasant as a daily driver over rough roads also the body was tired and starting to rust so wanted to get out of it sooner or later. Still really miss it though, looking back on the pics I am getting nostalgic:

Second car. Owned it for 3 years, great car but by the end was feeling tired and dated; no AC or other creature comforts. Also the fact it was Auto had me feeling restless to get back into a stick-shift; I didn't connect with it as much as I did the Miata.

Time to grow up, got myself a Mazda Protege 5 in manual. Not a fan of black; I didn't even bother naming it or taking photos. However it is fun to drive, has A/C, runs perfect, no leaks and there's is that zoom-zoom essence of the Miata.

i still own the same car when I first joined IC/RS in 2001, but it's now my winter beater for 6 months/year.

I drive my 2007 S2000 in the other 6 months of the year.

never really understood why some people go through so many different cars in so little time. Upgrading I can understand, but lateral movements I don't. Can't you just find car(s) that you actually like and want to keep or even *gasp* drive?

here's another piece of "common knowledge" for you, they have these things called 'Wands' at D.I.Y Car washes that, get this...Don't freeze up! And then you don't have to waste hours of time putting multiple coats of wax on it in the summer! But hey, if it makes sense for you to scrub your car with a brush filled with rocks from the underside of a 4x4, giver hell :thumbsup: .

Although I understand where you're coming from, it could be a number of different factors and circumstances. It could be that the person's car was written off, or sold off due to mechanical upkeep and the associated costs, or was sold off in turn of a profit.

Or it could be that some people want to experience other cars and not stick to just one brand, you know, like being open minded?

it's called Estoril blue.

only available on special request from the dealer. everyone of these are stamped with an "individual package" under the hood as a special order.

it was available on e36 m3, x5 4.8i and some Z coupes if i remember correctly.

Wands don't clean it as thoroughly, i do take my time during summer to make my car as perfect as it can be and i do take multiple steps in doing so.

yeah it wasn't offered, that's why it had to be special offered.

when i did my research on the car apparently you can get any colour you want on bmw but it has to be special request from the dealer to the manufacturer and they stamp in with "individual". you had to be a preferred customer or had purchase previous bmw from that dealer before for them to process the custom color.

so the pheonix yellow are individual package too because not offered as a tradition color for e46.

Yea my family are selling mining/quarrying equipment made out of our Chinese factory. Long story short, I decided to step out of that business to start my family; can't bring my wife and raise a kid in the middle of nowhere China... HK's no Vancouver but it's a little better... been trying to make my way back to Canada ever since but it's tough to make that leap of selling everything to move back again. I did NOT see where I am today when I joined Revscene all those years ago LOL

i hope you didn't give up riding after your move and starting a new family because i miss it still, but not enough to get another. the theft was one thing, but having icbc accuse me of insurance fraud (it was stolen with 2 weeks remaining on my storage policy) made it worse. after 9 months and hiring a lawyer, i had to take a settlement that did not fully compensate me for the loss or my legal bills... and i was still owing money on it :(

but i'm over it now (i think).

Yea I still have a bike in HK and use it to commute. WTF that's pretty messed up about ICBC; though I'm not surprised even from the days when I was in Vancouver all the stories I hear about ICBC fking people over especially bikers and the crazy premiums. HK's automotive insurance industry is much much more competitive

Yea I still have a bike in HK and use it to commute. WTF that's pretty messed up about ICBC; though I'm not surprised even from the days when I was in Vancouver all the stories I hear about ICBC fking people over especially bikers and the crazy premiums. HK's automotive insurance industry is much much more competitive

good to know you didn't give it up... but i still think you are either really crazy, brave or just dedicated to ride a bike in HK. to me traffic over there is like richmondX10. stay safe.

LOL actually I find it much safer to ride in HK since the speeds are much slower (fastest you should legally go is 110kph on the road to the airport); there's no left (or right I guess for HK) turn on yellow which is the causes of the worst accidents in Vancouver and I'd say 90% of intersections are controlled by traffic lights. The HK people here are ok since the road systems here takes all judgement out of the equation; it's bad in Richmond cause of the North American system of assuming the drivers have some good common sense... i.e, you don't merge onto a highway of cars moving at 100+kph by stopping at the on ramp and then slowly try to enter the highway.... And I ride a zx14r now, I would never use a scooter here, they totally look down on scooters and they don't have enough power or brakes to get out of trouble, one rev from my 2 bros exhaust usually either wakes them up or gets me out of danger. The lessons from Dat Louie has served me well and kept me accident free for 10 years since I got my bike license now.

You should get back into it, never too late =)

2012-present: 2006 325i M-sport beautiful sedan, great balance and first taste of German Engineering...awesome engineering (FS on RS!)
October 2013: 2011 e92 335is <- limited production, wicked OEM additions (extra oil coolers, stronger motor mounts, better RAD/Fan, 7-speed DCT m-transmission, M-suspension, custom BMW tune, special styling cues), fully loaded with every factory option...new daily driver

What a journey, which is far from over. Modding is not a PHASE, its a lifestyle. RS always been a safe place for me to share my addition with like-minded enthusiasts! Hope the new GEN of members can keep the class and fun many of us have embraced for years

this is probably one of the nicest bug eyes i've seen without a front lip of any sort. i think this is probably one of the hardest impreza's to make look nice lol

boo to that remark... i bought my bugeye because i loved the look of it... although i will agree it is a love hate front end

Hahaha wow it's good people knows! My username's Titus (same as one here on RS before I was banned for commenting on a 3 year old thread while I was bored at an office in India). Yea I posted the Rein on bc4x4 to show case the LED light bar I had; was trying to start a business selling that in Canada but in the end it's tough when I'm in China and people just see me as "another Chinese out to make a quick buck with no customer service". Approached North Shore Off Road with a few samples and a distributor price list but no one contacted me back. Tried to get some friends interested back home to be my sales rep but after a lot of talk and samples, not one single sale. Oh well.

nah, i think that ship has sailed for me. i'm at the age where goldwings start to look good, and that depresses me.

i had asked you about the mining part because back in the day when about to graduate from high school i was going to enrol in the Mining & Mineral Exploration Technology at BCIT... but then the economy tanked and mining was almost dead in BC and i bailed for something else. how times have changed.
