BC Lions trade Geroy Simon | News1130 (http://www.news1130.com/2013/01/24/bc-lions-trade-geroy-simon/)

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions have traded receiver Geroy Simon to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The club hasn’t released any further details.

“After many weeks of discussion with Geroy, we have reached a point where we believe it’s in the best interest of both parties to move forward with a mutually agreed upon trade,” says vice president of football operations and GM Wally Buono in a statement.

“Geroy’s accomplishments as a player are well documented and his work in our community has been outstanding. We salute and thank Geroy and wish him the very best.”

Simon leaves the team as a two-time Grey Cup champion, as well as the club’s and the league’s all-time leading receiver with 15,787 yards (14,756 with BC). Last year, the six-time CFL All-Star was limited to 700 yards on 54 receptions in 13 appearances

Only impression I've ever got of Geroy was him and his "entourage" freestyling at central city brew pub, won't lose sleep over it

Well, it says "mutually agreed upon trade"... but take it with a grain of salt. :)

Hmmm...I'm more bummed my son will miss out on getting coaching from him in Cloverdale. He would spend a lot of his free time helping out there, his kid played in that organization. As a rider fan I'm sure he'll be somewhat of an asset but his best days are behind him.

Right here is the big reason why hes going to be missed. He has done so much for the community hopefully those programs won't close down.

The Lions wanted Geroy to take less money and a smaller role for the upcoming season due to his age and his contract (Lulay just signed for 450k). While the two sides agreed on money, all indications state that they couldn't agree on the same role for Geroy.

Buono gave Geroy's agent permission to try to get a trade going with another team and they did. If this was any other player, Buono would have just traded/cut them from the beginning after talks went nowhere.

It'll be weird seeing Geroy in green though.
