Buying a stab proof vest online? Afraid of being confiscated

Hey guys, so I want to buy a stab proof vest off ebay (not looking for comments about why ebay or why being cheap lulzz) regardless it is kr1 and sp1 rated and its coming from the UK. I'm afraid of what will happen with it at the border, it being pretty much a tactical vest.
Reason for wanting it is, I'm a security guard looking for some additional protection. Idea came from a co-worker also wearing one, just telling me he rather be safe then sorry. I read (Body Armour Permit and Permit Exemptions - Security Industry and Licensing - Ministry of Justice (http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/securityindustry/body-armour/index.htm)) and I won't need a permit since I have a security license :
Who May Possess Body Armour WITHOUT a Permit
Individuals exempt from requiring a permit to possess body armour while performing the job on which the exemption is granted are:
Those who have a valid B.C. security worker licence authorizing them to provide the services of an armoured car guard, a private investigator, a security consultant, a security guard and / or a body armour salesperson.
Peace officers, sheriffs, corrections officers and conservation officers.
Those employed by the government if wearing body armour is required or allowed in the course of the person's employment.
Security guards registered as a gaming worker under the Gaming Control Act.
Individuals who possess a valid firearms licence issued under the Firearms Act (Canada).
Other then that I'm afraid it might not make it through the border and might even lead to investigation as to why I need one, simply i'm just paranoid about a lot of factors lulz.
Anyone have any experience with this?

MAJOR FAIL ON MY PART! LOL Didn't read your full post...just jumped to a conclusion...sorry OP.
i would suggest checking cbsa's site as to what is prohibited and what isn't in terms of importing in to canada. if it's not allowed i believe there's a chance it will be confiscated.
OP probably needs it because he's in security (he said he has his license) and probably feels safer rocking one in case someone he decides to be uncle phil and DJ jazzy jeff someone out the door tries to shank him.

you can email CBSA or call them regarding questions on prohibited items, they are slow to reply.
i forget the contact as it's been a while but it's on cbsa's website

does your company have any policies in regards to body armour?
is your work that rough that you need it? unless your at a night club or something.

not sure if my company has any policies, but a "senior" up from me wears one just cause he rather not take risks.. even has a camera attached to his jacket incase anything happens just so it can be on film for added protection (all of this he buys with his own money). Our supervisor is also aware of this and doesn't mind
i wouldn't say its rough, but its in the DTES and i deal with druggies with needles daily, had one aggressive person where the guy attempted to assault a co worker coming in to check on me and in reality we're almost always alone and back up isn't going to be showing up for a while.
these situations are part of the job.. and just rather lower the risks if i could.. could almost says it like riding a motorcycle.. you buy/wear gear for added protection if anything happens :okay:

You've already quoted the section regarding exemptions, and you told us that you do have your license. Perhaps it might be worth contacting the CBSA before you attempt to bring it over, but if you do show them all the supporting documentation, I don't think you'll have a problem.

here is a stab proof vest on craiglists for 350
Stab proof vest (http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/bar/3557536196.html)
alternatively, you can put metal plates into the pockets of your normal vest, and by this way, you can make selected parts of your vest "stab proof". (stacking used tin can lids works wells).

iKayChow, I cannot contribute to your thread ... but if I was in your situation I would be looking for the exact same kind of protection.
It's interesting the legalities surrounding the purchase of body-armour.

sorry man don't work at paladin. just a plain ol' static guard in a parking lot with little to no connections :okay: though if you want my opinion i hear concord is pretty awesome being able to work in malls. if you're looking for experience seems like they'll be the best bet (i'll probably be applying there when school ends for this year)
though downside to concord would probably be your friends harassing you at the mall. i imagine if i saw my friends at metro while i'm on duty they'll give me shit such as "OH SHIT SECURITY, DONT ARREST ME" :okay: ahaha and i wouldnt know what to do

only 21 son :fullofwin:. plenty of time to grow up. spoken with a lot of officers and such about their times when applying. and all of them say you'll grow into the role as you get more experience. some people just aren't born outgoing. but people change right :accepted:

Go talk to the guys at daves army surplus and tactical in new west. Also if you work in security or law enforcement id say gloves are your best friend. Look into the hexarmor line of gloves. They are stab and slash proof. They are also needle puncture proof which is a nice bonus on the dtes.

They'll sell to you if you know the guys there. They're hella expensive though, but you know their products work. If I remember correctly they were about $700-800 just for the vest. and around another $300-400 for each plate. But unless you're gonna go around looking for firefights with AK and AR-15 rounds I don't think you'll need those plates
If you're a uniform guard you shouldn't be going near any dangers unless it was a last resort anyways. BC isn't the best in quality security anyways. Found that out with a couple years of experience :okay:

How much longer until powered security exo-skeletons???
silly question. since it's a stab proof vest you're after and it might be illegal. can you modify a tac vest and insert some plates in there?
How much longer until powered security exo-skeletons???
why exo skellies when you can have automated security.

lets just say.. i walk up and down stairways that has a mosquito (some buzzer thing that doesnt let you hear squat and annoys the hell out of you) and turn some corners that you cant see the otherside of.. all at around 6am when its quiet and dark, no ones in the building.. like just dont know if someone comes popping out of no where :okay: found someone sleeping last time in the hallway which wasnt all too bad, most people i've encountered are friendly and just simply want to warm up from the cold and they're quite awesome people ahaha.
but yeah don't need to be stopping no munitions. was instructed you see a guy with a gun you don't do squat, you do what they say and yeah. in reality just need some plexiglass around me just to stop punctures from needles or small knives.. doubt anyone really carries huge machetes around looking to kill a security guard. :suspicious:

Well, the way I saw when I was thinking about VPD is, you need a life experience because this is going to be the rest of your life. It's going to generally be 4 days on 4 days off, with morning/afternoon/night shifts switches every month. Fitness is a huge thing, but the endurance of fatigue counts more in a career like this. They will test your character, your integrity, your reaction to stress and fear. I would suggest gaining every possible skill you can, like licenses, and certifications. Also volunteer at the Community Policing Centers too, that's a big one.
But back to the vest thing , try M.D Charlton in New West. They're pretty friendly with security guards, and from what I remember they might actually sell it to you with no hassle. And if you do still decide to go with the vest, make sure you license NEVER expires, or get a Firearms License (PAL), because if you don't have the valid license, they're technically able to confiscate the vest.

yeah already volunteering quite a bit, ahahah i wish "confiscate" if my license ever expires i could be fined 10,000 and/or go to jail for 6 months for possession of body armour without a permit or license :okay:

Actually, in Canada, we don't have mall cops. We have mall security. In the states, there are mall cops.. who are officers... they actually hold rank too! It's ridiculous, then again, it takes away real cops having to go to malls and deal with shoplifters all day.

At 21, start by reducing the amount of lulz to zero. Secondly, you may want to start typing in proper English so you get into the habit of being mature and professional.
Lastly, do some research online, or better yet call CBSA if you want a direct answer. So far there hasn't been anyone here that was able to give you the answer that you are looking for.

I would suggest not buying online. For these protective gear, it's best to try them on so you know they fit properly (can't just go by measurement).
