Samsung Phones- 1 Yr Lifespan?

Is it the norm now to have a 1 year working lifespan on a Samsung smartphone or smartphone?? Seriously. I've had my S2 for a little over a year now and once it hit the year mark it started with these issues:

1) disconnects voice calls while midway through
2) the middle button no longer brings me back to homepage by a single click but activates voice command.
3) screenshot no longer works...except once in a blue moon
4) it freezes all the time
5) it reboots itself

Has anyone else have these issues? A friend told me that most smartphones go wonky after about a year now, is this true? It's sooooo frustrating. I love this phone but it's aging on me faster than that Twilight baby.

if you factory reset it may resolve issues #3-5...but I doubt you can fix issue #1-2 this way

Most androids don't have long lifespan software-wise because the update support is generally dropped in less than a year...this is why many buy the Nexus phones

After about a year and a half of moderate use, my phone's kinda on and off. Admittedly it's getting kinda crappy but I've never dropped it or anything. Every now and then, I have this issue where I receive texts late or once I send out a text, and sometimes my phone never rings when people attempt to call me

^oh ya mine too. It sometimes doesn't ring or if I've missed one call it says I've missed 2

This is so shit. I'm going to have to go back to my berry which has literally a 5 hour battery span when I'm NOT using it. I've been generally good with this phone, no major bad falls....and never took it for a test swim.

No problems with any of my samsung phones. I've used S, SII, Galaxy Nexus, and others for just over a year each. I've resold all and not any complaints back.

In it's defense, I had an iphone 4 go "bad" on me similarly.

After a year, the speaker just stopped working, and I'd get no reception outside on a clear day, I'd have to restart the phone and it'd happen again after randomly.

I'd like to think the latest generation of phones (not just Samsung) have had time to straighten their stuff out...lol

With the S2 being such a thin phone I wouldnt be surprised if even a moderate drop/constant bashing and thrashing in a full purse would cause it to have some problems after only a year.

That being said, it could also just be things wearing out prematurely?

samsung products in general are the same way; that's why i don't get how they're able to hold Sony back from regaining the top spot (in televisions anyway)

I had my S2 for almost 2 years and it was still fine...
In fact, with the JellyBean update it was even smoother than before!!

Try a factory reset and JellyBean update..
Or even better if you can flash some custom kernel!

My focus works even after being launched at 30km/h towards a concrete floor.

Factory reset and firmware upgrade normally will fix most problems.

I also used my SGS (not rooted) for 3.5 years. Started lagging bad last year and started to freeze regularly this past week. I still think smartphones are meant to last ~2 years (thus the anger and frustration with 3 year contracts).

I didn't know Jellybean update came out for the S2. That's quite the surprise since it shows that Samsung is willing to support their old flagships as far as humanly possible.

i wouldnt say this is a samsung thing.. its a smartphone thing, how else are they going to move everyone into their next product yet they wanna keep you with their product so they all have their own little perks and upgrade slowly ei.. slightly faster, better battery or storage when in reality they updates could be so much better, yay for technology having us by the nuts!
