I saw a commercial about it and decided to go check out how it works it's kind of a neat Dodge Dart Registry > Home (http://www.dodgedartregistry.com) you build your car to the way you like or can afford after sponsors

from the website's FAQ
Dart Registry is a new way to buy a car. It's a website that lets you configure a Dodge Dart the way you want it and ask your friends, family and social network to help sponsor parts of it. The goal is for your Dodge Dart to get fully funded by your network and get you on the road in your new vehicle.

There are six easy steps:
Customize your Dodge Dart.
Create an account for your Dart:
Describe the account in words, images and video
Set the funding goal and fund-raising timeframe
Tell everyone you know about your page, and keep up the communication to create buzz and momentum.
Raise your funds:
Raise money from anywhere within the United States
Keep the funds you raise, minus the fees below:
Reach your goal: 5% commission fee + 4% payment processing fee
Don’t reach your goal: 5% commission fee + 4% payment processing fee
Get paid out fast as soon as your registry ends
Go to your nearest Dodge dealer and buy your Dodge Dart.
Thank all of your friends and family.

Dodge Dart Registry > Sponsor a Registry > Campaign Detail (http://www.dodgedartregistry.com/campaign/detail/102) this is a random persons that has some parts funded if you want to see how it works

it'll be interesting to see if they can sell many cars through this, your opinions?

They are far from desperate but if chrysler didnt have the Jeep brand and the Caravan they'd be screwed

The dart should of been offered with an SRT Dart from the very beginning. Something along the lines of ~300hp ~250ft/lbs etc.

It's a neat concept. It's just too bad that the new Dart if fugly as hell. They desperately need an SRT variant soon.

Maybe when they got rid of the lease program the sales really dropped. I saw a google ad on this forum saying leasing is back.

Leasing has finally come back to Chrysler! Is leasing a new vehicle right for you? Read on..... (http://www.gododge.ca/blog/2012/nov/29/leasing-has-finally-come-back-chrysler-leasing-new/)

I went through the registry and set one up. Its pretty simple but you don't get to find out what the final price is once your "construction" is complete, and even if you get your full funding not all of it goes to the car itself.

Your donations are appreciated, ladies and gentlemen. Every dollar counts!

i work at Chrysler and these things in person actually arnt that bad and i expected them to be terrible, and the rallye model actually sounds pretty good also, its a given that there will be an srt version assuming the normal dart does become popular

it is sad that they named it dart tho.. clearly a neon haha

I suppose they didn't intend for the original Dart to be used as a muscle tuner back in the 60s and 70s so for that era, it was the equivalent of the Neon was in the 90s and 00s.

I'll admit I'm a "purist" when it comes to these things and the rebadged Holden that Pontiac released about six years ago as a "GTO" was disappointing to see, considering how iconic the original was.

Their best strategy would be to release a solidly build vehicle like the Japanese cars of the 80s and 90s that caused so many of us to gravitate to communities like this and let people turn them into icons instead of building cars and trying to exploit the memories people have of these from yesteryear.

I'm sure part of their strategy included an aging baby boomer population who probably owned the relatively inexpensive Darts in their youths, have good memories of the cars, and will buy these cars for their children or grandchildren.

That being said:

I may end up buying a 2040s Civic or Integra for my grandchildren so they may be on to something here.

My buddy bought the limited model, severely overpaid for it, but damn, the interior is amazing. Just loaded with sweet features. Build quality seems pretty good too. Drives alright but is slow.

Surprised nobody has asked the question yet: why the fuck would I help YOU buy YOUR car instead of putting my $10 into my own car (or up my nose, or whatever)?

^ For $1, EB will decide what your new avatar/sig will be. Then you'll have to pay even more to change it back..

THIS is a 2013 Dodge Neon with a different name

I get the sentiment, but really the old Dodge Dart was really just a Valiant with a different name.

You could even say the Barracuda was a Dart with a different name...

They were all based on the Chrysler A-Body platform.

Actually this new Dodge Dart does not share the Neon's PL platform. It shares the Fiat "Compact" platform with other cars such as the Fiat Viaggio and the Alpha Romeo Giulia.

if they do lets just hope it's better than the srt-4 caliber my neighbour had a neon srt-4 and the caliber srt-4 (not at the same time) but the neon wasn't awful the caliber was though :heckno:

most dodge darts looked more like this, and had a slant six that made significantly less power than the new ones 4 banger.

I was thinking about this the other day when I saw a Dart(new one).

First...this happens ALL the time when they bring back a name, because they automatically make that connection...supposed to be positive, but can be negative too.

Realistically, there should be 'something' that connects the models. But whatever.

I was thinking more along the lines of Dodge and Chrysler. They were American, then entered a bad marriage with Germans. Now we don't know what the results will be of the marriage with the Italians.

But surely, they should be on top.

They should be the best of German, american and now Italian manufacturing.

Let's hope they start coming out with some cool models that show the best of all worlds.

True, but that old slant-6 was fucking indestructible. My dad had an '81 Dodge pickup with the slant-6... it was at about 438,000km when he put the truck out to pasture in '87 (yeah, only 6 years later). My sister ran the thing dry of oil once, and it kept going... drank a whole four-liter jug just going between Van and 100 Mile House after that, but it just kept on going. You could hear the timing chain rubbing, it was so stretched out, but that motor would not quit.
