I accidentally bent a few pins on my Asus motherboard and it doesn't work anymore. I called Asus and they say I can ship it to them to fix but it'll cost $120 minimum. I got the motherboard for less than $100 so it doesn't even make sense for me to ship it to them. Is there anywhere local that I can get it fixed or is it a write-off?

Are you talking about the cpu pins? I don't think anybody fixes those locally. At $120 you might as well buy a new mobo.

The only way to fix this properly is to solder on a new socket (cost $120). You can try and fix it yourself for the challenge. I recommend you find a 10X microscope and some good tweezers. I can't see it being possible without these two tools.

If you decide to throw it away, I may be interested.

^ that. anything over $100, buying a new mobo would be a better choice. depending how old your mobo is, it might be an upgrade unless it forces you to buy new parts. then thats a different story.

cpu pins.. wouldn't that be on the cpu if it is bent not the motherboard?
i assume it is an AMD, since Intel has not had pins on retail cpu's since socket 478 single core cpu days

if they are motherboard capacitors, they can be replaced by any steady handed person that can hold a soldering iron..

Sorry. I mean the socket pins. I was monkeying with the mobo after I took the CPU out and I slipped and bent some pins. Guess the concensus is that it's a write off. Not worth the trouble anyways. May as well use it as an excuse to buy another one. Haha

You cant fix bent pins, most likely Asus would've just shipped you a refurbished motherboard.. Just buy a used/new one.

Bent like 5-6 pins and used tweezers to unbend them
Still worked afterwards :fuckyea:

Probably won't work with the new CPU pins on the motherboard. They're way more fragile hence the need to include the socket protector on all new Intel motherboards.

I've been having a bit of bad luck with motherboards lately and the MSI MPower I got has a bent pin. How do you get a bent pin like this??
