I remember playing E1 last year in ASHL Burnaby and it was brutal. Its like tier 4 in ice 604. My team lost every game except one I think.

A lot of teams drop a div because theres no "A" division so the join division "B" the teams in D2B (one div above E) comes down to E for spring/summer.

Came here to rant a bit, but man I hate when idiots take the chirping into the post-game and handshake. After the game, it should be all class no matter what happened on the ice.

Beat a team 9-5, on the last shift some guy tries to toe drag through me and I just close my feet, take the puck, and tell him he's terrible. Chases me all over the ice trying to get me to fight, chirping etc, and in the handshake tells me to "watch your fucking back". Seriously, grow up. It's beer league.

I played a co-ed game in Delta, where the guys from both teams change in one room, and the girls change in the other. It was great getting changed in the beginning, before the game. The other goalie was old and not very flexible, while I was stretching on the other side of the room showing off a 22" butterfly (that's pretty wide...) I felt like I was getting in their heads.

The problem came after the game. We won 5-2, and I got in their heads. Nothing douchey, just little barbs, eye contact, and making some spectacular saves. My inner Holtby came out. I call it, little Holtby. He's funny, but that's another story for another thread.

At any rate, their top scorer didn't like me that night. I shut him down, and made a "nice shot" comment after stoning him on a breakaway. It was a legit compliment, but he didn't take it as such. So while our team was laughing and joking and enjoying our win, we had this other team glaring at us from the other side of the room. After about 5 minutes I made a couple buddies on the other team, giving compliments about their play and their camaraderie. But Monsieur top scorer refused to be nice. I said goodbye before I left the room, and the others reciprocated while he answered with "fuck you too". Well then..... I bid you good day sir.

Pub nights are ok, just need to sell a lot of tickets and find a pub that will give you a good deal on burger/beer. Time consuming though. Don't do everyone splits the money because you will get one person not sell as many tickets as the others and everyone benefits from it.

Poker nights are decent.

I've been doing fundraisers for 3 years now, and the most profitable is a liquor draw.
Basically spend $200 on various bottles of booze, and sell tickets for the draw. 3 tickets for $5, and you'll need to sell 40 tickets to break even. That's like 4 per team member to break even. Everyone loves the chance to get a $30 bottle of Rum for $5.

With 15 team members last season we made almost $1500 on the booze drive alone, and that's after taking into account the $300 in booze we offered.

For league fees most guys will just pay up. But a booze drive could cut those costs by a few hundred bucks, and you don't even have to stand outside of the Save On selling apples.

I'd rather just pay the league fees than fundraise for it. There's so much planning/logistics involved with fundraisers that unless the whole team is paid for, it's not worth it.

For jerseys, I think it's easier to find sponsors than it is to do a fundraiser.

Obviously my personal opinion.

*edit - that raffle idea is pretty good. Liquor might get sticky if govt gets knowledge of it.. iPad is another good option.

I think it depends what tier you're in. I know in T1 it's a "Memorial Cup style" where the tier is trimmed by 1-7 and 2-6 matchups, and the rest of the teams play for seeding.

edit: It looks like all tiers have a "pool" system where teams play each other for seeding, and the top whatever teams in each "pool" cross over with each other

It really depends on which div you are in. Div's 12 and 13 only have 4 teams each so that is one vs 4 and 2 vs 3 where the winners play for the cup.
Div 3 and 7 have 6 teams so they play some best of 3 playoffs where the top 2 teams from each side play again in a final 4 format and then again as a final 2.
It is not the normal playoff formats.
Someone told me it isn't even a best of 3 game playoffs for div's 12 and 13. I think it is based on goals for.

Right. For you guys, round 1 is a 3 team round robin for your pool so best record moves on. Makes sense not to waste time with a shoot out. Extra time wasted means more cost for ice rental for Ice604.
Basically, you guys are almost sure win to move into the finals unless that team wins by 4 or more goals.
The way I understand it, if they win by 3, then it will be based on goals against.

Yep! We've lost many one goal games in the regular season from open guys in front of the net... I try my best yelling at them.. it works sometimes LOL
