London drugs. Read the label carefully though, it only works for a very specific type of hair loss.

I can tell you that you save A TON more buying online than locally. Online you are looking at 10 bucks a month supply, whereas locally, at least 30. I am talking about the generic Minoxidil.
TIP: start using it at the first sight of thinning, and stay on it. If you are already pretty bald, it isn't going to help.

it seems the one u linked me is a bit more expensive?

it's pretty much meant for male pattern baldness.. google it and you will find out what that is... pretty much genetic and not caused by stress or illness etc...

I read a little bit that it depends on your mom side because it carries from the Y chromosome or something like that. Ask your mom about your grandfather if he's bald.
Also, before going rogaine or the likes, consult your family doctor and have him recommend you a dermatologist. They can determine the reason why you're thinning.
Hair loss can be the cause of many things like A and B vitamin deficiency, thyroid problems, lack of exercise, the use of specific shampoo, the use of hair dryer, stress and obviously diet.
There was a site where a girl posted her progress on combing her hair and her hair grew back because she was stimulating her hair follicles. If I find it again I'll post it. She had receding hairline though.
Anyways, if you have brittle nails, one thing I recommend trying is taking B-complex vitamins, especially biotin. They're water soluble so even if you take too much, it'll come out of your system when you take a piss. I bought 30mcg biotin and tried it for about a month and a half and noticed my hair got thicker, but I am still losing hair. There was actually a couple of months where I noticed my hair growing back faster than it was losing, and it was the time where I had least stress.

it's genetics plain and simple. yes it COULD be other factors, but for men, the majority of the time it is MPB. If you did your research, you would have also learned that it may not be only linked to your mom's side.

Also IIRC it only works for the back of your head (the "bald spot") not the top ("receding hairline")

they can only claim that it works for the back of the head because that's where they tested it when the drug was in trials. If you think about it it, it shouldn't matter where the hair is, minoxidil is known to stimulate hair follicles by increasing blood flow to that area.

They claim that because that is what the research and testing supports. Hair loss can be different depending on area... I haven't used it myself, but if you google it you might find out whether people have had success with monoxidil on their temples. I doubt they do, but who knows

usually when your hair has receded to the point where you can notice it, all you can hope for is keeping what you have. goes for baldness on the crown as well. by the time you see just scalp, there are no more active follicles, that is why it is recommended to start treatment as soon as you start noticing. I personally believe rogaine can be used for receding hairlines but you won't get the results you want since it will be more for maintenance.
You guys who are using or thinking of using rogaine should seriously consider using saw palmetto extract as well. google it.

if there is hair, there is a chance they can regrow thicker with rogaine... the "baby" hairs are basically your thick hairs miniaturizing. Post a pic. Could be your hairline maturing.. sometimes hairlines will recede a bit and then stop.. sometimes itll keep going and lead to full out balding.

how much did you pay? you can get it online for pretty cheap too... i cant believe local stores are still selling month supplies for 30+ bucks, and rogaine(the actual brand) still has them for 40ish bucks.

ive been on 5% foam for the last 2 months and havnt noticed anything yet, there are other things you can use to help aid, shampoo with less perfumes in them, other supplements the aid your diet, and like posted earlier saw palmetto. if you are desperate then consider that before a transplant

shave/buzz your head and see how you look. if you can pull it off, go for that look. Also, if you are willing to wait until technology is where you don't have to get a "transplant", where stem cells are used to regenerate hair follicles.. you may not want to hold your breath though as this "new tech" was supposed to be around the corner.... 10 years ago.

my experience with rogaine is that if only really works with hair that is already there/thinning.. if the follicle is dead or your hair really really fine, it may not thicken. Rogaine is a follicle stimulant, which means itll help maintain what is there for the most part (and increase the hair quality).
Things such as propecia and medications block/prevent the formation of DHT which is responsible for MPB. Your BEST option is to use a combination of stimulant (rogaine) and a DHT inhibitor (Saw palmetto/propecia).
Also, Nizoral is shown to have anti androgenic effects (ie washes surface DHT from the scalp)... Those above are called the "big three" in the MPB community.

whats ur routine spidey?
who said i used? lol jk.
rogaine 2x a day. in the morning and night
saw palmetto 160mg 2x a day (make sure you get the extract which is a gelcap not the powder stuff)
nizoral shampoo 3-4 times a week.
alpecin caffeine shampoo daily
After this year I may stop using the rogaine... I am not sure if it is doing anything other than making the current hair i have grow super fast.. mind you my crown is not thinning, but I am thinning/receding a bit at the temples. I had been using saw palmetto a couple years back and stopped.. when I stopped it appeared that my recession start again, but it could be just in my head/timing.. I started up on the saw palmetto again and if it does work, I will keep on it, and maybe go off the rogaine. I have been using rogaine consistently for the last 4 years.

I have before pics but no after. All in all nothing has changed much, which to me, is a good thing. if you notice some thinning and receding, I would start treatment (whatever route you choose). Most treatments are more for maintaining than regrowth. If you are at the point where you see massive bald spots or recession where no hair is growing at all, it's probably too late. Most people start when they are bald and are hoping for a miracle.
I haven't had any side effects to note from the saw palmetto.

nope.. never used it... are you at all covered by work? if you are, you may be able to get your doc to prescribe you FIN under "prostate" medication and just take the appropriate dosages so it is covered.. if you aren't then you probably have to do some googling for reputable places online....
oh yea, you can get saw palmetto extract online for cheap... i just got my order .. 6 months worth for 24 shipped. they are about 20 bucks for a 2 month supply locally... this is the one i got.. buy 1 get 2 free :). probably even cheaper if you have a postal box in the states http://www.puritan.com/puritans-pride-brand-0102/saw-palmetto-standardized-extract-320-mg-000293?scid=26529
and of course as mentioned earlier, i get my minox from here... http://www.minoxidildirect.com/Minoxidil_International.htm
nizoral you can get anywhere... loblaws chains are usually cheapest at reg price but you can watch out for sales as wel... actually i am sure costco is cheapest but i don't shop there
