: Best curry and beef brisket in the GVRD?

I feel bad for making a new thread for this, but there weren't any threads to bump where it would be appropriate.

So I'm looking for your typical HK Cafe curry and beef brisket, but the best in the area. I've heard tons of good things about Mui Garden, but unfortunately they closed their North Road location (are they still open on Victoria Drive?).

Any other suggestions?

Personally like the Malaysian curry place at the Yoahan food court. Inlaws who've lived in Malaysia claims it's not authentic though. Regardless, I like it.

Another +1 for Mui Garden. I've only tried it at the Victoria Dr and Richmond locations. There's also one on main, iirc.

Correct. Between E. 26th and E. 27th Ave, on the west side of Main.

I think the Mui Garden on Victoria Dr. is the best one. Tried the one on North Rd before and curry tasted different. Rice was wet and soggy too. ughh

Mui Garden is good.

I also like to goto James (previously louis garden) on hastings and slocan. Very fast and open late.

I liked Curry King on Kingsway, but it was quite $$$ compared to other HK style cafes when I went there last time.

Use to eat that for work lunch all the time. But since I don't work in Richmond anymore, I just buy a huge tub to split into individual portions now. Ends up much cheaper, especially in comparison to anything in downtown.

IMO, food courts in general are no longer "economical". Once their food prices shot up to about the same as eating in, I didn't see a point in going anymore.

Does anyone know the best curry beef brisket available 24 hours a day? Only one I currently know of is No. 9 at Landsdowne. Would prefer to find some in Downtown or Burnaby.

My personal favs in this order

1. Mui Garden (Vancouver - Main St). Malay Coconut Curry style
2. Flo Tea House in Richmond. Malay Coconut Curry Style
3. The food stall in Parker place that specializes in "Wagon Noodles". They serve the HK style. Run of the mill tumeric powder plus whatever they put in it (no coconut milk taste). But the beef brisket + tendon (they use mainly tendon with bits of meat) is very well done - never ever gristly or fatty and always tender!

I love to hear people's other recommendations. I'm quite the curry beef brisket connoisseur and always looking for new places to overtake my top 3!

the only thing i dont like about mui garden is that there are not other veggies... some red peppers or brocolli would be nice...

Do Mui Garden on Main or Victoria sell take out curry (with no rice on side)?

Mix veggie curry with beef curry?

I don't care about the beef. Potatoes+curry+oily rice= :sweetjesus:

For the past 4-5 years the complex it's in has looked pretty dead. It was closed a few years back because of "a kitchen fire", but since then every time I drove by the parking around it looked empty.

I guess it was only a matter of time.

Changed my mind. Went to Mui Garden on Victoria and it's not as good as James. Meat was grisly, sauce not as good.

Only good thing was that Mui Garden was insanely fast with my pickup order. 5 mins.

Took a bit of time to read your comment lol

Is James a new curry spot? And when you say the meat is grisly, do you mean that it wasn't cut right? :)

And if taking out takes that little time something's gotta be off.

For such a popular menu item, the curry beef brisket is almost always readily available. Most Asian places prefer take out customers because you're in and you're out within minutes.

+1 Mui Garden... I didn't know the one on North Road closed?? It's still listed on their website... anyway I used to go there specifically for the curry beef brisket.. SO GOOD.
Good to know they have other locations as well.

I have fond memories of Mui Garden's curry beef brisket, but I now find it undercooked. It's no longer as soft as what I remember.

It's too chewy for me and the tendons haven't had a chance to break down.

I'm going to try this James place.

Otherwise, I'm just going to have to learn to make my own curry.
