Anybody try these before? This is the first year where they are somewhat readily available locally and maybe just second or third year they are available in North America.
Basically it's a hybrid citrus originally from Japan but started to grow in California in recent years. They're known to be very sweet, easy to peel and seedless, and were pretty hyped up in the (ugh) foodie-verse the past few years The Dekopon has arrived, at last - latimes.com (http://www.latimes.com/features/food/la-fo-dekopon-20110217,0,3259483.story)
Anyway, I got a chance to try it out today, and I must say it lives up to the hype. It tastes like a very sweet tangerine/mandarin orange, soft and juicy in texture, very fragrant.
They're relatively pricey ($2.99/lb) but it's worth a try.
