Psu fan in my moms pc is slowly dying. Naturally, i need to replace it but am unsure of how I'm supposed to measure it's dimensions.

It measures 85mm horizontally across but that doesn't appear to be a size listed on any computer parts supplier websites. It is however 120mm when measured diagonally. Plenty of 120mm fans available for sale but the fan in the psu uses a 2pin connector whereas all the ones available are 4pin's.

Should I just buy a new psu entirely? Replacing just the fan seems to be strange given the difficulty in locating a replacement part.

if it's a POS psu then just replace the whole unit

to be honest you should not be replacing anything in a PSU. Just replace the whole unit

Ya, I figure I'll just replace the damn thing. Was trying to save her money that's all.

unless you have the skill and necessary tools to determine the problematic part and then to replace them (assuming it wasn't anything major) I don't think you could ever come out cheaper than buying new

The problem is definitely isolated to the fan as it sounds like it's struggling at times. Probably the bearing or something but regardless I will be swapping the whole unit

Don't mess with the innards of a PSU. You can get electrocuted easily! just replace the whole thing.

most PSU fans wire to the circuit board. I had my old dead PSU fan replaced and wired to the molex connector, nothing wrong at all.
