not gonna be registering my car for this even though i just picked up new Volks and repainted my car last year. I registered for DTP a few years ago at the same venue and i'm not gonna be paying to park my car outside in a parkade ever again ...hope there will be an all indoor show again soon, i miss those days.

If the sun shines i might check out the show otherwise i'll check out the pics on RS :)

^^ DTP by yokohama that year wasnt fun for anyone, our cars got wet outdoors and had to wait til rain stops then wipe off quickly while the judges are on their way to judge.
Luckily we all got tents to hide under...then it started rain all over again.

I miss the old days of importshows, mostly all indoors, we all knew each other and our car classes and competition, everyone had been working hard for months to debut, scn in may; dtp by toyo in june, summer gatherings and cruises and importfest in november, best part was we didnt mind paying reg. fees it was good healthy competition and bragging rights hahah (plus we need to support our sponsors)...we all worked hard and shook hands near end when trophies were called, the feel when on stage with your new trophy, and best part was when we all finished prepping; judging; showcased; all the owners would be outside smoking and talking to one another about whats been new...
I remember seeing the old crews either napping or chatting next to their cars...

Ahh... Memories...

Shoutouts to the serious competitiors... If anyone remembers... RS booth in 2002, ajr, bpt, revolution, g5, is-impressions, team celica, vac, vpc, vcc, 604civicclub, teamtoyo, teamworks, team menace, vader speed and sound, euro projectz, rev competition, the independence guys that rolled in solo and still took recognition... And so much more...

I guess I'm in the minority.. I went to these kinds of shows to see some awesome cars and what could be done to them. (and a few half-assed shitty cars, that somehow won a trophy...?) If I wanted to see a bunch of skanky whores (sorry.. models) I'd just hit up a bar downtown.

I guess the one benefit to going to a bar.. don't have to sneak in the alcohol. We always used to do that at the old 'indoor' import car shows.. ahh, memories.

You know what?? i used to sneek in alcohol at shows also! ahh the oldskool days!!! since this is a free show i doubt there will be any security so if you decide to go you can probably bring some in.

I registered for my free ticket in case i wanna go. If its sunny i might stop by, if it rains i probably won't. It's not like i'll lose any $$$ if i decide not to go.

ImportFest isn't totally free forever. The free tickets are only available till April 31st, after that date, im certain they would charge some $$ for their tickets.

Vancouver, population wise, is not half as large as Seattle, Los Angeles, San Fran, etc., yet Revscene managed to become a huge forum on cars, thanks to its founders, moderators, and volunteers and of course, the car enthusiasts in Vancouver.

So, yes, Sponsors and advertisers will pay big bucks to advertise to car enthusiasts in Vancouver.

Obviously, ImportFest would not do a show unless they have a good handle on the money part of the equation.

The best part... is that they managed to make it free and that will draw a much larger crowd than if it was not free.

Wow, there sure seems to be a lot of haters in the room. Personally I'm glad to see ImportFest come back. Last I recall was back in '04 which was one of the first shows I ever entered. Had a blast got to meet a lot a nice people, see some hot models and just fun overall. It may not be BC Place or the Convention Centre (which is BIG bucks), but at least all these sponsors and vendor are making a huge effort for everyone's entertainment. I for one am glad they are back supporting car culture in the west coast as there hasn't been too much action in the past few years besides the RS meets.

^^ yep. Importfest judges seeks the most outdone vehicles to enter and compete, ranges from all qualifications: interior/upholstery, exterior/bodywork, audio/ice, engine/ forced fed/ swapped, conversions f/r, wheels/tires, suspension/footworks, paint/graphics, presentation, models help too :)
(Theres probably more rules and qualifications.... Above ones were what I went through in 2002-2005)

High standards hence why they're canada's biggest and baddest show...

Aint easy achieving top 3 in class... Winning 1st was rewarding ;-)
