on reddit there are some whiskey sharing groups where someone will buy a number of expensive whiskeys, decant them into glass bottles at several ounces per bottle, label the decanted bottles, and everyone splits the cost. for example, 10 people participate, 10 750ml bottles are split, everyone gets 75ml of each bottle, everyone pays for the cost of the bottles evenly. someone set that up here? i'd be interested if there were enough peeps.
A friend of mine started a whiskey club in 2019 and of course we weren't able to do our monthly meets in 2020 so for Christmas he did a whiskey advent for December. Came out to $160 per person

My friends are mostly the Forty Creek kind :lol
Slowly work on them and grind them down, creep the price point up slowly haha.
My friends and I usually 3 or 4 of us do the typically Chinese thing. So money never comes up, we don't ever actually split the cost of any bottle nor do we keep track of anything. We all buy bottles on our own time of our own kind whenever and at some point we'll randomly meet up and you just bring it, nothing needs to be said or discussed in advance. Sometimes there will be 2, 3 or even 4 bottles and we'll just drink it. Normally it'll range between $150 - $800 bottles and most certainly if we have more than 1 bottle then we will have one lower end and one higher end and the reason is once you get smashed enough it's sort of pointless drinking the balling stuff because it'll kind of just taste the same as your $150 stuff.

John Walker & Sons Celebration Blend
This is an extraordinary blend, rich in taste and the finish is endless.
It's bottled at 51%, and a rule of thumb with whiskies is that- the higher the alcohol content it's bottled at, the better the alcohol attaches and holds onto the flavours. Regulars are bottled at 40% or 43% for example.
Now, this blend has grain whiskeys, so this is not on the Johnnie Walker Green Label malt-blend level.
However, this one is exceptional in taste.
I am not going into details on the nose or taste, as everyone perceives it differently.
-Nose: rich honey, sticky syrup, green apples, red apples
-taste: nutmeg, honey, concentrated apple juice
I drank it is small small sips, yet the flavours and the development is endless. The flavours literally comes in waves. 30 seconds after swallowing, a development of sour apple juice with sweet nectar appears on the tongue.
Do note, I tried it neat and also with a few wee drops of water.
It tastes fabulous when consumed neat IMO.

I'm running through that whole advent line up again since I didn't pour out the whole contents of each bottle as I wanted to have a second taste around. I'm back at the top of the order at #3 but from what I remember JW&Sons Celebration was one of my faves. Other ones I really enjoyed was Glenmorangie Cake, Macallan Edition 6 and Blantons Gold(I really like bourbon a lot). Def least fav was Alberta Premium Cask Strength. That shit burned like MOFO!!! I did neat and drops of water and it was by far undrinkable for me. It might make a good cocktail though.

lol! I have APCS as well, if you aren't used to drinking cask strength or high proof I can see it being hard to enjoy. Tips would be to let it sit for 20 minutes before tasting and take small sips to get acclimated. I can definitely see it holding up in a cocktail lol.

Not sure why I’m creating more competition for myself, but BCL is having a draw for the opportunity to purchase some Pappy Van Winkle and other brands here: https://www.bcliquorstores.com/promotion/jan-2020-pappy/draw
You’re supposed to go to a BCL store and scan a barcode, which I did, but thought I’d save some the trip. And likely some cash as well.. I know I ended up stocking up a little bit :lol

The Abunadh is a sherry bomb and keep in mind its cask strength. Arran Sherry Cask is another good candidiate if you are looking at ABunadh.
Look into Glenallachie too, anything from the current line up at BCL is pretty solid.

So it turns out after hanging out with a buddy last week and trying some very nice scotches, I'm a peat guy.
We tried a bunch of different Ardbegs and such, and out of the 8-10 we tried (I got plastered), I liked Uigeadail the most.
I'll probably end up grabbing a bottle of it this week, but if I wanted something more mid-level, with that similar smoke, any suggestions?
I was thinking Laphroaig 10 year? Would that be a good fit?
Keep in mind I don't like Sherry.

Within a similar price range of Uigedail, see if you can find Glenlivet Nadurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish. If you want to ball out a bit, Balvenie Week of Peat 14 Year. Both should be available through BC Liquor. If you want to take the peat to the extreme end, try Port Charlotte.

The Balv 14 Caribbean Cask is signficantly sweeter than the DW, it was probably my least favourite in the line-up, although still delicious. I know the 15 is more than double the price but it's Sherry Cask which would be right up your alley. I loved it.

It's readily available at the BC Liquorstore!
This particular bottling is a limited release run, and it seems quite plentiful at the moment. But once they sell out, they will be gone for good.
Quick note, after polishing more than half a bottle of it, drinking this one "neat" is the way to go. Experimented with a few drops of water, and it took away the overall excitement of the flavours.

For some reason when I search both John Walker and Johnnie Walker it doesn't appear.
I had to type in "Celebratory Blend" to finally get the result... lol what a ghetto system for a government site.
While on that topic, I just realized they removed the BCL app from the store? I reset my phone and I couldn't re-download it but my friend says the app still works for him.

The app called BCLiquor right?
I still have it on my iPhone, but honestly, you're not missing out much.
They have since then disconnected the app from a lot of the API (AD/Sync/database refresh). So the original BCLiquor app is very unreliable and clunky now.
They replaced it with "my Cellar".
This is an in-browser tool only I think. On the top of the BC liquor store webpage, you should see a yellow star in a yellow circle.
If you create an account via "my Cellar" it pretty much does everything that the original BCLiquor app does. Creating wishlists or watch-lists for example.
The downside of this in-browser thing is that you have to log-in every single time, and it's simply not an easy access like the app was.

So I cracked open the JW Celebratory. Wow.
Nose: Plummy/raisiny, honey, spicy
Palate: Spice, cinnamon(?), honey, vanilla, leathery/tobacco, very jammy and thick feel on the tongue. Very smooth for a 51% no water needed. Lovely lingering finish, coats your tongue/mouth a bit. Lasts a long time.
Great drink. I think someone on Reddit mentioned that it reminds him of JW Blue, and both my brother and I agree that it does kind of. Really good bottle, I will probably pick up another to keep for a bit since it's a limited release.

@RoastPuff
Just for kicks, i pulled a list of the dataset that the government makes public, and I filtered the whiskey by their alcohol contents.
Other whiskies that have comparable offerings with alcohol contents at 51% or so; are significantly more expensive. So this oddball JW Celebratory blend is decently priced.
@Punkwax
Every other guy on Reddit likes to bash JW Blue a bit and do the usual bandwagon thing.
And in my opinion, I think the regular version fo the JW Blue smells absolutely fruity and marvellous on the nose.
But on the palate, it tastes like a 10 year old, and has a burn like the Ardbeg 10.
If you do go for the JW Blue, skip the regular versions and go for the special release versions (not just some fancy box and decorations)
-few years back, the Blue Ghost version is the one to get.
-currently, there's the Blue Legendary Eight, this is the one to pick up, but it's priced at $599.
But skip straight to the JW celebratory blend when in doubt.
Omg I should work for Diageo lol

A buddy of mine received an offer-email from the draw today, and he won a Van Winkle 10 year old.
Hence, I'm super jelly lol.

I'm assuming they have multiple bottles or nobody is claiming it?

They have multiple bottles of everything I’d imagine.. just limited amounts hence the lottery.

Just for fun, I also entered the draw for the O.F.C and the Double Eagle VR

Heads up for everyone. This one isn't "Pappy". It's Van Winkle 12 year. Not the same thing as Pappy Van Winkle. It sells in the US for $80 MSRP. Because of the hype, people snatch it up like the Pappy and try and flip it for hundreds. The reviews I've seen give it around 3 stars.
I don't think I'd pay $200 plus tax CAD for it :fuckthatshit:

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen
Apologies if this has been asked before, but has anybody found any stores local that carry Virginia Black?
I know BCL can bring in a case if needed, but would like to try one bottle first before committing.
Thanks in advance

No unfortunately. There's tons in Ontario. So if you have a buddy just ask him to grab it and pack very well and ship it to you.

I've had it before, overly syrupy sweet with not much character. Much much better options out there for that price range.
My go-to this summer has been the Glenlivet Caribbean Cask, refreshing, light and smooth.

Forgot about it until now. Checked online and it says pre-order ended early cause of technical issues lol. It was supposed to run until Oct 30 haha
Online pre-order from October 28 starting 12 noon until October 30 11:59 p.m. PST. Pre-orders will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Participating stores listed below.
We have experienced technical issues due to popular demand, the Premium Spirit Pre-Order Event has ended earlier than anticipated. The Draw is still open for entries until Saturday, October 30th at 11:59 pm (PST). Products available by store for the November 13th In-Store Release will be displayed online November 8th. We appreciate your continued support.

BCL has such a crooked system, until I have the bottles in my hand, I'd consider them in the hands of a bcl employee haha

Is it worth the premium/hype? My bourbon level is the usual buffalo trace, makers and Woodford.

Does anyone know how often the 'premium spirits', since the last one held in Nov? How many times a year are they held?

There's usually a mini one in the summer but mainly bourbon. The big one is always in the fall.
