I am finding that pimples are constantly appearing on my face and wondering if you guys got suggestions to stop this ?

About myself:

-Don't eat fried foods or oily foods (diet is rice, vegatables, meat, fruits in equal portions)
-Don't drink coffee
-wash my face once every hour
-Don't take any sort of vitamins
-Drink more than 8 cups of water/day
-Non-smoker or drinker
-Get 7.5 hours of sleep each day but I sleep at 2 30am each night
-Don't use any sort of face lotion except "Vaseline"

What do you guys think?

Surprisingly enough, I find that being non-stressed and non-depressed actually helps quite a bit.

You don't need to wash your face every hour. Just make sure your face is moisturized enough not to continuously produce oil on your dry skin. I wash my face once in the morning, then I take a shower or two some time during the day, then I wash up before I sleep. I also apply a little dab of moisturizer. (I use Kiehl mens)

Washing your face too often can make things worse.

Also get a lotion that's non-comedogenic.

go to your family doctor and get the cream tactuo (known as epiduo as well in the states). apply twice a day and you'll be good. theres too many causes for acne, nobody really knows. also use cetaphil as a wash

As others have mentioned, stress?
Get some exercise to de-stress. And washing your face once every hour....what do you wash it with? It sort of sounds excessive. Even if your face gets naturally oily, just get a damp paper towel and wipe it off.

maybe you should try sleeping earlier than 2:30am?

everything on the list seems good, just that part.

+1 for cetaphil. Used in combination with cetaphil moisturizing cream before going to bed, great results.

If you find cetaphil too mild, can always go for Spectro facial wash. They're sold at superstore in the cosmetic section.

And other general rules, change bed sheets frequently, try not to touch your face too much, keep areas moisturized.

I would suggest to stop using vaseline and dont wash your face every hour lol that's too much

Washing face once every hour is going to seriously deprive your face of moisture...

How severe is your acne anyways?

I see. The reason why I asked was because if you had serious acne, oral medicine might have been a good option.

I think the reason why your face becomes so oily if you don't wash your face frequently is probably because you've made your face is accustomed to the habit of constantly removing oil from your face. Its like smokers who constantly spit feel the urge to keep spitting because their saliva glands are constantly producing more to counter the spitting.

Also washing your face with water doesn't really cleanse the skin. You should use cetaphil and non-comedogenic moisturizer.

Do you touch your face often? If yes, you shouldn't. Scratching or popping pimples can make it spread to the surrounding.

any brand of non-comedogenic moisturizer you can reccomend? How much does cetaphil sell for at Superstore? so its located where the shampoos/gel are?

I don't touch my face often. So if i get a pimple, i should just leave it? does it go away once its formed?

Cetaphil has both moisturizing lotion and a face wash, both of them are oil free. The point is to keep your skin hydrated and let it be able to "breathe". Vaseline which contains oil will block your pores from breathing and not letting the acne heal.

how old are you? if it is teenage acne caused by hormones, nothing over the counter will really work. You will need to go on prescription medication if it is that bad. if it is adult acne, I would seriously consider evaluating your diet. When I say evaluate your diet, I don't mean to out junk food. Sometimes acne can be caused by food allergies, dairy, gluten etc. It could be anything though, from hormones, to foods you are/aren't eating, to sleeping with hair product in your hair (i get acne when i sleep without washing my hair and the crap gets on my pillow and on my face overnight).

Skin conditions is usually your body's way of saying that it is expelling toxins that are inside your body.

I was always told that popping zits can cause it to spread, but I personally don't believe it. I rather pop it and risk it spreading than to have a zit sit around and annoy me for days. Even with topical creams, zits last a few days, and is annoying.

I'm 25. I have short hair so I don't really need to gel it or apply hair products. My acne is not really that bad, maybe just like 8-10 small pimples on my skin.

the annoying thing is that once you pop it, the wound doesnt seem to heal and becomes a red/light brown spot on your forehead.

Stop washing your face so often. Maybe only three times a day. And stop using vaseline!! It blocks your pores and your skin can't breathe. Use a waterbase moisturizer. If your face gets too oily, just blot it with tissue paper (dont wipe though or it may irritate your skin)

Changing your moisturizer will definitely change the oil producing behaviour of your skin

Why would you put on vaseline before you go ut?
I heard of putting some below the eyes before bed, to tighten up the skin the next day, but that's it.

And you never pop pimples, it'll scar.

Someone mentioned, definitely change your pillow case nightly. use a t-shirt if you don't have 7 pillow cases.

I just apply bits of it under my eye when i go out thats it. I never apply it to the forehead etc

Then your problem is that you dont use any type of moisturizer. When you dont moisturize your skin gets really dry hence it produces its own oil yo compensate. Start moisturizing... as for waterbased moisturizer...khiels have few for men. I personally like shiseido

i had a really bad acne problem as an early teen. being that young i was trying everything to get rid of it. what really helped was getting any hair away from my face, like if you have long hair or something. also i didnt touch my face after i scratched my head or anything. your hair is really oily and that might be a small problem. after getting rid of the bad habbits acne stopped appearing. what i do now to stop them from showing up is washing my face twice to three times a day. in the morning i'll get a towel and get it wet with warm-hot water. squeeze the water out then wash my face, not so much scrubbing but more like wipping. then i'll repeat this step but with a cold towel. i do this in the morning after the gym and at night. hope this helps!

hmm.. for me, once it is popped, it may be red for a few hours, but settles down pretty fast, unless it is the odd monster pimple lol

so what usually happens if you just let the pimple as it is? does it disappear by itself?

yea they do. from my experience it takes over a week to fully go away (to the point where you can't feel it at all). I don't like it naturally going away because it get to the point where its big and almost unpoppable...

At 25 I would monitor what you are eating.. see if it is more prevalent when you eat certain foods.. Maybe try seeing a food allergist or a Naturopath

Washing your face every hour is extreme. I consider my skin pretty oily and i Only wash my face before and after I get out of bed. The more you wash your face, the oilier your face will get since you are stripping its natural oils (kinda like how people say don't wash your hair too much).

Let's just say I am older than you, lol. I still get zits but the odd one here and there. I had a bit of acne when I was a teen but nothing that concerning. I remember going on a topical solution that was presribed. It went on with those foam type roll on applicators. It was an antibiotic from what I remember. Worked like a charm, but once you sweat, you could smell it lol. And it wasn't cheap.

wow I just googled them up and they are like $24 each so thats $48 for both.

Is that how much they usually cost?

My acne is not really that bad, not like my whole face has pimples. Its just like a few on the both sides of my chin

Try Shoppers? The 500+ mL bottle of Cetaphil cleanser is like $16 IIRC. They last a while, though.

I found I like Cerave products better than Cetaphil, though. The CeraVe moisturizer (blue one in the tub) is cheap and works great (non-comedogenic as well). It "absorbs" very fast so you don't get the greasy lotion-on-skin-feeling for very long.

I've also moved on to Cerave foaming cleanser instead of the Cetaphil gentle cleanser. I tried both, applied each to one half of my face and the Cetaphil side broke out more (by more I mean like 2 pimples compared to none on the Cerave side).

Its not bad, I havent had any major break outs and its keeping my acne to the min.
(The last product I used shiseido, I broke out like mad.. my face looked like someone shot gun me with pimples)

Key things I find that help
- Sleep (7-9 hours)
- Sleep early! (I noticed when i break up its usually when I sleep late at 2-3am, regardless of if i get my 7-9hours)(My brother reacts the same also, he tries to sleep before 12)
- Water! drink lots of it
- Wash your face morning & night, if your face feels really oily during the day just rinse it with some cold water & pat dry

Also... on a side note, for short term, sleep earlier. Ur face heats up as it gets later in the nighrrime. But after pro activ, should solve this too. Good luck.

Give benzoyl peroxide a shot. Medicated face wash that worked for me.

I would stay away from proactive, such a marketing gimick. The main active ingredient in it is benzoyl peroxide but charges a premium price

Pro-activ worked, and this is based on my own experience.

I had a bad case of pimples for about.... I would say a year.

You can buy them at kiosks at malls, so phone up the malls first to make sure the kiosks are still there.

Or, order online.

I only tried Biore AFTER 4 months (around there) of Pro Activ usage.

And, I've been using Biore ever since, but I want to clarify that Pro Activ was the SOLUTION, and Biore (the much cheaper ongoing daily use cleanser) is after Pro Activ.

Have you tried Clarins Men products?

If sleeping early is one of the cures, then it must suck for ppl who work graveyard shifts cause they start work at like 2am-9am....they must have mad pimples then

You used the Shiseido cleanser or moisturizer?

Haven't tried Clarins Men. Sleeping early for myself play a big factor but I have friends who have the most fcked up sleep schedules & work graveyards. They rarely get acne, so it really depends on each individual. You should give it a try though and see if it helps.

Also if you want to try products buy it from The Bay! They have 30day return policy, if the product doesn't work you can bring it back and tell them its not for you.
(I bought the whole Shiseido line around $150-200, used it for 2-3weeks and returned it all and just explained my skin had a bad reaction)

I believe Sephora has a similar return policy, you should ask them about that! Could save you a bunch of $$

It's because everyones skin is different.

I had such an extreme case of acne in my early teens that I used everything.

Oxyclean
Alcohol Wipes
Clearasil
Pro-Active
Acne-Free

And none of them worked. You'd see slight improvement in the first week then it'd revert back to crap..

Thus Acutane (experimentation stage) actually worked for me.
I did get some of the side affects but nothing major. (Really dry skin on the corners of my mouth.. To the point where they'd just crack and bleed thus making me use a antibio. cream supplied by my dermatologist)

haha i always wondered what would happen if you return products to those gold digger sales girls at the cosmetic counters and say their product don't work :lawl:

I also find Spectro face wash quite good as well when I think cetaphil doesnt cut it. Also sold at superstore for 4 different skin types. About $12 for a bottle.
I find Cetaphil quite mild compared to it.

i've been using cetaphil for 2 days full now and my face feels much smoother now. I've also noticed that the scars from the big pimples I popped are starting to heal too, maybe Cetaphil allows moisture into the skin healing the scars

Good to hear that something is working.

I know how it feels with a ton of pimples, and for me personally, it does not feel good at all.... (emotionally, not physically... though sometimes... it does hurt physically on the face).
