Hey guys,

Not sure if this topic has already been discussed, but I would like to hear some of your experiences (if any) on using hydrogen peroxide and baking powder as a whitening agent.

Any sensitivities? How effective was it?

I read that the main ingredient in white strips is H2O2, so I thought I'd give the less expensive way a shot first.

Thanks!

never tried any of those mentioned in your post but cut back on your smoking and coffee and use whitening toothpaste morning, after lunch if possible, then dinner. I've also heard about rubbing your teeth with banana peel can remove stains.

The whitening strips out there isn't for everyone due to difference tolerance level and if you are lucky you might experience a lot of pain. :)

I don't smoke, but I do have a cup of coffee once a day (more during finals). I'll try to cut back on that when school starts. I haven't had any during my break, but having bad withdrawal effects lol.

Thanks for the banana peel suggestion, will definitely give that a try.

Anyone else experiment with H202/Baking powder?

save yourself the trouble. get the crest white strips, put them on for 30 minutes while watching tv/playing games/whatever for 7 days and you'll get results easy.

im too lazy for that though lol so i stopped by costco and picked up 2 bottles of crest 3d white mouthwash for like 12 bucks. keeps mouth fresh and whitens teeth. pretty skeptical that this stuff is gonna work, but i will report back with results

i havnt done the baking soda thing but i will warn you about white strips, after using those things before grad years ago my teeth have been crazy sensitive, they do make a difference but i would suggest a whitening mouthwash followed by brushing your teeth. results may not be as dramatic but i assume it would save your teeth a bit

baking soda does work. it works as a light abrasive/polish, and in fact some whitening toothpastes have it as an ingredient.

Remember, DON'T Scrub!

Just brush at the toothbrush's pressure. Don't exert any pressure at all. You will do more harm than good if you brush like a maniac.

Take your time and do it in a good manner.

^I believe SuperStore has them, that's where I bought mine when it was on sale for like 7 or 8 bucks. You only get about half the tube, not sure why the tube itself needed to be that long... Can't say whether it works or not since I did not consistently use it (using 3D whitening toothpaste)

Do you have a recommendation?

Do you have a recommendation?

From my experience:

- White strips: I recommend 'Crest Supreme'. It has the most hydrogen peroxide % compared to the others. It's not sold in stores but you can get it from eBay. They're a bit pricey and made my teeth really sensitive...

- Rembrandt toothpaste is good but like I said, a bit pricey for only half a tube...

- Nowadays I just use any "whitening" toothpaste with any whitening mouthwash that has "hydrogen peroxide". Just read the back label and check for hydrogen peroxide. It's not the fastest method to get your teeth whiter but it works.

how effective was it lol

be carefull with home remedies,,, specially with that contain citirs or are acidic , cause it losens ur enamel. thats why u dont brush right away after a meal. mixed with seeds in strawberry , it will harm the enamel more than it will help.. just 2 cent

I can't use the Crest Strips as they irritate my gums so I started using a tooth powder called Eucryl, so far so good.

I have also heard that swishing around natural coconut oil can help. cannot confirm though.
