I hope this is not a repost...

So they impounded 13 exotic cars.
12 men, 1 woman.
All under age of 21
Only 1 driver was the registered owner
6 of them had 'N' license

People do stupid things, the FBI is no exception.

Back in 2003, a Ferrari F50 was confiscated by the FBI.
Fast forward to May 2009, an FBI officer decided to go for a joy ride and smashed into a tree.
It was up for a auction and starting price was only $65,000.

Someone sounds young, poor, and jealous. I really think you missed the big picture on that one.

This is clearly an abuse of the law - surely it was intended to capture the proceeds of major commercial crime like volume drug trafficking. Whats next - seizure of your car for an expired parking meter? Seizing your house for watering your lawn on the wrong day?

And do keep in mind - this was a victimless crime -NO ONE was hurt in any way.

Most of the attitude I read in these comments is just a shameful display of simple jealousy. I wish that your actions be judged in the same way someday.

I've got a question.

Does anyone on RS personally know these drivers? How did they react to the seizure, did they get new cars?

There is potential for tragedy everytime you walk out of your front door. The government needs to stop trying to protect the people from themselves. Impliment a HIGH fine for this kind of speeding/racing based on income like they do in other parts of the world and give the guy his car back. That way it's a bit more legit and maybe he has to sell his car to pay for the fine. But at least then they are not taking something that is not theirs and they have no right to take aside from a little piece of paper someone decided to sign years ago for the purposes of confiscating "proceeds of crime." Not driving fast.

good to know that I'm getting through to your biased views that you have to resort to that kind of a response. No, im not a mainlander FYI.

so what do you think of these guys? young, less well off, and tasteless? Hopefully you do so that you at least look consistent here. Funny how there's no insults based on wealth in that thread.

Those mainlanders won't care at all. You only add cool factor and one more story for them to tell their friends.
They will call their parents and say " dad you will need to send more money over. I need to pay my tuitions for next semesters. I got into law school. "
But all they do is fuck around in Vancouver try to film Fast and the Furious 7 illegal money China edition.

The main landers probably buy another car besides it's 50% off for cars in Canada compared to China because they pay a hell of a lot more taxes for their cars

The government should start confiscating cars of those people who are caught texting while driving.
1) The forfeiture laws are written that allow them to do this.
2) It is a far more serious offence then street racing as evidenced by the number of crashes. When was the last time you heard someone getting killed/injured by a street racer? Street racing is a non-issue.

I'm sorry but I seriously think texting is more dangerous than excessive speeding. Assuming that excessive speeder is looking forward.

So how many accidents have you heard of involving street racing in the last 2 years vs. texting? Texting is a statistically far greater problem and we should treat it seriously by confiscating vehicles of those involved.

Don't take my word for it: Ask ICBC

ICBC | Distracted driving (http://www.icbc.com/road-safety/safer-drivers/distractions)

It's the 3rd highest cause of deaths on the road. Why are we focussing on street racing which is a minor issue in comparison?

Timpo
05-09-2013, 10:57 AM
^ this is actually true.

It even says on wikipedia and other google sources Traffic collision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The number 1 cause of accident/death is drinking and driving, without a doubt.
It's actually 40% cause of death caused by traffic accident.

Followed by other causes
Physical Impairment (poor eyesight, poor hearing, poor physical condition, etc)
Distractions (texting, talking on phone, not looking straight ahead)
Youth (less driving experience)
Old Age (slow response, bad eye sight, etc)
Sleep Deprivation (fatigue)
Drug use (prescription, other drugs)
etc...

Street Racing is believe or not, if you look at by percentage, it's only like 0.2% cause of traffic accident.
I know police is making a huge deal about speed and street racing, and Fast and Furious and all that, however DUI is #1 cause of death. And literally hundreds of times more common.

As strange as it sounds, It's much safer to excessive speed (going 120km/h on 80km/h zone) than DUI or text while obeying the speed limit.
