Man, I miss doing the Grouse Grind. Haven't gone since I finished school up at Capilano University (was still just a college back then)... so twelve years now. Used to go every couple days after class and managed to finally hit a best of 41:xx.
Now I'm pretty sure I'll be at the one and a half hour mark. :lol

what kind of shoes are you wearing?
my back hurt the first grind, but I was using heavy hiking shoes.
I switched to lightweight running shoes and it feels much much better!

I used to run the first lil bit too
But I started to just fast walk
And last year I got my PB of 40.0x by walking the first bit, and pushing It during the last 1/4.
If I run the first bit, I feel like I don't have enough juice left in me to push hard during the last 1/4

Usually, my mind gives out near the end and i'm unable to squeeze out that last bit of energy. I always end my hike still having some residual energy so I'm thinking if I run the first bit where my mind isn't beat yet, it'll lead to a faster time lol

Took a few small breaks at the 1/2 and 3/4 mark
And finished w/ gas to spare
Pretty confident I can get it under 45
But under 40 will still need somework.
Going to come back down to Van for 1 or 2 more grind(s) on the 13th of June before seek the peak on the 15th.

What do you guys do to shave your time? Do you just keep going?
I got 1:32 last week and was able to get 1:15 this week. These are the first two times I've gone lol. I want to hit around 1 hour. Is there anything I should add to my gym routine? I was thinking of doing a lot more stair master for my cardio instead of running.

No man, the others on this thread are beast. I just wanna push to get fit. Lol
For me, no stopping. Slower pace if I'm tired but no stopping. I found that getting on my toes too do the shallower steps saves my quads so I can go hard for the latter bit.
45 still seems so far away.. lol

As an avid ex-GGer my best advice to people who want to get faster is repetition and biking.
I went up last week, but I don't think I'll be buying a pass this year. Pulled a 43:21 (pb is just under 39:00) and that makes me happy considering I haven't done the grind in over a year now. I just stick to recreational biking nowadays and I commute on a bike as often as possible. I'll go again at the end of the season to see if my times improved.

Dton, you are a MONSTER. That is INSANE.
52-55 minutes.
Fairly certain when my slight injury heals, I can do it in under 50.
I do squats but that's about it. Still with love handles and at 170-173lbs. 90% of it is mental imo, I breathe so hard, people look at me like I'm going to croak - it's about pacing yourself and driving through with your feet, use hips, and chest up.

Haha, sub 35 is actually what I think is really quick. But LOL I breathe hard as well so you're not alone. TBH I only started actually working out my legs over the last year. I've been doing the GG for over 5 years now and I always had skinny ass legs (people used to call me out on that), but I wouldn't care when I'm flying by most guys on the grind. Now I do squats regularly, but I wouldn't say that I find that it made the GG any easier, just my $0.02.
I say this every year to people who want to get better, cycling does wonders. Fastest guys up the GG are always the pro/semi-pro cyclists, and it's not a coincidence.

Thanks for the tips guys! Will be cycling for my cardio this week and will see if that helps. I'm also going to not stop when I take breaks which is what I've been doing. I would stop and catch a breather instead of continuing up.
Hopefully this Saturday I can hit around 1:00 - 1:10 don't think I would be able to shave off another 15 minutes :P hoping for 5 or 10

Did seek the peak this weekend
went for a casual walk w/ a co-worker from edmonton on Friday, as it his first time doing the grind.
he "casually" walked up in 40min, and I walked up in 55:09
Next day during the race, I did my leg (grouse grind) in 49:xx, the trail was a bit too crowded to really pass people. however, my friend from edmonton did it in 33:xx finishing 1st among all the team runners (out of 62).

When I go Grouse Grind, I'm only here for one purpose. "Time Attack"
I go with my friends and usually end up ditching them behind, and I let them know ahead of time.
Always peeves me when I ask some of my athletic buddies what time they got,
and they say something like, "2 hrs, cause I took some girl"
Take them on a real hike if you want scenery. Who the hell takes 2 hrs,
and it's only creating a log jam for people that actually are timing themselves.
