: What's the deal with guest lists in clubs?

So I'm just wondering about this?

Guy buys ticket from Promoter > Promoter sells you ticket for $15 ($20 if buy at door) > Promoter says he will put you and your friends on guest list > So you're like dope, I'm in the guest list > Guy goes to club, tells to the lady with a clipboard that you're on the guest list > Guy gets sent to the "guest list"/normal line and wait for an hour to get in while another VIP table guest list on the other line.

So being on the guest list usually don't mean jack shit? :rukidding:

it's not being on the list - it's who's list you are on.

Joe Promoter +25 -- 1hr line up

Mike Owner +5 -- VIP treatment

^ what he said. It's usually how important you are and what linda relationship you have with the promoter.

Also depends what club , not all guestlist means free cover as well.

And yes , depending who you know signifies how important you/they are.

^agreed. You can even get no covers for big DJ events if u know the right people. Probably get 2-3 no covers

If you get a table and depending on bottles you can usually get all NCs.

I went to Bar None with 6 girls and 4 guys including me. Bought tickets from a promoter for $10 each instead of $15. Promoter promised to put my name + 9 on the guest list under his name. Was told to be there before 11PM. Arrived at 1045PM, talked to the guest list staff and was told to stand in the normal line for an hour before getting in. =\

I don't know then, if you don't know the promter personally they probably won't hook you up.

Yeah, it doesn't really work like that. You really have to know the right people. If it makes you feel better, you didn't do anything wrong. Promoter buddy was just a "promoter."

Reference: I'm a club industry veteran myself (retired.) PM me if you have any questions.

^It's all good. Thanks for the offer. I don't club often here anyways. I was just wondering how the system works in Vancouver.

It's not what you know , it's who you know.

The most important and the only thing I learned in highschool.

Welcome to crappy nightlife Vancouver...where you wait in long lines to enter small cheaply decorated clubs.

If you dont personally know the slime ball promoter...you're not on the guestlist.
Check club website for glist and follow their instructions of getting guestlist.

Takes years of partying and greasing before you become known as a "regular" and start making friends and connections in the industry.

You learn to just go to the club around 10-10:30 and avoid the fucking line. I rather be inside and chill for an hour than be outside in the rain.

The only places i've been clubbing outside Vancouver are; Seattle, NYC, Toronto. And Vancouver is horse shit compared to all these cities.

Guest list means something everywhere else it seems, but not in Vancouver. Clubbing in Vancouver is generally horse shit.

i hope I dont get some sort of infraction.. but here goes:

Use a site like clubZone - Nightclubs, Nightlife, and Event Tickets (http://www.clubzone.com) and use their "get me on the guest-list" feature.
READ AND FOLLOW directions to the T. If you get screwed over you can call clubZone support and talk to them. You will not get your time or money back but I'm sure they will try to compensate you in other ways. Clubzone guest-lists are sent directly to the person with the clipboard. IF the notes say "no cover , no line before 1130" and you are made to stand in line at 10:45 - note the persons name who made you stay in line and bitch to clubzone. 9/10 times promoters will respect the fact you came from a service they paid for (Nightclub pays clubzone to send people to the club) and hold their end of the deal. If they don't they risk the bad rep and "rankings" on the site and future traffic

What it boils down to in Vancouver is one or a combination of the following (in no particular order)

- Who you know. Are you personal friends with the promoter? As in, the actual people who have an agreement with the club owners? I'm not talking about kids off the street who sell you a ticket for $10 instead of the $15 at the door. Knowing the right people can go a long way.

- How much money you and your friends are willing to spend. Wanna make it rain? Always coming with your entourage and prepared to drop hundreds, if not, thousands per night? Bottle service/VIP? The more you spend, the more privilege you earn. Venue owners and promoters typically base their success on the average revenue per patron. They don't need chumps to overcrowd the venue who are there to buy one drink and spend the entire night there. Clubs are a business!

- Your attitude. Hey, if you're going to act like a chump, you'll be treated like a chump. Simple as that. :)

if you are having troubles getting into clubs easily and quickly, you're either not with enough girls or you need to get a table or grease the doormen. if you choose the pricier option, you'd be spending about 800-1000 for 2 bottles with some money to spare on random drinks or at the bar. usually a group of guys will split the bill. if you're with a buddy or two and don't have an arrangement with a promoter, the best way to get in is to grease the doormen.. 20 bucks a head should do the trick.

guest list if overrated.. especially in vanoucver. if you show up and there is a fat line, just grease the bouncer $15-20. caprice on granville is especially known for holdin up the line even when theres no one inside. either go before 1030pm or after 12.
