: Best grocery store rotisserie chicken

So i've been eating a lot of rotisserie chicken lately.

I buy a whole chicken, peal off the skin and get 2 meals out of it. half chicken per meal

at $7-9/chicken its inexpensive and relatively healthy (when u dont eat the skin).

so now I am curious as to who has the best rotisserie chicken.

So far, between Save On foods and safeway, i'm going to have to go with Save Ons.
I have yet to try Super stores or Costcos.

I heard costcos is the best...not is it because of the seasoning? or the actual flesh of the bird, since I don't eat the skin, the seasoning does not affect the taste for me too much.

interested to hear you guy's thoughts on this.

Ooooooh, I'm a sucker for Save-On's rotisserie chicken. My parents often buy the one from Costco. I don't like it as much but hey, it's cheap.

Not a huge fan of Superstore's. I haven't had Safeway's in ages.

Price smart is the worst.
I'd say Costco > superstore > Safeway.

Costco is just the juiciest.. And I never notice any seasoning that stands out.

Safeways chicken looks and tastes like boiled chicken. Costco and save on are my 2 favorite with Costco getting the edge because it's really moist like it was brined

costco the best for sure. Every time I head down to the states I always pick up a couple on the way back. It's only 5 bucks down there too!

yeah, price smart is tricky. At times, I've really enjoyed their rosemary lemon chicken. But they often suck at cooking them or leave them to dry.

Safeway sucks.

Superstore sucks.

Costco get's my vote as well

Costco on Stillcreek got new roasting machines in the past month or so, I would say that the chickens are crispier. We buy them once every few weeks. Quick and easy dinner.

Costco cause they are the largest and cheapest ($7.49 ea). I believe the meat is brined, so the breast stays moist.

I've been getting the rotisserie at Wal-Mart.

Jerk seasoned Rotisserie is awesome.

do they add anything to the chicken, or is it just a plain chicken being cooked in it's juices?

Has anyone compared the Canada Costco to the US Costco yet? I've eaten the one from Bellingham a shit load of times and it's really good. Have yet to buy one here yet.

Handsdown Costco FTW

I tried both Can vs USA Costco

For Can
- Their chicken is brinned - it's what gives each piece of the meat juice and all portion is well seasoned.
- Chicken is about $7.99 I think?
- Pretty sure they use Canadian Birds

For USA (tried Bellingham)
- Their chicken is not brinned as well
- Chicken is about 4.99 or 5.99 I forget
- They use USA birds I think.
- By far the meatiest

For some reason I like the Canadian one's the most

It was juicy, even the breast meat. Overall not bad, must try the Costco one next time

Prefect for a quick dinner.

My inlaws buys one when they return from day trips to the US usually. And everytime, I get a little wary of what these birds are fed to make them this big. :heckno:

US chicken in general is often bigger/meatier as they are caged and not as active as Canadian chickens, which are all free-run.

Costco hands down.

I'll normally spend the little bit extra just to get legs and thighs.

It's brine.

Is it?

The ones I got a few times from Bham didn't taste like they were brinned.

Maybe I just like more saltier foods but the CAD version has more flavour then the US one. YMMV though.

every type of costcos chicken is better than anywhere else imo

the full size breasts with the seasoned rub on them are amazing and even the kirkland canned chicken is really good, and you get a shit load for the price if you dont mind eating canned chicken lol

Had a whole Chicken from Thrifty Foods (they are open 24hours) and it was actually pretty good.
Good seasoning, juicy, find it better than save on. $8 box well spent late at night.

Had a Costco Rotisserie chicken after a few years break from it and it has gone down-hill. Chicken has shrunk at least 30% and it's not brine anymore.

I think they are all pretty similar now (Costco, Superstore, Walmart). Never tried PriceSmart and Save On's. Safeway is bad.

Costco isn't as good as it used to be. Recently I've had Safeway, Costco and Save-On and Costco is still the best among those 3.

Urban Fare has like 4 flavours that I like but is expensive. Italian tastes amazing but quantity is small.

If you get a chicken from Costco down in the states, they are huge and look like they're mutant chickens. Although delicious. Can't beat costco value.

If we expand the region ... Blaine. US grocery store chicken >> Cdn, don't know why. Grocery fried chicken is really good as well. Both at truck stop and the one at Ferndale.

What about whole chickens uncooked.
Only down side to Costco is you have to eat it all within a few days.
I like to get whole then cut it up and make different meals out of it.
Where and what is the best price for a whole chicken?
Searched the websites no help. What is a good per pound price for whole?

Hondaracer

Costco occasionally has the two whole bird pack. Don't know the pricing but I'd probably prefer their birds at a little higher cost than other places

I've bought whole uncooked chickens at No Frills before when it was on sale.

It was something ridiculously cheap like $4 or $5. Pretty small compared to Costco but at that price I couldn't really complain.

But yeah, I'd usually grab it at Costco. If I'm looking for rotisserie, I'd probably pick em up at Costco or Whole Foods. Superstore if I'm too lazy.

I use chicken multiple ways:
uncooked from china town;
wings, drums stick, skin = deep fried
breast = shredded + bbq sauce for wraps
thighs i cook them up little slices for stir fry
cage of the body I use it as stock to boil.

As for rotisserie; I eat the dark meat and the rest, I use them as meat for wraps + nachos etc. I find them way too dry and tasteless that's why

for raw chicken; Winco in US has really good price for whole chicken.

Whole foods or nothing.

Totally kills Safeway, and Superstore. Would be willing to try Costco.
